Good job in the Ordinator, he looks cool. The brown jacket looks pretty good to me, but I’ve not played the game so can’t say whether it would look more in keeping. From the screen grab you posted I think the blue liner gets it close enough.

Great stuff getting the youngling involved, his wet blending is coming on nicely! I fear his trains may be in for a bumpy ride though!

Thanks guys!

Cheers for the thoughts on colour gobert, that's exactly the kind of feedback I need to reinforce my original idea of do nothing and call it a day

We found out today that one of the tracks was flipped over when we painted it - they have grooves on both sides but the connectors . I thought we would have to paint the other side but mrs tzurk grabbed one of the double male connectors and fixed it all like that. How many tzurks does it take to build a train track...?

Cheers NotOnline! He loved it too.

Anyway I've been posting a lot lately - and now I'm going to try and bang out 7 necrons in the next 24 hours. I've managed to build them tonight - after working with geo daemons and metal minis for so long I forgot what a pain in the ass it can be to assemble plastic models - and will get them ready to paint tomorrow.

This (and the other non-Eldar Kill Teams) are an attempt to get some of our gaming group who play games but not miniature wargames into the hobby. These guys are not going to be my best paintjobs or builds; they are designed to a) be finished quickly so that I don't get burned out and b) make life easier for the non-40k people who pick them up to play with them. The lists are all pretty basic, avoiding the "one of this, one of that" thing that I'm doing with my own Eldar, and hopefully making checking stat blocks a bit easier. I am also trying to make specialists and different unit/equipment types really clear. e.g. with these guys, specialists have two layers of cork, non-specialists have one, and there are only two unit types: Immortals (using the old warriors) and warriors (using the new warriors). There are a few simple conversions just to help differentiate the models and their specialisms, and I will use their paintjobs to help that process as well.

From left to right, starting with the back row: Leader, Zealot and Veteran (all immortals), Comms warrior, and then one non-spec immortal and two non-spec warriors.

The Zealot has one of his arms replaced with a drill weapon from the old metal Talos kit. His lost hand didn't go to waste; I used it on the Leader's base as a nod to the "thumbs up" scene from Terminator 2. My "3 necron warriors" from ebay only came with 2 heads so I used a backwards vanguard one and some extra admech bits to make a Comms guy - hopefully the antennae get the point across. It also came without rods for the guns so kebab sticks got cut to size. The Veteran has a little spotlight on his shoulder and will also be painted up a lot rustier/oiler than the others - to show that he has seen a lot more combat than the others.

I am also thinking I will split the immortal guns two blue and two green so that it's possible to call "blue is tesla and green is gauss" or to just ignore the colours and run all four as the same gun.

Here's the leader with his thumbs up base.

I am thinking really quick and dirty paintjobs here - drybrushed silver bodies, pick out some details on the eyes/guns, drybrushed white rocks and just paint on the lava. Then a bit of extra rust and oil on the Veteran and maybe some gold pieces on the Leader to help him stand out a bit more too.

Let's do it

Plenty of action on here at the moment. The Necrons make for good quick minis, the plan sounds straightforward enough and should give good results. The Terminator 2 reference sounds great too

Thanks for the interest guys!

A quick post to say that I made it, even though work went back today. And I found out that work went back today when I got a call from the boss at 10:34am (while I was at Bunnings with tzurk jr) - asking why I wasn't at work...

I had a change of heart about the lava bases and made them toxic green instead but other than that they pretty much followed the pattern I had in mind before starting, including some weak first attempts at OSL.

They aren't the best photos but the guest bath is about as good as I can get indoors late at night.

The leader w his weeny gun (green for gauss, teal for tesla!)

The Zealot (not happy w blood splatter - it looks a tiny bit less brown in real life, but oh well)

The Veteran - rustbucket. I think the OSL on his little shoulder spotlight came out much nicer than most of the rest.

This lil comms guy is my favourite. I even got to thinking it might be fun to do up an army like this...haha! He reminds me a bit of the droid that Jar Jar Binks boops in Watto's shop.

The grunts

the whole gang

SO, that was quick and fun. What next?

I have some already painted Eschers that would just need a few touch ups/changes to get them ready for KT, so they may be next - after i wrap my head around the half day I missed this morning

Thanks for looking and happy painting all.

I feel like my first comment on your thread hasn’t done you justice, so here I am again.

I find your productivity over 15 months truly formidable, there is fantastic stuff here! Some highlights for me:

Ork kitbashes are excellent, as is the terrain
Your painted Gorgons and co look glorious
A Krieger army in 3 days?? FML
The kitbashed dreads have some delightful use of parts
I love your use of old school Eldar and Necrons

What is your profession, is it linked to your painting style and output? Love your style anyway mate, kudos!

Thanks everyone! It was a bit of fun to do something out of the norm. And there's more on the way, help I'm stuck making things

@turtles, I had the same thought I was making the small conversions - I was thinking of them as little Wall-Es when in the fluff they are more like ...terminators. Oh well 8-) beep boop beep

@Ragsta, wow! Really appreciate your kind words mate - bit sheepish now! Glad you liked the minis though - that is a big part of why I post here after all.

I did not know I had a style - but my mantra is "try to make things look good with minimum time and effort involved"

I am a high school teacher so I have a fair amount of time off each year which is usually when the productivity waves come in between periods of radio silence. I'm not visual art trained but am teaching two lines of it this year so I guess we will see if any of the skills transfer across

Anyway, I started another little project before work this morning - touching up those Eschers. They had already been painted when I picked them up second-hand, mostly basecoats with a bit of drybrushing, but I did really like the colours used so set about trying to keep as much of the original paint as I could.

