Progress... whoda thunk it.

Mojo is creeping back in after mid-month doldrums. The schemes didn't 1uite work as I had envisaged and a week of holiday away followed by family illness just combined to kill enthusiasm. Thankfully I have the spectre of the painting comp to push me onward. So some progress to the point that I'm actually getting happy with the results. Funny how a bit of highlighting and a couple of washes can make you so much happier with a scheme

Anyway. Some pics.

Grungy base

Going to try and hit the blue bits with my new harder and Steinbeck airbrush for a trial of spray based OSL.

This green turned out a bit shiny, but its growing on.me.

Just seen that the barrel needs touched up a bit, but otherwise I'm happy.

And the first 4 Vortices are done and final pics posted for the painting comp for Feb.

Tried out some OSL using my new airbrush, to mixed success. I'll keep trying I think it just about worked on the heavy's face but I couldn't quite get a decent gradient on the other bits.

They haven't come out quite as I had intended, so there is that lingering sense of disapointment that ny skills cant replicate my inagibation. However i do think they are passable at least and fit to face down Graphite's Press Gang. Moving back to BSF for a bit, so ill have time to ponder schemes for the next few guys. Something virulent in orange I'm thinking

W00t. So I managed to get a cheap second hand land speeder storm.

Lookit!

And we those legs? Why yes they are

I thought my container hauled needed a leggy escort friend

Land speeder truck conversion is looking really good. I will be watching to see how it turns out.

Thanks Rids.

Just finished putting it all together. The legs are still loose, but I'll fiddle around a bit more for posing before gluing them in place.

The HB moves and can be removed

Being modelled by my beautiful assistant Vortices. I deliberately connected the legs quite far back as I reckon counterbalancing a couple of pilots is easier than whatever heavy-ish load they might want on the rear platform.

I think they probably get through quite a few of those front sensor units

And escorting my cargo hauler

I've got enough legs for one more of these things. Just waiting for my super cheap Conquest land speeders to arrive for one more little leggy friend, in a light scout format rather than load hauling

Thinking that the legs will be more centralised beneath the pilot in the last one to keep the pilot and gunner more steady in the centre of movement. I think the cargo versions might not give the smoothest of rides

Love that Landspeeder mod! It's a great prop, but it feels like it needs some game stats... I'd drive that thing into battle in a pinch. Very much looking forward to paint... what's that yellow you're using?

Thanks guys. Always nice to see people interested in my footling.

@Mellon - go for it. The land speeder model is so versatile. I also made a recon buggy thingy put of the back end of one and a falcon turret

@ Mcphail - a very small chimera perhaps it's been mentioned that Necromunda night get ash waste vehicle rules at some point, so I'll just keep it safe until thise days arrive

The yellow is either sunburst yellow or flash glitz yellow. I think the former one, but I 5hi k the latter is just the modern replacement anyway. Not quite the same but close enough. I used it for my other utility walker, Jekub

I might have a leg problem...

All of these vehicle conversions look great (cargo hauler, buggy, and Jekub). The fork lift attachment on the front of Jekub in particular looks very natural, like it is a real kit. What is it made from?

Also, the weathering looks good on that yellow paint job.

Ah-ha... only 2 years since any kind of Necromunda progress. Some counts-as cyber mastiffs, that will also see duty in Stargrave as well.

Cross posted from the monthly painting comp, the doggoes are done.

Going to come up with more names...

Starting with Athena

Moving past the cyberiest mastiff around

And then on to the Goodest boy ever to come out of Cadia

Not totally happy with the texturing in the body armour on Cadian Boy, but if i try to do anything else to it I’ll
Probably wreck it, and I’m definitely happy enough with it

Based the dogs last night, so Cookie Hopper, Athena and Fluffy are ready for action.

I also developed this poor chap a bit further. Looks like it finished a task and has been rather neglected... I hope the rest of its cohort is not as poorly looked after!

I’ll probably end up sticking it to some scenery as a point of interest... or maybe as a data loot objective marker... hmmm. Pondering time.

Hah! nice one. I almost called it Ian, short for "Cadian dog", but my son insisted on Cookie Hopper, and who am I to fly in the face of offspring demands!

Also, he is clearly sitting

Thanks Viterbi. Need to get a seat for the poor chap, then to rough it all up. Probably use of the of the GW crates from the Munitorum Container kit for some combined data and physical loot action

Managed a bit of hobby progress last night. Playing about with contrast paints. not too taken with most of them, but the light blue is lovely. Not sure if these guys (and possibly gals) will be crew or random encounter duders. I have plenty more to play with though

I think I may have been applying them too thick, so I've ordered some contrast medium to water the darker colours down a bit more before applying.

Foir the grey bot, even after the contrast, it needed a nuln oil wash and I think I'll also hit it with a light drybrush as well. Not really meeting the promise of a single action to get decent results

Drybrushed the bot, and gave it a base. Happy with this one and into the cabinet it goes

Patrolling some long forgotten industrial station based on orders from decades ago that have never been recinded? Hunting a bounty that has gone to ground? Just looking for a nice auto wash? Who can say

Progress on the Van Saar Arkeotek code named Ice Queen.

My efforts at a blue tinted white armour are passable at best, but I must press on!

I have also done some airbrush shading of the spider tank. It was rather easier with the Kodiak shuttle as the surfaces were all
Rather larger, but I’m satisfied with the results for now. On to the detailing on that one. I got a darker grey for the joints and stuff, but I’m a bit worried it’s a bit too green. I’ll
Give it a shot anyways.

Inspired by fellow Dakkaite ced1106 I have printed a small scenery tile to act as a dressed backdrop for future pictures. Need to paint that now as well, of course...

It has the rather nifty feature of a modular central detail. I have just printed a simple inlay for now, but it can also take various types of consoles, servers, water treatment and generator gubbinz. Even objet de art or a teleported is available.

It didn’t print perfectly, but on its own the flaws shouldn’t be too noticeable.

I managed to push through the trough of dissatisfaction (largely thanks to the monthly painting comp) and with the help of a brand new brush tidied up Elsa (geddit? Ice Queen? Elsa? See what I did there? SEE WHAT I DID!)

Not really going to be winning any awards, but it looks not horrible at arms length which is all I can ask for

Still a few details to pick out and some metallics to add some highlights to, but definitely getting there.

Getting her tentacles and support servoskulls sorted next. Some simple Metallics and colour matching to Elsa’s scheme so shouldn’t take long. Then it’s on to the spider tank.

I tried getting a new mid grey, but instead managed to buy some weird green that Vallejo insists on calling Heavy Grey. Oh well. Ordered London’s grey instead so hopefully that will work better.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh yeah, I also printed a few more centrepieces for the photo hall.

(Not the polar bear though)
