A little while ago I got a commission to re-paint a wizards of the coast dragon, and re-sculpt the base extensively. I think it went rather well overall, but I almost gave it back without getting photos.

It was difficult to paint over Wizards' paints (but it is even harder to remove Wizards' paints from their minis). There are places where I had to make up for detail lost on the sweatshop paint job.

I'm afraid the pics don't do the mini justice this time. My lighting set up was out of commission the day we took these, so these are just whatever lights I had on hand. Still, I think they do some good.

As usual, I have posted more angles on my site.

What do you think?

The dragon looks cool, but the flames in front (although painted well) dont look real....more like big spikes at wierd angles. It seems to me like the dragon was big wo you decided to make the fire big which makes it look kinda goofy but thats just mho

I agree that the fire looks kind of cartoonish (not my normal style) but I've gone a bit cartoonish on all the Wizards minis I've repainted.

You know, they just don't have the kind of detail that lends itself well to a more realistic paintjob. They just don't pop on their own. So, yeah, the fire isn't very realistic (and a little goofy).

By the way, this is not the Colossal Red Dragon that you've probably seen on sale for eighty bucks. This is a much smaller "Huge" red dragon that you normally get in random packs (or on Ebay or something).
