My gaming buddies and I have recently decided that its about time we put a hold on 40k and gave fantasy a try.

So far, I've proxied a few different armies in several games trying to figure out what to play and I haven't gotten much closer to making my decision.

I wanted to hear what anyone thought was the army that's easiest on the wallet.

I will be primarily playing against HE, DE, and Empire and I'm fairly certain that I don't want to play O&G, OK, or Dwarves.

I'll still consider playing any of the above lists, I'm just leaning away from them. Thanks in advance for the help!

Sadly the three armies you listed that you don't want to play are the easiest on your wallet right now.

If you want a mostly plastic army that you can get a lot out of with a low model count I'd suggest trying a Brettonian Knight force. It's very powerful, will total around 40 or so models at 2k, and most of it can be converted out of the normal box of Knights.

I had forgotten about the Bretts.

It doesn't seem like they are an army with a variety of tactics available to them (see the nearby "Point & Click Armies" thread).

That being said, it looks as though I've consigned myself to an expensive army.

I suppose hunting for deals on ebay is the way to go then.

Very well, thanks for the input Voodoo.