I changed the hair colours to denote team status (leader = blue, specialists = orange, non-spec = green), varied the skin tones a bit and then it was pretty much just some minor washing and highlighting to get the team to a point where I am happy with them. There's a lot more I'd do to them if I had time but given the 24 hour limit...welp, they are done!

These guys will count as Harlequins, with 3 pairs of players with identical load outs to try and make life easier.

Here's the before pic:

And after, all together

Fusion pistol/caress players (right one is Zealot - added some spikes to her giant fisty flamey thing and more bloooooood)

Neuro disruptor/harlequin's kiss players (leader on right)

Shuriken pistol/harlequin's embrace players (medic on left with first aid pack, scout on right - couldn't think of anything to convert her with so just chose the most dynamically "running" model)

And a side-by-side of before and after makeover!

tzurk jr II is due any day now so I am hesitant to start another project...but I have a tyranid kill team already built and ready for paint, and ideas for a zebra scheme inspired Dakka's own FeistyRips' fighting tigers and Fifty's crazy quartered animal marines...

We will see!

Anyway, thanks for looking & happy painting everyone 8-)

Thanks everyone!

I did manage to sneak in a bit more work over the weekend - finishing off the tyranids team as well as a 3rd ed Dark Eldar one. This was good as I had just packed all the painting things away on Saturday night and mrs tzurk went into labour first thing Sunday morning. We welcomed tzurk jr II to the world at 18:39 on Sunday! So that is likely the last painting I will do for quite a while...

Unlike the necrons, doing up the nids definitely did not make me want to start an army of them - they are so fiddly!

They were a very simple paintjob to combat the trickiness of getting in and around chitin - skrag brown flesh shaded with agrax (no highlight - would have looked much better but was pushed for time) - and Caliban green shells highlighted with a mix of caliban green and auriel yellow then Reaper's beautiful Moth Green which has made an appearance in all of the kill teams so far in one way or another!

Two gants were painted with purple guns to easily distinguish the devourers, and the specialist genestealers were colour coded - scout is scarlet, combat is cobalt, veteran is violet. The leader is the one with the full green carapace and non-spec stealers have brown backs.

Their bases are stirland mud highlighted with ushabti bone and they looked a bit plain so i broke up some kebab sticks and glued them on for some alien cacti...or something.

I did try out a few different monochromatic zebra/tiger stripe patterns but couldn't settle on one so just went with this.

The DE were done super quick and in the style of 3rd ed starter box art, which was my first ever Warhammer 40k set! These guys were painted super thick and super glued to the bijesus when I picked them up second hand so I haven't done much in the way of modelling work. The leader is the warrior saying "get over here", the heavy is a sniper, and the two blood-spattered Incubi (the blood spatter here is even worse than the necrons but again - time pressure!) are the other specialists. for added alliterative appeal we have a crouching combat Klaivex and a Ztanding Zealot.

I almost missed out on adding Moth Green to them until I decided to double down and try recreate a bit of the goblin green base of yore. They aren't the best painted bunch but they have a nice old school vibe to them and I'm happy overall.

inspo:

That's probably all from me for a while! I might try and take some better photos of the kill teams if I get a moment to set up outside but other than that things will be quiet on the painting front for foreseeable future. Will still try and check in every now and then to read some plogs and leave comments. Thanks for all the interest over the last month or two, it has contributed a lot to the output!

Happy painting everyone 8-)

Congrats mate! Number 2 is easier in many ways, but harder in others, a lack of time being the main difference! Still, you made good progress ahead of their arrival, so you can rest on your laurels for a bit.

The Nids look great, the green works really well on them. The Dark Eldar are smart too, but their not minis that inspire me. The blood splatter looks a bit OSL to my eye, maybe some in the crevises would help get away from that? Great work all round on this project, and putting the rest of us to shame on the 2021 model count

Thanks everyone, for your kind words both about the minis and the new bub!

It will definitely be an adjustment but without wanting to jinx anything we are off to a really lovely start. Mum and bub are both happy and healthy. Tzurk jr is the model big brother - calm and patient and loving - and mrs tzurk is and has always been an absolute superwoman.

I've got four weeks off work (classes were supposed to start yesterday after Christmas break, so discounting the two and a half pupil free days I'm ending up with essentially a 10 week holiday.) My parents are making the trip up this weekend too to lend a hand, and my sister who lives in the same city as us has two weeks annual leave coming up and wants to be involved as well. We have seen mrs tzurk's mum every day too which has been great. We feel very blessed and lucky and loved and are really looking forward to this next big adventure. I am writing this as tzurk jr plays with his Thomas trains and tzurk jr II sleeps on my chest and it feels very, very good

It has been a whirlwind few days but in that time I did manage to find space to touch up the Incubi. Thanks for your advice there gobert, I think you nailed what was so off about them. While tzurk jr painted some dinosaurs he'd been gifted by some of our friends, I got to poke about and make a few changes. I filled in a few of the crevices with red and also painted back in a bit of the dark grey to help sell the splatter. I still don't love it but I think it's definitely better and will pass for tabletop!

Nothing else has been touched up yet but I did take some photos in better lighting while both boys and mum were napping earlier today.

Kill Team Dark Eldar

Kill Team Tyranids (I found these guys really hard to take good photos of - couldn't get the right angles to show off skin/base/carapace all at once)

Nids v Escherquins

Kill Team Escherquins

Kill Team Necrons

Kill Team Krieg (old minis, but I didn't want them to feel left out!)

And tzurk jr's dinos! I really admired his bravery in painting straight over his old job on the "brachiosaurus" skeleton.

This was a really fun little side project. I still have the parts for a Custodes KT, which I think would be a fun option to give new players (and easy to pilot - you only have one stat block!), but I'm happy to put it on the backburner for a while.

Thanks for looking everyone, and happy painting 8-)
