The pets are hilariously charming - especially the scout getting his face licked by the otter? Merkeet? Whatever those things are. The Lanky mutant is particularly brilliant and I think I might copy it wholesale. That is a Kroot body and Genestealer arms - but where is the head from?

Thank you! That mutant is still one of my favorites, i need to make more. The head is actually a mantic one, i think from the lower abyssals set. It surprised me how well it fit!

So, owls. Eldar can have owls. You know who else can?

Space Marines, that's who.

Thanks! that's the goal, so i am glad that they are.

I just traded for some dark imperium death guard, and i like them but they are monopose so i have been trying to change things up. I gave this guy some wings.

And a sword! And a new bell.

Don't ask me why i started painting before putting a base down, i don't know.

Works.really well.with the wings. Also the stormcast heads go on the chaos dudes really well. Nice work.

Hey amazingturtles, liking the besties your Marines have. The otters and owls are particularly cool.

On the painting side have you tried using the citadel shades? I’ve been amazed at Agrax Earthshade in particular. On Marines it works well being lightly applied in the recesses only, but on rougher surfaces can be applied more liberally. Just then touching up with the base colour gives a good effect, or even easier a good dry brushing.

Keep up the cool conversions... I’m hoping for a marine riding a turtle like it’s a surf board... maybe a rocket powered surf turtle in place of a tzentch disc?

Hey turtles - good to see you've been busy!

I am really loving all the little vignettes with the owls/otters/animal friends - you've managed to capture a bunch of nice moments between them.

The chaos dudes with sigmarine helmets are great - exactly the sort of weird cult look you'd expect, and it actually surprises me we haven't seen more of that particular conversion around - and the kroot mutant is one of the nicest takes on a 40k mutant I've seen.

Looking forward to seeing more as always

I love that idea, i want to try to do more with turtles, but I've been struggling with hobby stuff lately. As evidenced by the lack of updates, I suppose.

I haven't used citadel shades at all! I should, I know.

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. I really like setting up those little scenes, I need to do more of them.

I've been trying to imagine just who these chaos marines are, i've always kind of preferred the idea of chaos undivided, but thematically i'm not sure if they fit that.

I don't have any new pets to add yet, but i've been testing out an eldar color scheme

Hopefully i will have more sooner!

Nice Wraith, the scheme looks like it’d work nicely with both Eldar and Dark Eldar (I refuse to use their new names!).

It’s not easy to find the time for hobbies. I’m currently trying to decide whether to bring my models away with me next week on a work trip it’s that much of a struggle!

Good luck finding a rocket powered surf turtle!

Thanks for checking it out! And stick around, the pet turtles still might happen! i just have to figure out how to get the space marine to look cool enough riding one.

Yeah, I'm sticking with old names too. i'm in my thirties, i'm allowed to start being crotchety about things like that right? I'm glad the colors work well! That orange is one of my favorites.

So here is something... that doesn't quite fit in with either of my blogs but i think it's pretty neat. I found this all for sale in a box together for just a couple of dollars:

Train buildings! And some trees. And six books of cutout buildings not pictured here. It was an exciting find! They're HO scale so... not quite the right size but i still think it will be a fun project. Maybe i can make some small sized aliens or mutants for them.

Wow, great score there. The scale may be off, but they should be fun to build. Also probably worth a fair amount on e-bay too if you change your mind. The owl looks very unimpressed about the shouting. I think the stormcast heads are creepy and work great for chaos personally.

And, no, HO scale, which is what these are, is half O Scale (Thus HO, 'Half O').

1:87 versus 1:48, where 1:48 is 25mm (1:43 is closer to the 'modern' 32mm scale).

Having now been a complete NERD, I am totally jealous, and I look forward to your diorama! There are many 1:87 figure sets out there, both painted and unpainted.

This might assist you: https://www.amazon.com/Busch-1010-Flying-Saucer-Building/dp/B0008EJ28O

And, given the era and nature of those buildings (more rural than city), you'll probably want: https://www.amazon.com/Woodland-Scenics-HO-Holstein-Cows/dp/B000BL6KIO/ref=sr_1_8?

Enjoy!

Thanks! I'm happy with the train stuff, though the trees are made of soft metal and from 1975... so lead? Probably lead.

Owls have no time for anyone's nonsense, not even a space marine.

Oh, those are really neat, thank you. tiny cows! That's interesting info about the scales, i've always found scale stuff a bit confusing so it's good to know. Fun fact, when i was little i went to a model train convention, i loved the things but never managed to actually have any of my own. So this is kind of a dream come true! A very silly dream. All the best dreams are.

Meanwhile!

Question for you amazingturtles. As you are the resident expert in tiny plastic animal models.

Have you come across one that would make a good squig model?

The turtle is with the grot, a renegade turtle.

I've been doing some digging and i think that at last i have found all of my imperial guard tanks! i think that these were mostly built and painted between 2000-2003! i ordered the basilisk from a little hole in the wall place and it took like two months to get delivered there! and the only way i could actually find out if it had come in was by walking several miles to the store and asking the grumpy owner. You might think "but cell phones existed back then!" and it's true, but i did not own one because i was poor and living on my own for the first time in my life. Good times!

I'm having some odd feelings about the whole 40k thing, and those feelings are the i mostly kind of hate it? The setting, i mean. I... i don't like grimdark. It's so enormously stupid.

I like silly, i like weird, i like strange with hints of darkness, but 40k is so stifling and in the end discouraging to me, creatively. I like my science fiction to be wild and free and filled with bizarre and wonderful things, and 40k is none of that. So why the heck do i have all of these tiny men?

This is what i am asking myself right now.

But anyhow here are the tanks

I feel ya. When I started 40K, it wasn't GRIMDARK. It was BRIGHT and SHINY and LOUD.

Not so much anymore.

I know that feeling Turtles. It was a bit nice at first but that's why i eventually went into the old Warhammer Fantasy not long after. It was one of my favorite fantasy stories of all time. Hopefully GW brings it back in some form like 30k for forgeworld but i probably shouldn't hold my breath.

I know what you mean, 40k is kinda the opposite of an uplifting story. At least they don’t come pre-painted so you can still go wild and wierd, upbeat is kinda hard to do with armour and guns though! What’s your plan with the guard tanks?
