Subject: Why would someone do this?

So last night at work (Wal-Mart) we were asked to go out into the parking lot and bring in the shopping carts gathered outside. As I begin walking out into the parking lot a lady parks her car almost in front of the store, in the fire lane. She hops out and starts walking in the door. I yell at her "Mam, you can't park there in the fire lane". "My husband is in the car". "That doesn't make a difference, you still need to move your car". She doesn't respond and goes inside the store. Well we go about getting the carts and about 10 minutes later she comes back out with a bunch of groceries. I approach her again and say "Excuse me, but it's a city ordinance that you can't park in the fire lane, you are blocking it." She continues to ignore me to which I reply "Maybe next time you shouldn't park there genius." This is where it gets interesting. Her husband gets out of the car. Her husband shall from here on be referred to as "Chucklehead"
Chucklehead - "You got a problem?"
Me - "Yes sir, I do. You can't park in a fire lane. It's a city ordinance and you are blocking it."
Chucklehead - "Where the hell do you want us to park? My wife was just going in for some quick items."
Me - "See that empty spot (maybe 15 feet from where we were)? You could have parked there."
Chucklehead - "That spot wasn't empty when we got here."
At this point Mr. Chucklehead was about two inches from my face screaming at the top of his lungs. I knew at this point something was going to happen so I leaned my head back to give myself a better view of his fists and also to brace myself incase he did the standard "tough guy push".
Me - (Making a gesture towards the parking lot) "There's a whole parking lot you could have parked in, you can't park here."
Chucklehead - (Little less dialogue here because the guy decides to head butt me in the face.) "You want something now? You want to do something now?"
Me - "No sir, you just did enough for me. I have this all on camera, I have your vehicle information as well as a physical description of you and your family. I'll be calling the police now and filing charges. The next people you'll be talking to are the cops."
Chucklehead - (At this point Mr. Chucklehead decides to jump back in the car and the promptly leave).
There was quite a bit more profanity on his part during this exchange, but it's unnecessary. I kept my cool the entire time even after he struck me, at which point I promptly started taking mental notes of his license plate number, physical appearance, etc... The funny thing is is it didn't even hurt when he hit me. Not to sound like a tough guy, but the first thing that ran through my head after he hit me was "Did... did this dude just head butt me? What the hell? I'm gonna be pissed if I have a swollen lip." He most likely did more damage to himself than to me. My lip isn't swollen and the way the struck me (with the side of his head as opposed to the nice rock hard plate in the front) means he most likely has a cut or at least a bruise for his efforts.
Well, I went inside and informed management of what transpired. I was asked if I would like to press charges to which I replied "Hell yes I would." So I called the police, filed a report, and got the report number for later when I can go get a hard copy. The officer said that since the guy wasn't a family member and because he didn't do any significant damage to me that they would be unable to make an arrest. However, I can get a hard copy of the report in a couple weeks and pursue it in civil court if I wish.
The question I pose is, Who the hell would do something like this? Just a random act of physical violence. And the kicker is he did this in front of his daughter. The kid must have been 11 or 12. There's cameras everywhere, several witnesses. What the hell was this guy thinking? Boy, if he thought his day was going rough yesterday it's going to get a hell of a lot worse.

Ha! Seriously, think about the average intelligence of a Wal-Mart customer.
Sorry you got head-butted, but when you realize that physical violence was the only argument the chucklehead had left, he's got serious problems.

Soooooooo he was in the car (assuming the wife left the keys), or possibly left it running, and the spot 15 feet away opened up, and he didn't just move the car?
Did he have a mullet and trucker hat by any chance?

If you really wanted to put the hammer down, you should have gone into the bathroom, and given yourself a bruise on the face. Anymore nowadays the police won't do a thing unless your heart's on the ground or you have an eyeball hanging out of the socket. Then you could have gotten an ambulance chaser and sued them in civil court. Anyone who has gall enough to to park the way they did is gonna react poorly to being called out on it, so unfortunately, very few people will stand up to this crap. So "Huzzah!" to Stormtrooper X!

I disagree and doubt it. People do this sort of thing all the time without drugs. Some people don't know better and some honestly think that it's alright if it's "a one time thing" or "just for a second". And some people do this because they think they're entitled to something, like they're better than everyone else. Some people are just sucky people without any help.

How do I say this politely. Most people are a waste of skin. Many of the old concepts of civility have fallen by the wayside, the glue that keep the society together has dried up to an extent.

Very likely here as well. I didn't think about it until after, but the guy could have very well pulled a gun on me. Not really something you think about when you're trying to get someone to move their vehicle I guess.
Deadshane1 wrote:Anyone who gets within 2" of my face gets an "accidental" knee to the groin.
I really didn't want to do anything like that. I figured once he was that close he was going to try something and it's better to let them throw the first blow, especially when there are witnesses.

No excuse but help me out here. Why were you making a deal about the firelane?
Now local linguisitic standards vary, but you shouldn't have insulted the wife. Now then I think about it, I would have gotten into your face very, very fast.

Just seems different that you would get into that over a firelane. the only firelane I can think of is right in front of the store and I see that often (not the getting out to shopping, but getting a pick up etc). Very strange situation. Except for your snag at the wife they did sound like a family of male genitalia.
Edit: How's the tooth???
Now I have to find out why there's a Canadian flag on icon on my info. I'm a Texan by God.

It wasn't a pickup. People drive in and park in
firelanes and explain that they left someone
in the car. However, security often handles the
warning.

Unfortunately we're a Neighborhood Market (essentially a grocery store version of Wal-Mart) and we don't have any form of security. As for parking in the fire lane it was right in front of the store. People see other people doing this and they start doing it too. You have to nip it in the bud as it were. My "genius" comment probably wasn't necessary, but the woman was being extremely rude and I wanted to give her a dose of her own medicine. And the tooth still hurts.

This just enforces my belief that there should be a license to breed. You have to have one for driving, practicing medicine/law, carry weapons. Why not for procreating? Now obviously you'd have to have some kind of standard that you'd have to hold everyone too, but details details.

No. They've come to an understanding. One part just applies a VAT tax and mandates maple syrup donuts from Tim Hortons (ironically owned by US-Wendys but man don't point that) in exchange for bullets and carne asada.

I could be mistaken but I DO believe that sort of proximity can be considered assault, even without contact. Perhaps dependant on what state you live in. If you were trying to back off and he was following retaining that distance, I'm pretty sure you'd have every right to destroydicate him.
I work as a Deputy Sheriff in a jail and if an inmate gets that close to me its open season. That case is a little different but that is a definate threatening move, all you'd have to say is that you were "Afraid for my (your ) safety" and you wouldnt get in any real trouble I'm sure.
People who initiate and suggest violence as the way to settle a dispute deserve whatever beatings they recieve IMHO.
