I know nothing of epic. I have never played it. Never read the rules. The most I've done is download the book from Geedub.

Well a bunch of years ago, I was planning to do a travel 40k set up so I purchased a bunch of orks from the interwebs. I never ended up doing anything with them, and magnetized only a few bases.

After looking at ramshackles awesome army, I thought I'd see if what I got from ebay so many years back was an actual army or not x.x. Sooo...is this enough?

Yes, probably. You will want some of the huge wagons, battle fortress style. But in the end if you ebayed up a few more tanks you would have an ace army. Buggies ar epretty cool too. Are they bikes on the stompa sprues? Bikes, scorchas and buggies are worth taking. So yes this is enough models. You could alredy do quite a big infantry army.

I think that the main thing that makes my army is the standardised basing. They are all on disks of plastic (coins do just as well). In the end it makes the army look really cohesive. It also means that the infantry look more orky. Orks dont stand in neat rows of 5! All the infantry squads in my army were done as "mini dioramas". I just cut up plastic odds and ends and mounted the orks stood amongst the rubble. Looks really effective I think.

Id recommend a gargant too.

Yeah, I definitely was going to copy pretty much everything you've done with your army >.>...

There are some bikes on the sprues still. I'm thinking I'll end up converting the hell out of those standard looking tanks.

I really liked the style of basing you went with and my only thoughts were how does that affect the gameplay? Or does it really even matter?

I will end up getting my hands on a gargant someday should I move forward with this. But that won't be until I've got a solid army to add it to.

Hrm. Now, to figure out a list from what I've got ^_^.

New question:

What should I base my pieces on?

The rules are fairly open on basing in epic. Anything that is 20mm ish is OK. Anyway, have a look at the rules, it tells you mininum and maximum base sizes.

My bases are basically slotta bases with the edges filed off! Haha. But as I said, coins works really well.

Ive played against armies with the old 20mm square bases and armies with the 5mm x 40mm bases. Seems to make very little difference actually in game. I have never seen a game won or lost by the shape or size of the infantry bases! What you loose in width you gain in length, as the actress said to the bishop.

cool basing, very inspiring. May have to do a showcase army that steals that idea.

You'd just be stealing second hand ^_^! I completely stole to idea from Ramshackle ^_^. His army inspired this foray into epicness!

Well, I took the idea from some guys at warhammer world who had all thier tanks on round bases. My previous housemate, Ulisse Ratzini, used to work at fanatic and he based up his tanks too. Looked good, so I followed suit really. I mean, orks do look stupid stood in rows or 5 man formations, so I just had fun with them! Well, I say orks dont stand in rows all neatly, but that of course excludes stormboyz, but they are a bit wierd anyway!

So yes, good work on the base shown here Grey Death. Craking job! I found it a bit of a pain to cut the orks off the little round bases they come on, so to save time I just clipped the bases and then added other debris to hide the joins or make them look like they are standing on stones or sheets of metal! You have done a much neater job than me!

Ahh, yes, aslo with this technique its OK to put less models on some of the bases. See most of mine have only 4 guys on each base, plus some with only 3! Saves on painting and doesnt really look sparse. Plus your models will make a larger army!
