Well I had a chance to make it out to my 2nd tournament at the store (Gateway Games). So it was 1500 points again and I decided to field some of my Blood Ravens from Adepticon. It was a typical gun line with terminators for the anchor and two landspeeder tornadoes for objective grabbing...
Librarian in TDA, mantle, storm shield, FotA, VoT
6x terminators w. 2x AC
4x tactical Marine w. las/plas
sergeant w. bolter, power fist, teleport homer

5x Devastators w. 4x HB

4x Devastators w. 4x ML

While I have been a strong advocate of attack bikes over landspeeders I have to say that I now wish I had fielded two LSTs back in the GW 2007 circuit last year instead of the attack bikes. It was amazing how much fire they drew yesterday and always managed to come out okay. They were great tank hunters as well... dropping four IG tanks in my last game and a couple of Chaos Vindis in the first round as well.
So the missions were very interesting indeed... there was a list of five missions, three of which we would actually play. The missions had the rules for deployment and special mission rules like Deep Strike plus bonus points. You then selected three sets of objectives in whatever order you liked for rounds 1, 2 and 3. You would win each mission if you could fulfill more objectives than your opponent... for instance my first game revolved around table quarters and holding the enemy objective, while the third round I had to kill my opponent's HQ to win and the third round there were kill points assigned to enemy units you could score if you completely destroyed a unit. It was also possible that you and your opponent might be playing for different objectives if you had selected yours in a different order. So there was no victory points and I really enjoyed that a lot as the games were a lot more challenging and the emphasis was placed on tactical decisions.
First round was against Chaos:
Slaaneshi Daemon Prince w. wings and lash
Tzeencth Daemon Prince w. wings, warp time, and WoC
10x Death Guard w. 2x meltagun & power fist
10x Death Guard w. 2x meltagun & power fist
3x Vindi w. possession
This mission we both had to take table quarters to win with 12" deployment zones along the long table edges. There was a lot of terrain (> 25%), which I liked. There was a lot of large size 3 terrain along the middle corridor of the table so his vindis and daemon princes would have to flank or move through terrain to engage. I deployed behind terrain to avoid shots from the vindis and elected to start with the terminators on the table over on one flank. Two of the vindis came up on either flank along with the two daemon princes. My opponent was set on flaming my terminators and over committed the Tzeentch daemon prince, which I shot off the table. One of the two vindis failed its difficult terrain test and got stuck in a building... the other I managed to immobilize as it rounded the other flank and well out of 24" range. The vindi stuck in the building was also gunning for my termies, got off a shot and killed two, then my LSTs destroyed it with their ass cannons. The Slaaneshi prince came out along the flank beside the immobilzed vindi and was able to reach close combat with a nice move through some wooded terrain. I bum rushed the prince and killed him with a hail of attacks. One of the Death Guard units also made it through the woods to reach close combat but again they were outnumbered and died quickly from all the power fist attacks. I held three table quarters to one for my opponent and won.
Second round was against Tau:
Suit w. missile pod & plasma
Suit w. missile pod & plasma
Suit w. missile pod & plasma & smart missile system
10x Fire Warriors in Devilfish
10x Fire Warriors in Devilfish
10x Kroot
10x Kroot
10x pathfinders & markerlights w. Devilfish
HH w. railgun
Walking suits w. TL railgun
pirhana w. fusion blaster
pirhana w. fusion blaster
This was definitely the most challenging game of the tourney for me and my opponent was a great guy with a very nice looking army. I had to kill his HQ (one of the three suits) to score my main objective and I knew that was going to be very tough indeed. I had some great luck though:
deployment was 15" along long table edges, so basically only 18" from his line... three turns of walking and my termies would be in his deployment zone
no size three terrain and no woods either, so I could see all his tanks quite easily
finally I won the roll to go first and dropped his hammerhead the first turn along with a pirhana and one of the devilfish
I had deployed in a brick in the center and both my Dev squads had clear LOS right into his brick of Fire Warriors and Pathfinders right across the table. The HBs and MLs were vicious to say the least plus the termies marched right up into his deployment zone. I did roll several ones for my termies' armor saves here and there and by turn four only had the Librarian left with one sporting an assault cannon. Finally I had managed to kill off anything else closer to me than his HQ suit and unloaded with the ass cannon and rolled three rends... that was a truly amazing bit of luck and I must say I love my Dakka dice!
Third round was against IG led by Gaunt:
Gaunt
lots of conscripts
LR Demolisher
LR
Basi
2x HH
Rough Riders
Sentinel
2x Armored Fist
This game we were both playing for kill points and you had to completely destroy an enemy unit to get the points. Again a lot of terrain with a fair share splitting the table in half. All the fighting revolved around the center of the table. The LST were brilliant killing both LR, Basi, and rough riders. I had never played against Gaunt before and I must say he was impressive. The best part of the game was a lone tactical Marine that broke and massacred one huge brick of conscripts then held up the other one until the terminators could make it in to the assaults. So I won this one as well.
3 - 0 for the day.

Congrats on the win GBF. The games sounded great. Were any of your 3 opponents Dakka members?

Hi Darrian! As far as I know I was the only Dakka member there. The TO said they will be hosting another event in June - hopefully it will not be the same weekend as the Necro. It only cost $5 to play and that included three sodas and some pizza.

Congrats on your wins.
That chaos list looks like it would be tough as nails to kill to the last man but easy to out maneuver and render most stuff non-scoring. I guess the winged princes are used for objective grabbing and the lash used to prevent sneaky maneuvering, but at T5 princes aren't so hard to kill, and the loss of the Slaaneshi one seems like it would really be crippling.

Hey thanks and thanks again for not knocking my 6 man las/plas list... heh. It is an army I dearly love so I decided to get in a few more tournies with it before October rolls around. You know what they say about throwing stones in glass houses.
There will be big changes for Space Marines soon enough but to be honest I think it will be all good.
I agree that T5 princes are not made of the stuff they used to be but then again enough power fists is equal in all forms of measure. The three vindis were tough to deal with for my fairly static list and thank the developers for getting rid of Mutated Hull! My plan was to keep my units spread out (2 inches between each model really helps to negate against the big ordnance template), hope they drifted a bit then retaliate with my big guns. The speeders were ace getting behind one after he went for the termies. Its a hard call to use your best unit as bait but fortunately for me luck was on my side yesterday.
Anyways I am planning to come up for the next RTT at the Castle so maybe we can hang out a bit. I will probably bring a surprise list along to catch Rick and Bobby off guard.

We can put your las/ plas against my tri-falcon for one last cheesy hurrah before fifth edition.

Did you 3rd round IG opponent have an illegal list? I didn't see any platoons listed and you need a platoon for each armor fist squad. Plus, where is the command platoon?

No he did have some platoons plus command. I have never played IG myself (although I have read the codex) so the list I presented was the best I could recollect.
