Well, every online forum seems to have distinct (sometimes contradictory) ideas about what makes a good list. So, this is the list I'm considering running at the Grand Tournament for Games Day LA in August. They're supposed to be renegades, not daemon worshippers, so if it looks a bit like a Loyalist Army with spikes, there's a reason.

1,750 Games Day Red Corsairs

HQ - 160

Chaos Lord – 160
Daemon Weapon
Bike

(Travels with other bikers. Primary focus is on getting behind enemy lines to attack weak Support-type units. Also, CC support for CSM squads if needed).

Elites – 205

5 Chaos Terminators - 205
4 Combi-Meltas
Reaper Autocannon
Powerfist

(Deep-Strikers. Primary purpose is to cause disruption/confusion as well as anti-tank).

Troops - 795

10 Chaos Space Marines – 215
Meltagun
Flamer
Aspiring Champion
Powerfist
Combi-Melta

Rhino Transport – 50
Extra Armor

10 Chaos Space Marines – 215
Meltagun
Flamer
Aspiring Champion
Powerfist
Combi-Melta

Rhino Transport – 50
Extra Armor

10 Chaos Space Marines – 215
Meltagun
Flamer
Aspiring Champion
Powerfist
Combi-Melta

Rhino Transport – 50
Extra Armor

(Versatile forward troops – Flamers for Anti-Horde, Meltaguns for anti-MEQ/MC/Tank)

Fast Attack

5 Chaos Marine Bikers – 225
2 Meltaguns
Aspiring Champion
Powerfist

(See Lord)

Heavy Support – 365

Chaos Predator – 165
Twin-Linked Turret Mounted Lascannon
Lascannon Sponsons

Chaos Predator – 100
Heavy Bolter Sponsons

Chaos Predator – 100
Heavy Bolter Sponsons

(3 Predators – Long-Range Firing Line)

Total – 1,750

ok so you preds first of all HAVE to have something for a turret, you can't just chose not to take something for it, next you shouldn't mix special weapns. take either two flamers, two meltaguns, or some plasmaguns (which i recommend) also the combi melta on the champ is kinda a waste. your paying ten pts for one S8 shot, i'd rather pay 5 more pts to get a plasma pistol. finally your CSM squads need to have some kind of mark. at least IoCG. without that they run really easily and really far.

Well, I think it's pretty safe to assume any unit has all the equipment it gets automatically. So the predators have autocannon turrets.

Don't like the mixed weapons? I was going for versatility, as it's a tournament and I really won't know what to expect, thought I'd try something a little different. With the combi-metals, I'll still have 2 meltas to kill any big targets (yeah, one is only one shot, but generally these guys will only get one or two shots off before they're in CC), but also have a flamer to use against orks, nids, nurglings, etc.

Never liked Plasmaguns, so if I dropped the mixed weapons, they'd all be carrying meltaguns (or one squad will have flamers). I guess masses of rapid-firing bolters will suffice against hordes.

Hmm, unfortunately, non-IoCG marks don't add any kind of 'psychology' benefits, but if I drop all the combi-meltas, gave one squad flamers and the other 2 paired meltas, I'd be 5 points short of giving all 3 squads IoCGs. Maybe switch the terminator's reaper autocannon for a heavy flamer and add an icon to the bike squad as well.

Personally you need smoke over xtra armour as this will allow you to take a direct hit. I myself run upwards of four rhinos and always take smoke over x armour. Use the xtra points to buy searchlights and then find a use for the last few points.

Tarval, Chaos vehicles get smoke automatically.

If the Termies are DSing, why bother with the expensive AC? You'd be better off getting the HF instead.

IoCGs would probably be a good idea.

The AT Pred is way overpriced. I think you'd be better off taking a third anti-horde Pred and spending the 65 (!!!) points getting more AT into the list elsewhere.

I'd replace the Bikers by Raptors.
The Biker Lord is nice but can be instantly killed.
I'd replace him by a Sorcerer on bike or a winged DP that can be hidden behind the Rhino wall.
Where is an icon for the deep striking Termies?

I don't like the Biker lord or the bikers in general. If you dropped that biker squad you could start swapping/dropping weapons to specialize each squad a little more by adding Raptors to do your tank/elite hunting along with a DP. Your Lord is 160 pts and for 30 pts less you get +1 WS, +2 S, +1 T, +1 W, +1 A, wings and the ability to give him a bunch of good psycher powers that make him even more effective. He can also hunt tanks/elites if he really needs to be

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Red Corsairs without Huron...

Shame on you!

Silly response. You don't imagine that Huron takes part in every single engagement the Corsairs fight in, do you?

And I'm just pointing out that this is a gross generalisation. Can you imagine someone posting the following responses?

"Ultramarines without Calgar? Shame on you!"

"DA without Azrael? Shame on you!"

"Iyanden without Yriel? Shame on you!"

"Black Legion without Abaddon? Shame on you!"

Why should Red Corsairs be any different?

You could always play this using the Space Marine Codex. I believe you'd get a cheaper anti-tank predator, cheaper power fists on champions, rites of battle on your "Chaos Lord", two "reaper autocannons" in your terminators, I think it would a pretty straightforward and cool "counts as" army since you're not running anything that loyalists don't have access to. And since your playing red corsairs it wouldn't even be a stretch to use loyalist rules. You could maybe even do some cool stuff with the traits.

i agree with tomguycot here, but if you o for using regular marines then you should wait for the new marine codex to come out.
