Cheers youwashock, it is pretty decent and something I’ll try again

Thanks, those possessed were a good little project too
Olthannon wrote:Wow that's bloody marvellous! Really nice work on that mini. Love the halberd blade, that's a awesome idea for a power weapon.

Thanks Olthannon, though the lightning idea was borrowed from the GW box art
youwashock wrote:Conceptually, I think you are good. The upper body is looking right, but I think you are correct in revisiting the legs. A different pair might sell it a little more.

Yeah I’ll see how it looks with different legs and post back. Cheers
Olthannon wrote:Definitely a cool pose, I'd maybe tilt the bolter and arm further down so it looks more at rest/ clearly not in use. Love the concept, some dynamism in otherwise static heavy looking minis should look great.

Thanks, I’ve tried for dynamism with most of my Terminators as the Space Marine Heroes ones were the seed for my first company. I don’t think I’ve managed that level but this one might get close. I’ll see about lowering the Bolter arm, as I think the pose is a little off still.

Switching from building to painting I made some progress on the first terminator squad last night, though it was only slapping on metallics. All of the mechanical gubbins and most of the skulls got a Boltgun/Leadbelcher mix, then the trim got gold in the form of Retributor Armour.

Clearly I was very messy throwing these paints down so there will be plenty of tidying up to do with both black and purple. I’m thinking purple helmets ( ) with gold stripe like my Sternguard/Company Veterans had. It worked on them and similar with the crimson fist terminators I did ages ago

Thanks for looking

So, Purple Helmets it is! Finished tidying up the black armour (the new Vallejo Game Colour Black is really matte, and lovely smooth coverage) though I now have some silver and gold that needs work! then it was on with blocking in the purple bits: shoulder pads and helmets

I’ve also been faffing around with my printer as I’m only a couple of shoulder pads away from 5 squads of Terminators. Having updated the slicer and the drivers it seems to have fixed the shifting layer problem and I think I can print a decent pad now. I’ve also created an icon template to see if it can handle them. Test prints look decent, but need to get some paint on them for the real proof

Thanks for looking!

youwashock wrote:Oh, yeah, those guys look cool. That assault cannon model is so good.

Yeah, the Space Marine Heroes minis are a step above i think and the assault cannon lad is probably my favourite of this batch too
Olthannon wrote:Shlurple the purple! Looking excellent!

theCrowe wrote:Your Panthernators are already looking excellent. Looking forward to seeing you crisp them up like roasties in the oven.

Panthernators has a good ring to it. Sadly the oven was set a bit low thanks to getting this bad cold that’s doing the rounds to the roast plastic will take while

Saying that, I have made some solid progress on Terminators. The first squad got their gold neatened up after the purple was done. Then they got a wash of Nuln oil and I’ve got the Boltgun metal underway on the first couple of them.

I’ve also been plodding my way through fixing up the other Terminators I have… which is seemingly approaching a Demi 1st company! After the first squad I have a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield squad made mostly of SMH guys

There’s also a Lightning Claw squad with a couple more SMH chaps

The last SMH guy is the Cyclone Missile Launcher in the second regular squad

I’ve also got a regular squad with an ex-Chaos Heavy Flamer (thanks Ragsta!) these guys all have chain fists, 2 of which were converted. The chap I was asking posing questions about is also here. I stuck with the running pose and made it more of a shoulder barge pose than originally planned. I think he looks cool.

I have another squads worth of regulars, but I’m short a few bits and pieces. So I ordered some Deathwing components from eBay that should be with me by now, but Royal Mail only deliver fortnightly of late for some reason (the new Warhammer Heroes was at the Bristol depot for 2 weeks and declared lost by RM before it randomly pitched up on a Sunday! ). I’m kinda regretting not ordering a Deathwing plasma cannon, but I might convert the Assaul Cannon for these guys in to one… I have about 6 regular ones left after all!

I also have another squad of Lightning Claw marines in bit and on sprue

So that’s 7 squads in total and I reckon I might be able to build an 8th with a few arms. Together with the Sternguard I did recently and the box of Vanguard marines that would be a full Demi 1st company… at this rate I might as well do a chapter right!?

The eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted the array of dreadnought weapons too. Well they’re for these 2:

The little guy only came with one foot, so I replaced it and the missing one with matching 3d printed versions. His missile launcher I think is from the Venerable kit, so might be a bit big for him. I reckon it’s close enough though.

Thanks for looking

It really is and it was quite a bit of accidental acquisitions the big horde of plastic I got had 4 squads worth of terminators and a totally unadvertised dreadnought!

Cheers Gwyn, I now realise that the pic I posted was from the front and its proportions are only off from the side . I’m happy enough as it looks cool either way!

Yeah, I’ll need a new display board too, good job the kids got rid of a book case recently!

Great job on them and the dreads.

Don’t tempt me! 🤣 *goes and checks eBay for old terminators*

Been plodding on with the Terminators, 2 of them have their metallics fully highlighted, and the others aren’t far behind.

I’ll start work on the purples including the purple highlights on the black next.

I then took a detour from Warhammer in preparation for Christmas. We were talking board games with the kids the other day and they hadn’t played Cluedo before (think I’ve only played it the once!) and Mrs Gobert said she loved it. Then when doing the supermarket shopping I spotted a version with miniatures, so they was a family present sorted, and a quick hobby project for me!

Similar to the Bill & Ted minis I did a quick job. Grey prime then zenithal white focussing on the front a bit more. Then it was a variety of Speed and Contrast paints. All were done in a single day, which is a first for me, especially to get a box done within 2 days of purchase!

The minis are a bit of mix, some have great details and designs and others are a bit muted. Here’s individual mug shots
Miss Scarlet

I particularly love her hair, and the dress turned out pretty nicely too.
Colonel Mustard

He took the contrast paints really well and has loads of character. He’s probably my favourite sculpt of the bunch
Chef White

Her box art is cool, but the mini didn’t turn out that great. I was a bit sloppy on the buttons and I didn’t hit her with enough white zenithal (now isn’t that ironic?).
Mayor Green

He’s just a bit bland and has a wierd face. It might’ve been better had I remembered his goatee
Solicitor Peacock

Another full model, but I like the colour on her blouse. Quite a bit of the blue ran on to bits it wasn’t meant to be, which is a shame.
Professor Plum

Seems a bit cool for a professor, and the sculpt is a bit minimal, but the sculpted texture on his jumper rescues him a bit.

They were fun little diversion and hopefully they’ll be fun to play with on Christmas Day.

That’ll probably be my posts done before Christmas itself, so I hope you all have a great Christmas and Santa brings you some hobby goodies!

Thanks for looking!

Merry Christmas mate!

Painting up the Cluedo set was a great idea and they've all come out really nicely - wouldn't have guessed they'd been done as quickly as that.

I've got a lot to catch up on, but the latest BSF minis are fantastic - the green really pops on the possessed, and the cloth and halberd on the Watch master are really well done.

Your minis are looking amazing even in super close up shots - which you're also taking really well lol - the photography is great in here and the way you light/backdrop really sets the minis off. Love when there's an in-game looking shot after all the white backgrounds.

I'm sure I've commented on them before but the BSF tiles are super clean and evocative with the OSL - well done mate.

Thanks for sharing!

Merry Christmas tzurk! Thanks for taking the time to go through the plog, it’s been a decent hobby year. You and a few others were the inspiration for the action shots, so it means a lot that you like the pics! I need to print off some more BSF stuff but as I’m unlikely to play maybe I’ll just save the stls, but they were fun so who knows!
Syro_ wrote:You've been accomplishing so much, I'm having trouble visualizing how big your forces for the Void Panthers are. How many models have you painted for your chapter at this point?

