A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

I failed - given my rate of progress, I'll need another month to just finish the rivets. This is a combination of small beads and some Zinge hex bolts - they look great, but so damn small and fiddly!

I did manage to install the well head though, plus add some new cabling, ready to be installed - idea is that this pumpjack is undergoing repairs by the gang who own it. Will be adding tools / toolboxes and thinking it may be undergoing a new paint job, so will have a dirty rusty side and a shabbily repainted side, with paint cans, rollers and trays...

Ultimately, I'll base this in a similar way to my 'old truck' terrain
Spoiler:

It will also fit in with the other terrain piece I started to build - a fuel refinery / storage tanks...

@Dwro1234: Looming deadlines help me focus too. Good luck finishing.

@Ruglud: I'm very sorry to hear you're not going to be able to make the deadline. I agree with you decision though, this beautiful piece deserves your continued skill and impressive attention to detail, rather than slapping the rest together just to finish on time. I'm glad that it sounds like you're planning to continue working on it after the comp, I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Anyone who started, but did not finish, did NOT fail.

You made something. You made progress. You'll make more things.

I'll use the racing term "DNF", or "Did Not Finish". This covers a wide variety of things, mechanical, life, illness, whatever.

By sharing your work, you've inspired others.

Total win.

well.... i didn´t finish my entry...first i forgot to make any qualifying WIP pics....second...i lost interest in my project...at first i was all on flame for it...then it turned out to be the next inflatable dartboard... (75% of my projects tend to fall in that category...)

and this is even more sad...as i had a perfect new theme for the next comp already....

cheers, vik

Absolutely with Brian on this, no such thing as failed, all participation including just a comment in this blog is win for all. Ideas shared, experience gained, these are all that matters. The fluffy bit on top is just for laughs. Not degrading any previous winners here, just saying.

Gods my head ain't working right!

Brian and Cam said it best, and I agree. Congratulations to everyone that started. I'm also DNF but my launching pad will see life once I start modeling for Necromunda again. I don't know what it will be yet but no doubt something cool. Chances of it staying 100% scratch build are zero, but the end result will be another awesome model in my collection.

Well done to all participants. I came up with an idea on Saturday evening - decided it probably wouldn't get finished

These comps are all about the trying, the sharing of ideas, the inspiration, and the camaraderie. Finishing is a bonus, winning is a cherry on top. I don't believe I ever finished more than a handful, and most of those weren't 'finished' in my head, but stuff was made and the ideas flowed, and that was the point.

Having said that, I do look forward to seeing the completed pieces, and feel for Syro in the judging chair.

That looks like a great set up for a speeder bike chase scenario.......

Even better if it continued curving out of sight into a giant circle.

@Dwro1234: No worries, I hope you do keep joining these competitions, they are a lot of fun, great learning experiences, and you can get really hooked on them.

@Cam: That's wonderful news! With all you injuries, I didn't think you'd still be able to work on your piece. I can't wait to open the PM and check out the final pics

@Briancj: well said!

@Vik: Hang on to the idea, you've won plenty of times in the past, so you'll probably get to use it soon enough. If not, you can share your idea with the winner.

@Skalk: You're definitely a great example of being a winner without having time to finish. You tried out so many new things and left your comfort zone constantly. You most have learned so many new things from your experiments, that's definitely winning.

@monkeytroll: Thanks, I really didn't realize how tough it would be to be a judge. Thanks for sharing your kind and very true words with all the contestants.

Mostly, on my phone.

Thanks to Syro_ for running a great contest that inspired so many one way or another. To echo the sentiments of others - the loer is about community, about friendship and shared challenges. You take from it whatever you want, and do as much or as little as you can.

Well done on all getting done. Good turn our.

Hope those that didn't quite finish get their's done in time so we can see where they were going.

Good work, Syro. One last push and you can relax for a while; not as easy as it looks is it?!

It definitely isn't! It would have been much easier if everyone didn't do such great pieces.

One quick question for past judges. Is it customary to wait to announce the winner until the public vote is finished, or can I announce it as soon as I determine the winner? I'm getting close, but it hasn't been easy.

Typically... there is no typically.
But, in the past (before the public voting thread trend) it was usually announced as soon as the winner was determined. However, with multiple judges, life and everything, it would often take about a week from end of contest to winner.
Voting used to be done via PM.
So compiling all the judging for the main prizes and the public vote took time.

With the public vote thread, I think it's usually all announced at the same time, to match the previous contests, and to wrap it all up together in one neat post.

But this is your contest, do with it what you will.

Indeed, atypical is the way of the League

I can't recall if you put a close-by date on the public poll....so that adds another layer of complexity...

Play it as you see fit, one announcement, multiple announcements, it matters not in the grand scheme of things. It is yours to do with as you will.

Thanks Dr H, thanks monkeytroll. I'll announce as soon as the winner is determined then. And thanks again monkeytroll, the poll closes in 5 days, but I kept forgetting to say the close by date in my posts, so I appreciate you bringing it up and reminding me.

Everyone the poll for your favorite League of Extraordinary Riveters terrain piece for the 25th competition closes in 5 days!

The winner of the 25th League of Extraordinary Riveters Terrain Contest is Camkierhi!

For second place there is a tie between Briancj and Tek Thornson!

Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who was a part of this contest. I was really impressed with all the effort each of you put into "For the War Effort", and was floored by all the new amazing pieces that will be gracing gaming tables around the world.

I can't stress enough how great all of these pieces were and how close everyone was in points on my judging rubric. Camkierhi, Briancj, and Tek Thornson all managed to tie with the exact same total highest score on the original judging rubric (although not all in the same categories), forcing me to actually add more criteria to narrow it down. Not a single finalist got more than 5 points below the original first place score. This was incredibly close. I hope anyone who hasn't gone over to show support for out seven amazing finalists will do so soon.

Cam, Brian, Tek: I have no idea when I'll have time for this, so it may be a year before you see it, but I'd be happy to offer to send each of you some kind of little prize if you would like one. It can being a goodie bag of stuff that might be good for making terrain, a piece of terrain made by me, something else made by me, or even a surprise prize. So let me know if you're interested.

Not where I should be

Fantastic work from everyone, I truly love these competition, so much inspirational ideas, so much beautiful work. I cannot express enough the joy I get watching you all develop as artists. And to see the return of some wonderful competitors has been a real treat this time around. The variety of the entries and the amazing quality of the work is testament to how friendly and brilliant a place Dakka Dakka is. This has been a brilliant contest, thank you so much Syro. Truly kept up the League tradition. And to all of you brilliant and wonderful people who look in, comment, and come up with ideas, and especially anyone who started making something.......Thank you so much for being here. Spread the word, next round coming soon.

I am yet again humbled by victory. I would not have chosen me, everyone has done so much brilliant work. I am truly honoured to be counted among you guys, let alone to gain victory.

A wonderful thank you to Syro again for a brilliant round.

Some really impressive builds in this round, shame some didn't have time to finish, at any rate it was a joy to watch them come together. The real prize is ofc that you built some terrain!
