Hey all,

I just get to the point. I am thinking about giving 5th edition a chance and I know that it's not out yet, but from the rumors, troops are the flavor of the day and my guess is that the new Codex Space marine might look an awful lot like Codex Dark angel so with that in mind I thought about the following:

HQ:
1xBare bones Librarian

Troops (again here I am torn between mech and just using the new run rule as far as grabbing objectives go)
1x5 man Combat squad (Librarian hangs here)
4x10 man Las plas squad with Vet Sgt w/PF

Heavy Support
3 Vindicators to rain down large templates and be a pain in the...

So does this list seem viable? I need input as I am in the process of making a True Scale marine army. I'd like to stay troop heavy in case Jervis wants to change things up a bit, I'd like to make sure that the army would need little in the way of becoming viable again, unlike my Nidzilla army...which I won't get started about...

So thoughts? Comments? Critiques?

I might post a blog here on dakka too if anyone is interested in True Scale marines, or at least a facsimile of.

Thanks,
Chappy P!

Heya Chap,

I'm from that revisited group with HMBC.
We've had the run rule for quite a while now... interesting...

Anyways, troops even with run don't move that far, they still don't work as objective grabbers very well (unless insanely armoured but that's another story).

I'm a huge fan of the 3 vindies (for fun reasons rather than combat effectiveness) but two might be a better option with something else to mix it up a little,

As for heav on troops.
That seems a good way to go, and marines certainly can carry a little weight in the troops category.

I still think that las-plas is a little cheesy,
wouldn't mind seeing a meltagun somewhere for some real heavy punch.

looks like a reasonable bear bones,
but will have to see how things like assault mairines and scouts turn out before we can get a generic list out there.

But this would certainly be competative against generic builds,

View it from this angle, what armies do you expect in the 5th ed?
The Chaos armies out there played in the 4th ed are also powerful in the 5th: Plague Marines, lashing DPs, and Obliterators.
Here the Vindicators can do a great job, if they have PotMS.

following talking to a GW staffer about th ed rules (see link below for the rumours he gave me)

I'd take 'be swift as the wind' as your trait and put a unit of bikes in to do some last minute objective grabbing!

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme?

Thanks for the replies!
@Makaleth: Hmmm...I originally had just three squads mounted in Rhinos which I may have to revisit...

I am glad to know that vindicators are viable at least to some degree

and to Chimera_Calvin: I hope those rumors are true! I am not doubting you, at this point everything is based from rumor, but I hope what you have said is true!

In which case I might try to squeeze in an assault squad and maybe a cheap Chaplain. Or I could try for a larger 10 man assault, combat squad them up with the Librarian in one squad and a chaplain in the other?

Thoughts? Again I am just trying to figure out roughly how many marines I would need to build my force, which will be true scaled and based on terminator "chassis!"

Thanks,
Chappy P!