Thanks Syro, there are surprisingly few Void Panthers painted at the moment
25 Tactical Marines
10 Assault Marines with Jump Packs
3 Bikers (7 more in various stages of construction)
1 Land Speeder
5 Sternguard (DA Company) Veterans
1 Stormtalon Gunship
1 Chapter Master
1 Land Raider

But then I have the rest of a regular Company and a Demi 1st Company. Of which the WIP pile is;
5 Regular Terminators

On the primed pile I have:
5 Tactical Marines
1 Rhino
1 Command Squad
1 Captain in Power Armour
1 Captain in Terminator Armour
9 Devastator Marines
1 Librarian in Power Armour

In the built pile there are
9 Tactical Marines
5 Assault Marines with Jump Packs
1 Devastator Marine
10 Regular Terminators
5 Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield Assault Terminators
8 Lightning Claw Assault Terminators
1 Venerable Dreadnought
1 Regular Dreadnought
1 Razorback
1 Tech Marine
1 Stormraven Gunship
1 Stormhawk Interceptor

In the not started pile I have
21 Tactical Marines
5 Assault Marines with Jump Packs
10 Devastator Marines
4 Regular Terminators
7 Lightning Claw Assault Terminators

Phew! That turned in to a post of its own! But it was good to get it all written down. I don’t think I’ve forgotten anything. I’ll try to do a year summary when I get the chance. In the meantime here’s the instagram version

Yeah I was surprised when I counted up recently to compare the quantity with all of the dreadnoughts painted by ListenToMeWarriors (@celestiallion on insta)… it was a close run thing but the Panther just about had more. I’m happy at the projects to come and complete. Probably back to regular marines next.

Before my first proper post of the year, here’s my 2023 in review (apologies that it’s a bit late but I enjoy doing them!)

January
I started the year finishing off the mega Necron project

February
Wrapped up the Necrons

Bonus pic because it looks cool!

Then I moved on to some Assault Marines with Jump packs

March
Saw slow progress on the assault squad thanks to a dodgy right arm (still not feeling great but manageable) and I managed to finish them before the month was up

April
Started with a building splurge

(Sorry if they’re too small to see)
After which I re painted a Tiranoc Chariot

Which also happened to be the final mini in my High Elf Army, so here’s a gratuitous Army pic

That inspired me to get my Void Panthers display board finished

And I even squeezed in some Necrons to finish (or so I thought) that army

May
Got off to a bang with painting the inside of a Void Panther Land Raider

Quickly followed by the outside

Keeping on the Panthers kick I kit bashed some Dark Angels Company Veterans to make some Sternguard Veterans

June
Saw me do some Khorne lads on a 3d printed movement tray

And I did some building of colonial marines and Xenomorphs from Aliens: Another Glorious Day in the Corps

July
Finished off the Khorne lads

Then I got 5 marines done for a Void Panthers tactical squad done

And made a start on the Sternguard for the Panthers

August
Saw me splurgeon a massive pile of plastic to expand the Panthers from a Demi company to a full Company and it seems half of the first company

But I managed to finish the Sternguard

Finishing up the month with the Techmarine in a Stormtalon

September
Started with a bunch of Xenomorphs including the Queen

Then there was the Void Panthers Chapter Master and work starting on the outside of the Stormtalon

October
I finished off Chapter Master Inanis

Then the Stormtalon

Chaos crept in at the end of the month with a pair of Greater Possessed for Blackstone Fortress

November
I think the flouro paint on the Possessed Marines turned out ok

I also painted the Deathwatch Watchmaster from the Sons of Orar Chapter for Blackstone Fortress too

December
Was about Terminators mainly, but with trips and family visiting I didn’t manage to finish them

Partly because I speed painted the figures from Cluedo 2023

All in, a pretty good year I reckon. I’ll post later with the finished Terminators and my next projects too

Thanks for looking and supporting throughout 2023. Here’s to plenty more hobby in 2024!

Cheers, ask and ye shall receive

As trailed in my last post the Terminators are done! Though of course seeing the pics there are bits that I’ve missed (like the writing on their parchment). I have to admit that before the second edge highlighting went on the black I was questioning the scheme. Now they’re done though I’m glad I stuck it out… only another 30 to go!

