.................................... Searching for Iscandar

Well my time has been very limited lately but I've got a few crazy ideas going well enough I figured I'd post some. Maybe help motivate myself. Guess we'll see.

Here's a pic of how most of my Shoota Boyz will look like. I've got a bunch of different weapons, but they'll be in this basic pose.

Here's two shots of my warbuggies. I am using the new Ork Trukks as my Trukks, of course, but I couldn't see myself buying 9 of 'em and modding 'em up when there was a much better option out there for 1/3 the price.

These do of course need detail work and priming, then a paint job. I figured it'd be easier to see them as is. I think I'm going to use a 'control' stick for the driver, I tried several wheels but didn't like how any turned out.

Not sure if I'm going to keep the big shoota concept as is, or add something. I kinda like akimbo rifles. Comments welcome of course.

Oh and what the vehicle actually was originally?

http://www.ninjaturtles.com/toys/2007/mini-mutants/sliders/mike.html

Costs less than 8$ each. All them neat little engines are gonna go someplace! Not sure in what army yet, but they're perfect for 40K scale. Two per package, easy to remove.

I like the work on the vehicle so far. Bit blurry though.

I'm proxying Lizards for Orks.

I hate the Ork figs. Same fat belly look for 15 years, fantasy and 40k. Blech.

I'll fix up some more pics later. The conversions pretty simple. Getting my camera to work properly, isn't. lol

Hopefully these are better pics. The conversions pretty simple really. By simple meaning time-consuming as hell.

Here's some pics of the vehicles.

The Trukks Lizzies aren't glued in, the're just in mockup. I'll probably 'seat' mount them like I did with the warbuggies.

While most Ork trukks seem to be very 'busy', to make mine mesh better with my cleaner warbuggies I've kept them minimal.

Here's another pic up close of the warbuggy driver.

Lizards with guns! Lizards in cars! Lizards in spaaaaace!

Entertaining project Stelek, I look forward to seeing paint pull things together a bit. Nice grab on the car, though I could have sworn it was a "Mummies Alive!" cruiser in another life (which isn't impossible given how toy companies crank the TV tie-in stuff out) ... :S

Well, not over awesomely sure on using Lizards for Orks... Seems a bit arbitrary knowing that you have massive scope for conversion with Orks, meaning that you can make them look *individual* as opposed to.. well... not really fitting in with the game.

Whatever floats your boat.

Well I've had 3 ork armies in the past 15 years.

I really don't feel the need to buy the same models again.

Besides, I love the lizard models and they're as close to green as I can get.

Gee, Lizards are cheap?

Hmmm I've already spent more per fig than I would using Orks.

But, I guess you knew that and just had to be negative.

Wow, I'm surprised. GBF putting in his lousy 2 cents.

I would actually like to see them 'Futurized' a bit more. Armor Plating, electronics and the like. Another thing that could tie the army together more is to come up with a basic weapon style.

I would go less 'We're Orks with Scales!' and more 'We're a Slann Army using Ork Rules!'. Just some thoughts ^_^!

And to GBF:

You're post added nothing to this conversation. And could be misconstrued as trolling for a (negative) response from Stelek. If you have nothing contructive to add to the thread, don't post.

Well actually I was thinking of making all the Lizards 'electric'.

Meaning I'd have wires running to their weapon, but I'm not sure from what. Some sort of backpack? The shield? A waist item?

So no matter what weapon they're using, it all ties together with the 'electric' theme.

Same thing with the weapons on the vehicles.

I'm trying to figure out how to make the Trukks and the Warbuggies tie in better, and I think once I figure out how I'm going to do the weapons that I'll be able to figure that out too.

I do envision it as a Old Ones army come back to fight, using the Ork rules, if that makes sense.

@ Grey Death

What I meant to say is that proxy armies are an excellent means for people with little positive cashflow to start new armies. I apologize if I came across as rude or negative.

Gee, let's see:

I bought a ton of weapon sprues from local players so I could have weapons at all. Sticks and clubs don't really evoke 40k guns, but YMMV. Cost me about 100$.

I bought 4 ork trukks. That's 120$.

I bought a bunch of lizard saurus and skinks. About 300$ worth.

All of this unassembled and unpainted. There's alot of conversion work needed. How much does that cost? If we equate my wage to number of hours put in, I've already 'lost' 600$.

Gee, I could just buy a Ork army today off of fee-bay for as much or less than this.

Yeah, little positive cashflow...right.

Since you can't make a positive contribution, can you slip the negative gear into neutral and idle in your garage a while?

Thanks! Btw love your sig, had 'em turned on for a while today. Gets me more exposure on the site, thanks man!

Hey Stelek I am just teasing you. I have L&tD army that had beastman and kroot (both heavily converted) for my mutants. If you paint your army very well it could be quite cool. And to be fair you are really playing a counts as, not a proxy army.

Good luck with it!

I do believe that the Orks however, were no constucts of the old ones though, and to me using there rules to represent Space Lizards would be weird at best.

Well, old ones create the eldar to fight the necrons.

In fantasy, they created the lizards to fight chaos.

So in 40k, that means some Eldar weapons. It also means a variety of other weapons, some high tech some not so high tech.

There will be squads equipped with Tau weapons and some basic bolters. I don't want 'Ork' weapons because while they are indeed a 'counts as' army they aren't Orks. It's not easy this project I've taken on, trying to make Lizards some kind of high-tech version of Orks, but there it is.

I can't imagine using another race to sub in for the orks but lizards, and...they're both green. Ish.

I agree with a previous poster, they need to be brought into 40K by the means of armor and not just an odd gun.

Right now, what this army looks like is you just had a bunch of old lizardmen lying around that you decided to stick guns on and call orks. I know it's not, but thats the first impression, and at tournies, thats all you get.

They definitely need to be more futuristic. You need to show that you put a lot of work into them so it doesn't look like you're being lazy. People are dumb.

For starters, drop the shields. No one uses shields in 40k for actual protection, they're always hand-held forcefield generators or something. These are blatantly just shields.

Another thing is that the army that comes to mind for a space lizard counts as army is eldar, not orks. You need to show that they're orks somehow. The vehicles will help, but right now, they just look incongruous.

This army need lots of work.

-Leo037

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." -Hermann Goering (high ranking Nazi)

Nice idea, Stelek.

I'm with grey_death- a good uniform weapon solution will go miles towards making your army work visually.

Have you tried cutting up the Saurus handweapons and converting them into something that looks like a gun? Reversing the maces so that the haft becomes a barrel, the head the body of the gun, and the grip just comes from gluing it to the lizard's fist should be a start. Try adding bitz from the weapon sprues you have (like the body of the shuricat minus the silly barrel, or the ammo cores from the same gun, the trumpet-barrel from the blunderbuss, etc.) until you find a good look.

As for the shields, I agree that you might do better dropping them to distance the figs from fantasy a little more. If you kept them, they would look better if you fit some techy bitz onto them. Maybe the tube-thingy from the old guardian sprues, or a central hub of circuitry or something?

One more idea might be to use crystal technology for them a lot. Cheap craft-store facted beads could be used as barrels, communications bitz, grav units on vehicles, all sorts of stuff. it would keep them a bit fantasy, a bit 40K.

I know your posted list includes lootas. What are you considering there?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!
