OH-I Wanna get out of here

Can you field casual lists with what you have now? Or are they all going to be optimized and face beaty?

I can do casual, mainly by not using the war convo so I have to pay for everything. Instantly makes the AdMech casual. I can also add some SM or other imperial allies... that tones the list down too (and frankly makes it more fun).

However if everyone else is using their special formations... that leaves me on the short end of the stick.

I can make up two sets of lists, one set using the war convo, the other set without.

I don't have enough transport to run any of the Dark Angels formations, so any of my lists will be casual and fluffy lol

The interesting thing about the AdMech is that without the free points and extra rules you get with the War Convocation... they aren't really competitive. The army is just too elite (expensive) and too fragile (T3) to stand up to good competition. So there is a drastic difference in the way the exact same army (in units/figures) will perform depending on whether you're calling it a WarConvo or just what qualifies as a CAD.

This might sound dumb, but I don't really know how to use Formations to my advantage. Have never used one. I am bringing my laptop (with army builder), so we can do some list building and stuff if needed on site. Might be harder to print, but I'd wager there is a "professional area" at one of the hotels.

Oh yes, it's a major convention center so I'm 100% positive there's a business office for guests.

On lists I'd keep it simple personally, depends on if you have space/time to pack it all . I need to figure out a better way to transport big models, I had to put my Knight in my checked bag!

Looking forward to seeing you guys very soon

Great event, SL! The streamlined rules really helped keep things moving. The fights were epic!

Thanks CF... it was great to see you again. It was good to have you on our team.

Adepticon's Knight fight for us Wardens was a success. Overall I believe the rules worked well but there were plenty of rules I didn't anticipate. So with all the feedback, I'll start refining the rule set.
I believe everyone had a good time and out table was outstanding to fight on. Check out the ' Wardens Adepticon post event blog' for all the amazing pictures.

If you Wardens have suggestions please send them to me here or by PM.

Some quick changes I'll be reworking...

1. Some specific weapons need to be tweaked to fit the quick style of play. Namely the FW knights and the Gallant.
2. Simplify the ordnance rule so we need less multiple dice rolling.
3. Adjust the resurrection rules to allow shooting when re-entering.
4. Eliminate the additional units rules
5. Simplify the Knight exploding rule when killed.
6. Have specific Knight sheets for the variants with all the info on them.
7. Faster way to determine Ion shield facing ( counters ? )

If I do this next year I'll do this as an scheduled event. I also will reserve a time for us Wardens to play thus allowing those who were wronged or seeking revenge to do so.

Thanks for all your help, I'm glad you were able to attend.

Some updates ..

Went through the individual Knights, even the FW ones and created their own page with stats, Weapons and abilities. I believe I made them fit their overall theme while simplifying the rules.

Next will be the overall rule changes.

I'll not post them but will send them out to any ' Warder' that wants to take a crack at evaluating them.

I think that's a good plan. More simple is more gooder in this case. You can make knights like mine or the archon a bit more viable, and others like your's and Git's less the "obvious" choices too. Hit me up at some point and I'll look em over.

Hopefully they'll be the rare choice. I don't want to lose the theme of the FW knights, and I want them to be played. ( I bought it so it's nice to see combat)

It's just reality that some knights are knight Hunters. I've finished the 2nd edition rules. PM me your email address and I'll send them. They are in a Word document.

And yes I tweaked the Castigator a bit.

Sent those who wanted v 2 rules via email.

I was thinking since the Avenger Cannon is only effective on side and rear targets, I might up the S to 7 so that it's a viable option. To compensate I'd reduce the no of shot from 12 to 10. That way it's at least able to shoot at targets. It makes the Warden Variant use able but over powers the Crusader.

I've also up'd the Gallant to have 5 attacks though most knights have 3 ( FW have 4 ) this to make it viable to take.
Though not sure if d3 x 5 is a bit over kill; or 6 on the charge. With multi combat allowed, one gallant can take out multiple opponents in a single combat ( potentially 6 -18 HP dished out per round)

Thoughts?

We can use this blog to discuss attending Adepticon as well as those interested in doing the Knight Fight again.

Attending: Myself, Gits, 2xThings, ChaplainGunther, Joel, Ramos, Wyomingfox, Ritides, MasterA, Lorek and Janet.

Probably: Ice, moon, Yellowbeard, Cleansing Fire

Probably not: Whalemusic

Undecided: , Briancj,

I'll take a crack at the rules again using the 8th edition ruleset. If everyone who is Attending and those under probably we have a full game ( we can accommodate more )
Again I'll try to simplify the rules/ codex to make it play fast. I'm inclined to not exclude any Imperial ( or Chaos ) version this go around, but folks have requested it to be Imperium only.
Open to all other suggestions.

