Well I've finally finished my Ogre army with the basing now done. Technically, I'm still waiting on my magnetic strips to show up so I can get these guys on little trays to move on, but just about everything I'm doing to the models is finished.

Butcher 1
Butcher 2
Gorger 1
Gorger 2
Ironguts
Leadbelchers
Tyrant 1
Tyrant 2
Yhetee's

Pretty much I think this is the best I've ever painted, which isn't saying much, since I kind of suck at painting, but I am happy with how these guys turned out and I learned a lot about painting from doing this army, starting it from the ground up in December.

It didn't go together as quickly as I thought it would, but then there were times when I actually enjoyed the painting work I was doing, though I think the fact that I only have 35 models in the entire army lineup helps with that a lot. I'm still scared of doing 40k Orks or even finishing my Dwarf army that has 100+ models to be painted, which just seems too insane to do.

Anyway I'd appreciate some feedback, thanks.

I like the way they came out, overall. I do think that the greys and blues are not the best colors to be accented by a brown or walnut dip, but they still came out alright. I have also dipped an army that has alot of greys in it and it just doesn't bring out the best of the dipping methods. Tans, greens and reds are usually the best colors for it.

Are you gonna dip the dwarfs? The dip will look good on the typical brass style designs and metals. However, if you do a typical blue and gold style scheme, the blue won't get the best effect. I painted a dwarf army for a friend that was mostly a more rustic feel. He wanted them with varying shades of browns and tans and then with iron and brass weapons. Those choices made the antique walnut dip look fantastic. Good luck with the dwarfs and I would like to follow the progress of that little project also.

I've been noticing that too, the best colors to dip with are the Greens & Reds. Which is why I'm sure that if/when I get to doing my 40k Ork army after 5th Ed comes out, I'll probably dip that.

For the Dwarfs, they'll probably go the traditional route or inking and highlighting. I like the army too much to dip it and I did a test model in my scheme (which involves much blue & gold), and it wasn't going to work for me.

I do appreciate the feedback though, thanks!

I totally saw these on the Stronghold this morning but didn't recognize the user name

They look good, particularly the line units, where the blue, red and brass came out very nicely. I can barely tell your gorgers and butchers are dipped, did you paint it on? And in general, did you thin your dip waay down?

I like the look though, nice work. I look forward to seeing them in person this Saturday

No, I actually had a problem with the "real" dip being too thick and not coming off well. I used a small can of dip to see which color and type I wanted to use for this, so I bought a big can of the stuff to dip the army in, since the Iron Guts and characters wouldn't fit into the small can.

The stuff was really hard to come off using the spinning drill or any method really.

So I repainted the Skin and just left the dip in the recesses and on certain other parts of the model where it looked good.

And FYI, the Yhetee's aren't dipped, those are a normal paint/ink/highlight job.

Hey Voodoo, was good to meet you at the Colonial this weekend. How'd the ogres fair for the rest of the tourny? Any outstanding tenderizer moments?

I saw your ranking over at the Colonial boards, something like 43rd? Not too shabby out of 100!

I finished well and made my goal of a winning record - I went 3-2-0.

And there wer two very nice Tenderizer moments, but the best was the matchup vs. the Oldblood on Carnosaur. Charge in, all attacks into the Carnosaur, wipe him out with a CR of 5 as a result, Oldblood now on foot hits me and does two wounds (got to love the +1T spell) and I save one with the Ward, the Oldblood then dies to outnumber and fear!

I was really happy with how it all went and there was only one game that I lost that I felt like I didn't have much of a chance and that was vs Nurgle DL where I didn't quite know exactly how bad Plague Riders were or their rules. OUCH.

I made a 26/30 for painting and I'm extremely happy with that, I think the army came together really well and the Colonial was the first time playing with the list after it was all painted and I was much more pleased with the army as I got to look at it as a whole on the table top. Hopefully next year you guys can come down and stay the weekend to play it out, one of the best things about the event was meeting people into the game.

Nice work on the dinosaur kill! And yep, those plague riders are insane :S Nice paint score, I noticed that checking out the results sheet. Lots of great painted armies there, in fact, was fun to check them all out - bunny beastmen army was particularly fun

We were talking about the army spread and I totalled up those present out of the 100 armies ...

Vamps totally rocking the field unsurprisingly, but really only 1 Skaven? Huh.

Good job at the tournament. So many people knock the OK for being not super comptetitive but you seemed to do well!

I didn't play for max battle points (there were bonuses for each scenario, which determined your actual battle score rather than VP differences), all I wanted to do is see if I was good enough to "Win" more games than I lost at a GT with a lot of high caliber players. I knew I wasn't in it for overall or best general, it was merely to see how far I could get with my army and my ability; I still am trying to learn more about WHFB and I've got a long way to go.

The real kudos goes to the guy who did win best general, he didn't have the highest battle (that went to the guy with Overall), but he was second highest and used Ogres that wasn't even 3 Butchers and had a bunch of Gnoblars (who killed a High Elf Lord off his Star Dragon with 124 Sharp Stuff Shots in a single turn!).

Still, IMO, it's a lot easier to win overall or best general with another, harder army. There were certain matchups that you have to play your ass off in to make up the difference in army capability, where as with other armies you have a much easier time of it I think.
