I was just wondering what a good shade of brown would be for dipping, I want the end result to be kinda like bestial brown. It can be lighter/darker but still in the same general colour.
Thanks for any advice!

Usually people use the Antique Walnut stain from MinWax.

Its a dark brown.

Whoops , I was asking what a good basecoat would be, as in paint. Thanks for your input though.

I would probably go for a basecoat of Iyanden Darksun, really like those new foundation paints. That should give you a good medium brown color, I believe. But if you´re having doubts, do a test model or three , in different colors.

Always better to see it for yourself.

Yeah, pics would be awesome. I tried some of the antique walnut and wasnt that impressed. I will be trying the "tudor" (or thats what I think it is) later this week.

If you are going to dip, lighter = better. Snakebite leather should work fine.

Tanith-inspired yeah. looking at those pics has shown me loadsa faults I missed, will have to go back to them.

I used Wilkos Walnut and dipped the whole model (as apposed to just painting it on). I'm still new to this dipping malarky but its certainly useful.

When I painted a model for a competition I was recently in, I used high-def. digital pictures to spot check and pinpoint any flaws. It worked out rather well.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."
