But wouldn't this "deal" be something Warlord is offering directly? If you guys expect Miniatures Market, etc... to get this same bundle discounted, i'll hold off, but otherwise I am all over preordering from Warlord themselves. :-p

Hmm AFAIK NWS Online has the Warlord deals as well. Mini Market is a more traditional retailer though so only has the normal trade items.

Happy to wait for the bikers and soldiers to hit MM. Maybe the metal dogs if they're good and offered separately. Doesn't sound like the male zombies are going to be available solo which is sad making. I do appreciate being able to get smaller packs of the soldiers/bikers, 30 of each type of survivor was probably too much. I just hope the individual pack costs don't skyrocket.

Warlord does a 50% off sprue sale about once every 6 to 9 months. Just wait for that magical day!

I'm not familiar with NWS Online, Doug. I assume they're a reputable dealer? Any insight as to when they'll have this bundle up?

Edit: Hot damn do I love the look of that Spec Ops kit. Multi-part with lots of options could make those my go-to models for a ton of different systems.

They seem pretty solid. The poses suffer a bit from coming out of a multi-option hard plastic kit, but the proportions on them look better than a lot of other modern soldier stuff I've seen. Certainly, they'd fit right in with the most of my humans (because those are also WGF/WLD).

Yeah theyre no Hasslefee sculpts to be sure but for being multipose plastic they look brilliant.

Yes they look ace.

Think with a different paintjob they might work well as resistance fighters for the Terminator game.

In fact, you could probably think of a dozen uses for them!

I'm not Doug, but I have bought from them 4-5 times in the last year or so. They do communicate (answer questions when you email) decently, will special order for you, and do deliver. They can take a week or two to get special order stuff from Warlord, and obviously when they offer a pre-order are at Warlord's mercy as to when it actually is released. As I mentioned above, their prices are very good, but they DO add shipping when you check out. Having said that, they have come in under the Warstore's prices and are better stocked for Warlord stuff for the most part, especially special offer and new stuff.

They told me they were waiting for Warlord to give them the pricing for the bundle, I would expect them to list it next week, I'm not sure when they'll list the individual packs/sets as even Warlord does not have it for pre-order yet.

Thanks man. I figure I have until March 11th to decide anyway, right?

Man, I would really love a bit of rules info. I don't need a beta set of rules, but I would love knowing in broad strokes what to expect. If there aren't campaign rules, for example, it will definitely take some oompf out of my enthusiasm.

Are there any good third-party zombie-survivor-campaign rule sets out there?

Try Skrimish Outbreak, it seems to be designed from the ground up to be a campaign based game, it's got a few example scenarios in the book and a character advancement system. It's suitable for a wide range of player numbers from solo right up to large groups, depending on how the different factions are controlled, be it a player controlling a whole survivor group or a group of players each controlling an individual survivor. There's also the choice of the zombies being controlled by the game or by a player.

Hm, the cooler heads in this thread have indeed made me realise that the boxes of WGF stuff I already have mean I don't have any need at all to go all in on this one. Looking forward to seeing the rules and prices for the moderns and bikers, though!

I'll definitely give Skirmish Outbreak a look. The preview pages looked fun. Are there any other good campaign system rules out there I might want to try to bolster the value out of Project Z? In particular i'd love something with having to manage resources between missions/games, maybe some base-building, etc?

Interesting.. Dark Sphere are now listing the retail prices for the Project Z boxes. RRP on the survivors is £15. Spec Ops aren't listed yet but it already seems like it is cheaper to pre-order the bits individually than to get the bundle.

So the survivors will be roughly the same price as two years ago for 1/3 the minis? Wow...That price hike's beyond Games Workshopian in scope.

£15 for 10 wgf models seems a bit steep. Wgf was never the best quality stuff but it made up for that by offering hard plastic kits that others didn't and a lot of models for a reasoble price.

If they are going to start charging £1.50 per model they are gonna find it harder to compete with better sculpted but less versatile metals on the same genre.

Well, at least the boxed sets come with the extra accessories sprue, small consolation, but at least there is more variety in each box.

Also, £30 for the main game isn't super-bad, it makes the potential prospect of the rules not available on their own a bit more palatable.