Good to know thanks. I think we should be ok. Git has one available ( out of his 4 ). I have 4 Available. Ice and Moon now have one each ( though were are waiting to see some paint ). Lorek and Janet talked about getting theirs together, Joel Has one ( I'm painting sometime this winter). Ramos was thinking about a FW one, Master A has his, Ritides has his. Cleansing Fire has his. This only leaves Gunther and WF. Unless I'm forgetting someone.

If Adeptus Titanicus comes out in time, we could use those rules (or a slightly simplified version). Maybe even those models!

Maybe, but right now we have a good selection of Knights and without knowing when it comes out and if the rules are any good. I'll proceed with revising the rules. Our folks have a feel for what can happen so I suspect there will be even more heroics.

I'm with SL on that one. Much as I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new AT, I don't think it's fair to expect everyone to go out and buy very expensive models when they already have models of their own (or can easily borrow models) to play. I think with the modifications that 8th brings plus lessons learned from last year... there's no need to jump to a new system at this point.

With such limited time I've been unable to post as often as I like..

With Adepticon 9 weekends out I need to get my New Nid Army ( thing 2 and I are playing in the 2 man tourney) as well as a higher pt list for pick up games. So Far I'm about 35% painted.

In addition I'm painting a IK Magaera for Gunther and just Finished a Castigator for Joel. This prompted me to revise the rules for the 2018 Knight Fight.

So In general...
Here is the current 2018 rules.

Any Imperial knights are eligible. Each Player must have only a single Knight No knight may include a relic initially.
TEAMS - Each Player draws a playing card. Top cards on one team. Low cards on the other. Additional Units must be on the board at the start of the game. No Reserves.
Since Knights very in Power levels, I’ll adjust according to make it as balanced as possible.
DEPLOYMENT - Each Player draws a Playing card. Top Card Deploys first and so on down the draw. Standard Deployment Zones.
If we go to 14 players - we will use the joker card as the 14th card.
ADDITIONAL RULES -

1. We will be using the 8th edition Stats/data sheets.
2. Each team picks a King. Each King will choose a Champion. No formation rules will be used.
3. Any knight destroyed during the last turn can come in on their next turn, but they must come in from their deployment zone.
4.Cards will be used to determine order of play. Each team will be dealt 1 playing card per person. The king of each team deals out the cards to their team. The Lowest card moves first and Charges first, highest card shoots first. Standard Turn order applies. Movement, shooting then Assault.
5. Once the king has been killed activation becomes simply "Randomly dealt cards" for the team, in order to represent a certain amount of disorder and confusion that would exist once the overall commander had been slain. Once slain the King come back as a normal player.
6. Being king allows you to …
• Allow any one team member a reroll once per turn (or themselves).
• Use a Relic… must pick at the time they are made King. Relics do not have a point cost, Only One relic can be chosen per team
• If Killed they return as a normal Knight and lose all benefits of being King. (Including relic)
7. Being Champion allows you to… [
• Reroll your charge range
• Adds +1 A and reroll 1’s to hit in the fight phase. Every Knight Killed by the champion (shooting or CC) adds +1 to the Knights Movement and Charge range.
• If Killed they return as a normal knight and lose all benefits of being Champion.
8. General rules…
• No one can move through Terrain. Ie… Buildings.
9. Cards will be revealed in top (king, Queen) down order.
10. In order to make sure this doesn't go down as a single melee...Shooting at units in Melee will be allowed – shots will be evenly split between all the units involved starting with the intended target.
11. Each combatant will be rewarded 1 pt for each successful wound they inflict up to the remaining wounds of their foe. Ie.. if a Knight only has 6 W left and you deal 8 you only get 6 pts. Killing the King rewards you 3x the points and the champion 2x the points when tallying the points wounded.

Attending: Myself, Gits, 2xThings, ChaplainGunther, Joel, Ramos, , Ritides, MasterA, Lorek and Janet, Ice, moon, Yellowbeard, Cleansing Fire
Undecided: , Briancj.

If no one drops out that'll be perfect.. 15 folks ( I'll drop out and just Mod, keeping things moving). I'm hoping for good pick up tables ( like last year ) as I don't have time to build sufficient terrain. We'll manage.

So Bring your Favorite Painted Imperial Knight or ping me back and let me know if you need me to bring you one. I hope you all are looking forward to trying this again.

Adeptcon 2018 Knight Fight. Once again the Warderns turned out in force and did battle. With a revamp of the rules for 8th edition hastily rewritten we split teams and dealt the cards.

First up...all the Knights available ( Reaver for scale and because it's cool)

Knights Deployed. The big Knighs were split up so one side wasn't so overpowering

Move to engage.

Gits and I do what we are made for. We go after their King. Who is keeping us from going after Ramo's Porpherion(sp)

More to come tomorrow.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

Yeah, I'm not sure who had the idea to stick them on the knights but it made life so much easier. Does kind of ruin photos though.

I think my biggest suggestion would be to either use bigger terrain (from the AT game maybe?) or just establish that you can't see through or over it. Since 8th doesn't measure from the guns, it was a new problem we didn't have last year.