Without further ado, here’s Terminator Squad Adrastus of the Void Panthers Chapter

As usual, here are the individual pics, starting with Brother-Sergeant Adrastus himself.

Spoiler:

He’s a bit of a kitbash, with the base, body, legs and head of Brother Aramus from the Space Marine Heroes Series 2 collection with Brother Phaello’s right arm and a standard Terminator Sergeants power sword. His base had a few bits filled in to avoid it matching too much. I think he looks pretty good (especially in the last action shot below!)

Next is Brother Astelan

Spoiler:

This guy is just a regular terminator although his stormbolter is from the Dark Angels firstborn upgrade sprue, with the dark angels bits removed

Here we have Brother Feurran

Spoiler:

Feurran is the first of the true Space Marine Heroes, with no modification from the standard. He’s a pretty cool model with a nice pose astride a broken imperial eagle! What more could to ask for in a mini!?

This chap is Brother Phaello

Spoiler:

Phaello is another Space Marine Hero, probably the most basic sculpt, but he has a cool base!

Finally here’s Brother Dyrael

Spoiler:

Finishing up the squad with another Space Marine Hero sculpt without changes. His servo skull is pretty cool as is his scope on his gun.

And I can’t finish some panthers without action pics

I love that last one!

So that’s the first completed project of 2024. I’m already working on 2 and 3, pics to follow

Thanks for looking!

Great recap, gobert - thanks for sharing. Lovely to see them all again - that Necron army is absolutely gorgeous, and the High Elves on their display board are juuuuust right.

You're really nailing the scheme on the Void Panthers too, picking out different combos of the black/gold/purple and lovely tertiary colours like the different shades of green.

Those termis are beaut too. Love the face stripes and the basing in particular and agree that that last action shot is awesome - White Dwarf worthy!

Thanks mate, there were quite a few highlights what with having 2 Armies completed (gonna be a while until the next completion I think!). White Dwarf worthy has to be highest praise on this forum right!? And yeah 30 more, here’s some pics now I’ve built them all (they still need shoulder pad icons though)

That last squad has some interesting builds. The chap on the far left is slightly reposed by bending his legs and he’s stepping down off a square slotta base . That plasma cannon isn’t the Deathwing version (would’ve been sensible to have bought one when I got a load of Deathwing bits to finish the rest of the squad ). Instead his right arm was originally carrying an assault cannon and was too strongly bonded to his torso, so I cut it off and got to cutting up a Devastator Plasma Cannon. He was also reposed quite a bit to be stepping up on to a platform.
(Pre leg glue)

He’s pretty cool and makes me want to repose a few more regular marines

My 3d Printer has also been busy printing up a kill team board. It’s a paid set of files called Harbinger of Damnation with a bunch of modular walls, doors, pillars and floors. There was lots to print so I used pretty low quality settings as I’m hoping to hide much of the lines with a heavy rust and stippled paint work. Here’s the stages I’ve done so far

As you can see I had some failed prints as the filament ran out. Thankfully I managed to measure the pieces well enough to print extensions and most fit together really well. After this pic I primed everything with some body shop primer that has a fairly rough finish in the hope of hiding the layer lines a bit before covering it as best I could with Colour Forge’s Hyrax Brown. I then got some super cheap acrylic paint from mr bezos and stippled the brown liberally hoping to hide a few more layer lines

It looks quite yellow in that shot but drys quite flat brown. Next I stipled on some red

Which dried much more subtle than this pic looks. Next will be some orange before I do a metallic dry brush all over. Then it’ll be picking out panels with a smaller stippling brush and finishing up with picking out some of the details.

Amongst all of that I’ve done some work on the Colonial Marines from Aliens: Another Glorious Day In The Corps (AGDITC). Basically I’ve tried to recreate the costumes used in the movies. They look quite different under normal lighting conditions than they do in the movie.

Compared to heroic scale they’re properly dainty, but still cool. Some of the details are hard to read, and the camo doesn’t make that any easier! They’re progressing pretty quick, mainly just the skin tones to go now

Thanks for looking
