Hot dang mr Gibs, I love the designs on the plate, really adds a great dynamic to the armor. My only suggestion would be to damage up the figure right, image left shoulder pad a bit, JUST A BIT, to break up the solid black/dark grey surface

Another mini down for the tourny this weekend! I love this little fat whippy guy from the AoS starter set, and with a quick head and arm swap, he channels a bit of the Butcher from Diablo.
Head is from a Ghoul King I had kicking around with some Tzaangor horns.

Last model for my tournament tomorrow! Chanelling some Battletech/Mechwarrior for this Decimator. He's a little narrow compared to the official FW model, but it's still got the stats of a dread, so I think it's acceptable.

I painted up a test counts-as Noise Marine. I wanted something a little more "elite renegade riflemen" than "rock and roll freaks", so these guys all have longbarreled bolters for sonic blasters and bigass cannons for blastmasters. The legs are from the AoS khorne bloodbros because I needed something to boost their stature a bit to match the new plague and rubric marines. Also, I'm bringing topknots back into style!

And the rest:

Sweet baby cats Gibs! What a brilliant squad of hardbitten Chaos marines

(In a previous edition of 40k I always dotted on my Noise Marines (also with extended barrels and whatnot), who were the only gods damned professionals in the army, hitting, wounding and saving well above in-game probability, as the generic CSM tripped over themselves and died to terrain whenever possible. So I've a fondness for noisy boys taking care of business.)

Decimator is legit too, nailed the Mechwarrior look. Bit on the scrawny side of how I take my biomechnical hulking death machines, but certainly killy af.

Come on, they at LEAST need some built-in speakers, or freehand notes on their armour or SOMETHING.

Getting ready for LVO, and one of the events is the Knight Joust, which should be dumb drunken robot fun. This fella needed a new lick of orange paint (and some rocket pods).

For comparison, here's his old red livery:

Happy to see you press on with the repaints, that yellow khorne is so cool, especially against all that sludgy gore and dark metal Banging conversion too - guessing it's double rapid-fire battle cannons + rocket/missile pod? Delicious firepower, and check that ammo loader

More work on team Blood Orange! Converted up Khorne's good dog Karanak, and repainted a Dread and my Caco Daemon Prince.

On reflection, it bugs me that the cacodaemon is rotating differently than the others...

Looking fantastic as usual, Gibs. Loving the repaints, it really brings out the details on some of your older models. How did you manage the head conversion on the Karanak model?

Thanks!
Karanak is made from one of the wolves from the space-sled, and his face is the skull-hand from the Khorgorath monster (bottom jaw is from a ghorgon I think) and a bit of greenstuff to blend.

Your miniatures never fail to amaze, McGibs. The imagination behind not only the modelling choices but the paint schemes as well provide incredible results! Truly one of the most singular creators out there right now. Keep up the good work

Got some new Frankenstiens from my workbench!

Plagueburst Crawler conversion! The official model is pretty derpy looking to me, and like all 40k tanks, the stupid thing is backwards. So I flipped it around, replaced the GIGANTIC mortar with a more sensibly sized sawed-off Basilisk cannon and gunshield. Looks more like a Stug style assault gun now, which I think is cool.

Mega Kill Drone which I'll be using as a Heldrake. Again, official model is pretty darn goofy. Never liked the robot dragon and it's giant gaping butthole. Also I feel like the model really doesn't fit the rules in 8th edition. It's not a jetfighter anymore, its more like a flying dreadnought. This feller is a knight carapace with stormwolf engines, an idea I totally ripped off a way cooler conversion.

And a couple Nurgle Blightspawns I hacked together from the Blight Kings kit and random other stuff.

Excellent conversions. And here I am worrying about how to replace broken banners on marines.

I think the Nurgle tanks are shaped the way they are in order to call into mind a sort of hunched-over, hulking form. You can see it in the adorable little Blightcrawlers, how they have that strong frontal presence. It also acts to shield the main gun with the bulk of the vehicle- which is, in many ways, a very Nurgley thing to do.

Plus, the size of the gun... I mean, it's a Mortar. Not a howitzer or cannon.

Yours doesn't look bad, but it definitely loses a little of the "Trench-Foot Gas-attack WWI" feel that the modern Nurgle line seems to be going for.

I'm hoping you'll be doing some of your patented kitbash-scultping combo to restore it to a properly rotten state.

I should say that these Deathguard units will share the orange/black/blood paintjob of the rest of my army (Soupy soup!), so I don't mind losing some of the unified army aesthetic of them.
In some of the press copy, GW said that the PBCs are supposed to resemble the teardrop shape of a slug or maggot (makes sense!)
My intended use of the thing ingame (with the spewers) seems to be close support, moving forward to spray things and then providing some barrage fire with the mortar. The GW design looks too lumbering for that, considering how fast it actually is. I wanted something a little more like one of these:

More of an aggressive tank than a mortar carrier.

Speaking of the mortar, size has nothing to do with the classification (they range from as small as 50mm to crazy huge like 600mm). I just thought the GW model looks way too large for it's stats. It looks like a colossal siege mortar (the thing is bigger than a demolisher cannon!), but has the same stats as a battlecannon. So I cut the difference and made stubby howitzer (something more in line with a battlecannon, but able to fire indirectly)

Fair enough.

You know, you'd think that in ~500 years of fireams history, there'd have been some sort of consensus reached about terminology, wouldn't you?

I do gotta say, though, that I am sorely sad you couldn't fit that spikier siege ram on there again.

And the Hell Drone just seems to be begging for a face of some kind. Even just a couple more eyes, or a horn or something.

I'm no artillery expert, but I think the terminologies are based on their trajectory of fire and role on the battlefield.
Mortars: High angle, only indirect fire. Usually short barrels.
Howitzers: Can do indirect fire or direct fire, but throws low velocity shells. Usually shorter barrels and larger calibers than cannons.
Cannons: Direct fire, high velocity.
But then there's always going to be a zillion outliers that break the conventions :p

I might dig around to see if I have any more eye-shaped bits for the drone. I'll paint up the one big one to be a creepy daemon eye, like my dreads, which should hopefully give it a bit of personality.
