Hey all!

Why Ultramarines?
...Because some kid glued the Forge World shoulderpads to them before I bought 'em from him off Ebay, and damn if they wouldn't come off! It forced me to learn to love the SMurfs.

The Army Concept
Based off an army list found here, this is really a heavy weapons detachment. I imagine it being a drop-ship force, designed primarily to eliminate enemy base camps, break down entrenchments, and otherwise sow havoc. As such, I want them to have a gritty, mud-spattered 'veteran' look, with a minimum of yellow and plenty of mud.

Finished piece of Macragge terrain. I really like how the weathering turned out on this one.

The Captain.

I'd love any criticism/commentary you all have to offer. There are a lot of gorgeous armies showcased at this site, and I know I've got a ways to go before I win any Golden Demons. Anything you've got to say, I'd love to hear.

They look good. They actually look like they've been hitting the deck and fighting battles as opposed to just looking pretty (which is what ultra-marines excel at).

Very cool. You'll get some comments about them being "too weathered" I'm sure, but they do look like they've been fighting a hell of a campaign. Any chance we can get some more pics with the light ON the minis instead of behind? I think there's a lot of detail were' missing because of the shade.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I'm a n00b at mini photography - I'll try to take some for the next update that have more appropriate source lighting.

One of the things I like about the raised shoulder pads is that I don't have to paint the whole marine blue in order for it to be recognizable. And, if one takes my record of Wins and Losses with this force, they really have gotten their asses kicked!

I also dislike the idea of pretty marines. I've seen some clean paint jobs that floor me, don't get me wrong, but personally I feel like they should be in the thick of things.

Oddly, I'm not a big fan of Ultramarines either. These were modeled by someone else and sold to me at a very reasonable price, unpainted, so I learned to love the SMurf legion. Of course, the modeling job wasn't exactly spectacular, as I'm coming to discover from all the mould lines that keep popping up... But eh, for a first army, I don't think it's turning out poorly =)

(The Captain is the exception so far - him I built all on my own).
