hello im just getting in to the fantasy game and trying to figure out what is better for my chaos horde minotaurs or trolls and any insight would be helpful. like I said just getting into the game and would like a large strong unit in my army to detour or beat the snot out of what ever they would come across. also was going to toss a hero in with them on a steed for the better LD.

The minotaurs are better here as they hit harder (with great weapons that is) and are _not_ stupid. The minos also have command options which helps them getting a bit of static combat resolution. The trolls have one good side which is regeneration that makes the relatively durable.

the trolls work amazingly if near the general. the regen, and sheer amount of attacks makes 1-2 units near the general an amazing force

Minotaurs- 3 in the unit, great weapons. No command.

If you take 1, take 2 units. They suck by themselves, you need at least 2 units.

Cheap, so can be used to bait and flee.
Brutal in combat.
Not stupid.

Point for point probably the best unit in chaos after slaneshi spawn.

In addition, Minotaurs can get Mark of Chaos Undivided for free if the general is undivided, and other marks for cost if your army is going that way. I think that puts them way over trolls.

I'm a "4 in the unit" type of guy myself, but that's probably a relatively trivial point.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

thank you for the advice. So if i use the trolls keep my gen or hero close to keep them on track so they can rip things apart. And if i go with the minotaurs with great weapons keep them as a scare tatic with bait and flee to get the oponent where i want them.

Yes but remember they are still brutal in combat and are great 'can openers' letting you get through heavily armoured troops and high toughness monsters.

BUT 3 of them make them cheap enough to use as a bait and flee unit and 3 will usually not be a priority target.

My units of 3 kroxigor are similar in ability and never get shot at.

the three man units are best as bait units, but for real staying power for things on 40mm bases you really do need four
