I'm playing in a map based campaign this, and this week I have an important battle comming up with ogres. now, i'm pretty sure I can beat him, but I want to destroy him. if you massacre the army then that part of his army is scattered, and has to be recovered. the points limit is 1500 pts, and I was hoping for some advice as to how I can massacre this opponant. this will only be my second game against ogre kingdoms.

Even Spear Elf blocks beat the hell out of Ogres. Just take 3 Mages to dispel his magic, RBT's to shoot him, and then just normal crap. HE vs. Ogres is just such a bad matchup for Ogres. I have to work 3x as hard playing against HE with Ogres than I do against most other armies.

good, good. like I said, this will only be my 2nd game against ogre, and the first one was against a newb, so I suspected that as the reason i wiped him out. the niggest problem is he wil have 200 more points than me because he is fighting from a fortified position. I figure several units of sword masters ought to do the trick.

Actually, ogres are prety good against high elves.

the white lions who excell against all others lose to ogres 3 wounds
Sword masters strugle against even poitns of ogres for the same reason

Ranked units of spears and phenix guard are your best bet. Small units of sword masters to deal with his msu units of bulls.

Use bolt throwers to knock a guy or so from every unit you can. Dont try to eliminate them with fire, just put them in a position they cant beat you head on.
Then just advance.

Sword masters will massacre most ogre units (5 models front rank inc champ put out 11 attacks, 8 should hit, 6 should wound, 2 dead ogres)
But fear any shooting at sword masters.

Agree with others on RBTs.

5 naked dragon princes are only 150 points. Hold them back (you have a huge charge advantage) and either hit in flank or take out a MSU unit. You have enough armour to save most wounds...

2 tiranoc charriots are 170 points, dual charge, 2d6 st 5 hits 4 st 4 attacks and 4 st 3 attacks. ALWAYS dual charge against the ogres with them...

Otherwise spears can be brutal but remember fear can stuff you up.

ALso I'd go 3 mages, 2 dispel scrolls, 1 staff sorcery (+1 to dispel for +2 with HE bonus.) and the ring that shoots fury of khaine (for more shooty death kill) and silver wand
His magic phase is shut down.
I'd go high elf magic and pump out either fury of khaine (if got it) or curse arrow attraction for your RBTs and then Dispel magic last to stuff up his magic phase even more.

Oh and deploy 1 inch back from your deployment line so you are not charged turn 2.

If you get first go you get 3 turns magic, shooting and get to charge.... he he

Actually, HE being charged by ogres isn't so bad as long as you 1) control the charge and 2) get close enough to eliminate impact hits so you get your ASF. For example, a unit of ogres is advancing on your unit. They are faster and so will probably get the charge. Advance unit right in front of ogres but angled so that they charge in and, when you hold and ASF, allow you a flank charge on your next turn or have to reform and slowly move away, allowing you the charge next turn. Win win!

Also, eagles are hilarious for march blocking. Just keep them away from ogre shooting and gnoblars throwing stuff.

OK, so we finally got around to playing that game, and I would like to thank you guys for the help. I fielded 3 Lv.2 mages, 2 units of 10 sword masters a unit of spearmen, and a unit of 5 silverhelms, plus two reapeter bolt throwers. I killed every model of his on the table, and only lost about 7 sword masters and the unit of spearmen(they got the man eaters with bruiser, and tied them up for quite a while thanks to some amazing rolls). so, thanks for the advice.
