Just got back from Iron Man.

I liked it.

What's not to like a billionare in power armor kicking butt to make the world a better place.

And I think the best Stan Lee cameo yet.

I've heard the acting is pretty good compared to the usual superhero movie.

I'm off to see it next week, tourney this weekend and work next week means limited time for movie watching...

I can't wait to see this movie. My girlfriend even wants to see it. Even though Iron Man isn't my favorite hero he's still freakin' sweet.

The preceeding trailer for The Dark Knight is worth the price of admission (this coming from a guy who went to see I Am Legend on opening night in Imax to see the ~6 minutes of Batman... which was awesome).

Iron Man is certainly enjoyable with Robert Downey Jr. being the highlight. My girlfriend liked it more than I did... again... Downey Jr...

It was good. not cloverfield good but good. The big fight scene wasn't as impressive as I thought it would be, but a good flick nonetheless.

Well we might as well plan on a sequel. It is the second highest opening weekend for a non-sequel film ever. It made $100.7 mill in the US on Friday and Saturday in the US and $96.7 Worldwide. Adding in the early Thursday showings that puts it's weekend take at $201 million. Not to shabby.

Definitely a fun movie. I personally boygasm'd more than a few times over Stark's personal fleet. The Shelby, Saleen, Ford High Boy, all the bikes, the Tesla, and the ridiculously sexy Audi R8...

And if you go see this movie, you are wasting your money and time if you don't stay through the credits. Seriously, best post-credits wonderclip of all time.

So is that good or bad?

She Who Must Be Obeyed procured Cloverfield for me last weekend-watched it again yesterday still good. Iron Man good but not great (think Spidiy II was the best or Batman Begins). The "bad guy" didn't do it for me much as I like the actor. The big fight scene was ok.

And they really needed to play "Ironman" in the scene he was breaking out of the warlord's cave. We needed more Black Sabbath songs blasting through whenever Iron Man was flying/banging around.

Edit: ayah every time something dropped on the beautiful Shelby I kept crying "not the Shelby!" SWMBO was perplexed. Its a guy thing.

Blade II -> Best Marvel flick IMO

Iron Man -> Impressively solid movie, enjoyed all of it, made me remember my fondness for shellhead. Downey was really good as Stark, would never have picked him for it but he's all over that role in a great way. I agree with comments on the final battle, and will also say how much I appreciated the amount of guitar in the soundtrack. Easily #2 best Marvel movie for me.

Also look for Downey's appearance in the new Hulk movie, and for those that stay to the end, yep Avengers is on the horizon, though IMDB lists a LOT of other Marvel flicks before it - Wolverine next year, then Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Captain American, Nick Fury, etc.

Marvel is doing like DC with the Justice League, giving each character a movie of their own and then doing the Biggest Movie Ever to bring all that star power together.

Piercing the heavens

from Joblo.com
Marvel Entertainment held its shareholder webcast this morning where they announced some pretty interesting information regarding their upcoming slate. Included is confirmation that IRON MAN 2 is on the fast track for an April 30, 2010 release (summer officially begins in April now!) and THE AVENGERS in July, 2011. Also on the release schedule are THOR (June 4, 2010) and THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICAN (May 6, 2011). While Zak Penn is writing THE AVENGERS and Matthew Vaughn is developing THOR, there is no talent attached yet to CAPTAIN AMERICA though you can expect that to change soon enough. The announcement comes just three days after IRON MAN opened and has already pulled in over $200 million worldwide to the 2nd highest non-sequel opening in history. Also came news of plenty of other properties including video games, direct-to-DVD and animated TV series. ANT MAN was also confirmed as being in development (with Edgar Wright attached to write and direct) but no release date was announced.

There's a hint of Rhodes' War Machine armor in the wire-frames in the credits: an Iron-Man-style suit with a rotary gun mounted on the shoulder. So, we can probably expect it to appear in IM2.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

I think we can except that from Rhodes' line "next time...."

also, in the scene when Pepper sees tony taking of the armor, appearently there is a round object in the background on a tabel. a round obejct with blue and red stripes. and a star.

Captain America's shield, sounds like. I missed that. But Tony would be a likely developer of that technology for the upcoming Cap movie. Nice connection to build before the Avengers movie.

Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man, and the Hulk were the original Avengers lineup. Though Hulk left and Cap joined within the first four issues. I wonder if we'll get to see Nick Fury talking to Bruce after the Hulk credits. Wasp is, I think, probably not a strong enough character to get her own movie, but they might make her a supporting character in the Ant Man movie, and from there in the Avengers movie if people like her.

Pretty good movie all in all. I would say best of the Marvel movies although I liked Batman Begins better (DC I know). Only complaint was that I couldn't grok Jeff Bridges as the bad guy. Come on, Man, he's like, THE DUDE. Maybe the Dudemeister or El Duderino... not some coporate evil henchman with shaky motivations for hating his boss.

Spoilers:

Spoiler:
I thought his motivations in general were reasonable. Money and control, with a side order of jealousy for his dead partner’s son getting all the glory. Someone questioned his willingness to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, but when the goose makes clear that he’s not going to be laying any more eggs, and starts saying things that cost you literally billions of dollars, it’s not an incomprehensible response to try to kill the guy and stop the hemorrhage of money. What’s a bit more questionable is why he would do it at the BEGINNING, before Tony had his change of heart. Why would he arrange the kidnapping/assassination when Tony was still a team player and source of more wealth? That’s the big plot hole. It would make sense if maybe Tony had come close to catching on recently; if he had good reason to believe Tony would have such a change of heart soon. But no such background information was given in the film, so it’s not reasonable to assume it.

Spoiler:
I think it was out of greed from Slate. He obviously had no problem supplying both sides with munitions/tech to kill each other as he and SI were removed from the battlefield. In essence Stark has an obvious point where his morals had to kick in (which was at the beginning being wounded, and then liberation, vindication through his pinnance, etc.). Essentiallly it was a page right out of Joseph Campbell's Hero of a Thousand Faces (or something similar to that), where the protagonist is at the proverbial "fork in the road" and is forced to choose the path of good or evil. Slate on the other hand is already corrupted, he just hides it well.

Spoiler:
I think it is a combination of the two, as to why he tried to have stark killed at the beginning. Tony was unreliable and only peripherilly involved in the deeper mechanisms of the company. He designed stuff but wasn't doing the day-to-day, which is why he had no idea what was really being sold to and to whom. With each passing year Stane had to let this second banana overshadow him and everything he and Tony's father worked for. By his reasoning the Kingdom should have been his. Also with each passing day there Tony may find out something funky is up. You also have the tragedy factor, "Oh my god! Terrorists killed Tony Stark! We need to buy more weapons!" and leaving him alone on the throne finally.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.