Man... right now I keep flip-flopping on throwing my hobby dollar at this or Deathwatch, and had assumed this one would outright kill DW on value.

As it stands, I almost feel like I would be smarter hunting down old WGF boxes of at least the survivors while I still can.

Yeah. I'm thinking I may get some soldiers, possibly some bikers, but only after they show up on Miniature Market. Male zombies... guess I'll miss. I'm not buying any more vixens just to get those. @NTN, definitely skip the old male zombies box. I got some despite recommendations I shouldn't and the advice was sound. I'll probably use them for corpses/counters/scenery decorating stuff, just a few will get to be upright zombies (you can get away with *some* short dudes, just not a whole batch of them).

DW:OK wasn't even on my radar until the last couple of days but now we'll see what the US retail is and if I can find a discounter because alien cultists are almost as cool as zombies

That is a pretty big price jump. Probably best bet for the time being would be the starter set and the old WGF packs that are still available with retailers or ebay.

Although, TBH £1.50 per isn't bad for those special forces type guys, still think that's pretty good value. Warlord are also usually pretty good for doing multi-buy discounts or promos if Bolt Action/GoTA are anything to go by.

I just found a box of the male and female survivors (30-count) for less than $24 shipped each... Its kind of hard not to jump at that when the price is about to triple.

I'll just grab the base game, and a box or two of spec-ops and bikers, as Miniatures Market, a hair later. Real shame the prices just grew so out of hand. I don't begrudge anyone a mark-up, but man... tripling your prices are just madness.

well from the sound of it WGF signed the distribution deal with Warlord as they were not making much (if anything) from their current setup,

and now there's warlords markup to consider too, so sadly I think it was inevitable

(keep your eyes open for the warlord naked sprue sales, which I hope these show up in)

It isn't really tripling the prices. The 30 figure boxes came with one accessory sprue. The new boxes have one for each ten figures.

It is an increase, but not a tripling.

It's also completely unnecessary. Maybe you could sort of use one sprue per 20 figures, but an accessory sprue per 10 is gonna be a lot of wasted bits. And yes, wasted, because a lot of them come on arms and aren't especially easy to remove to use with scenery for instance.

Glad I got my survivors when I did, I think, even if 30 of each is kinda overkill.

Honestly think I've talked myself out of the spec ops.

Looking at what I can get for metals of the same price and the spec ops ain't exactly winning. Unless the plastics are very versitile and allow a lot of options.

Specture miniatures, the assault group and emperess all have a compareable number of miniatures (in assault groups case more) for a similar price.

I think it probably made sense to increase the price. It seems likely the game isnt designed for anything more than *maybe* 15 survivors a side, if that. 30 is absolute overkill, even for most other games. Sou youd be unlikely to buy more than one, *maybe* two boxes, ever... annoying if you were planning on using them for something, but not really a huge problem, I think... well see.

Those prices kill my interest in the game and miniatures. The plastic spec ops look nice, but not that nice. Several of the poses are fairly awkward, further decreasing the value to me. It is so backwards to try and sell hips plastic miniatures in smaller numbers for higher prices.

Every time I look at Spectre it seems all the stuff I want is out of stock .. :/

And definitely think these look better than a lot of the Empress miniatures, from what we have seen.

Not many games call for 30 male and 30 female survivors. Not many modern games played in 28mm need dozens of troops, most are squad to platoon minus level.

It isn't like ancients or black powder era games where masses of troops are needed. Packaging the figures to better suit players of the types of games the figures are being bought for makes a lot of sense.

I wasn't making a comment about the number of miniatures per box, but the price per miniature. I think it makes perfect sense to package them in groups of ten. What doesn't make sense is pricing middling quality plastics in a price range where you are competing with metals. The practice of pricing plastics in the "sell less sprues for more money" range is that you are trying to make money off of keeping your already low production costs a tiny bit lower. You are trying to squeeze margins out of tiny costs instead of blowing your competition out of the water with market penetrating volume and price. Warlord probably saved $0.50-$1.00 by not including another sprue of bodies in the box. I was interested in picking up a couple boxes of the special forces to play Osprey's "Special Ops" game. Not anymore. I can buy miniatures I have a more pressing need for at those prices.
