hey, just looking at the eldar codex and i really like the concept of all the different troop choices and mechs, so i came up with a rough 500 point army. please tell me your thoughts and give some Constructive Criticism. im basing the army mostly round buying an eldar battleforce and maybe a couple other things, looking for the army too cost under £100.

HQ
Eldar Farseer (Singing spear and Guide) - 78 points

Troops
5 Dire Avengers - 60 points

10 Guardians with a bright lance platform - 110 points

5 Rangers - 95 points

Heavy support

1 War Walker (EML+Scatter Laser) - 65 points

That Leaves me with 90 points, i had a few ideas of what to do with that 90 points, either 5 striking scorpions for melee assaults. A 4 man jetbike squadron for hit and run. Or 5 howling banshees, again for melee assaults

I realise this is quite a troop orientated army and i dont know whether its a good idea to add the rangers in at 500 point level. the plan was for the guardians and DA to move forward with striking scorpions/ howling banshees tieing up the enemy fire while the rangers and war walker stayed back with the farseer using guide so they can re-roll missed hits and pin enemies down at range.

now im not an expert at eldar, or wh40k in general so im expecting alot of criticism for the list, just make it constructive criticism

Thanks for all the help in advance

What is this, a chat room? Bumping your post to demand replies after less than one hour (!!) is a bit much, don't you think?

As for the list, almost anything works at 500 points. Your list, and any of the options you mention as possible uses of the last 90 points, looks okay to me. If you take the bikes, you'll just have to play more stand-off-ishly and probably not even attempt to use the Guardian shuricats. If you take the melee option, you can afford to be a bit mroe aggressive. Either works.

Sorry, im just a very impatient guy lol.
So sound like a good list? no Changes?

i was finking of going for a Saim-Hann kind of force instead, ya know, autarch on jet bike, 3 x 3 man units o jet bikes and 2 vypers, pretty much the windrider host

Also a good plan. Some online dealers still have the Windrider Host deal, I think.

I would be inclined to forget the Vypers, though. They aren't really much good. Open-topped AV10 hurts and only one weapon option allows you to stay out of HB range. The set contains two, I know, so I guess you'd want to use them. I just wouldn't buy any more.

that only comes up to about 400 points though, what do you think i shud do with the extra 100 points? get more jet bikes? or invest in some shining spears or swooping hawks to complement them?

What about a very avenger heavy army?

HQ

Farseer with guide 75

Troops

7 Dire Avengers with Exarch ( Exarch with power weapon and shimmershield and defend) 126

7 Dire Avengers with Exarch ( Exarch with 2 shuriken catapults and bladestom) 116

6 Dire Avengers 72

111 points left i dont know what to do with, any ideas?

At 500 points non-competitive, with new players --- just pick what you like the look of, and can paint well. Just make sure you cover all the bases - an anti tank unit, an assault unit, and something that can shoot infantry. There's nothing wrong with the Battleforce box sets. After a few games you'll probably gravitate toward a style of play and the question will answer itself.

I've watched Eldar at low points a pretty good deal. I've seen those rangers take out a lot. They infiltrate into a building, just perch into it and start laying down fire. I've watched them AP 1 shot half a unit of Termies in 500 pts before.

But I've never played against it or played it myself. I've been thinking about branching into another army just for funs. And I was considering Eldar. But I'd probably be using Eldrad (because I think the Dakka header that mentions Eldrad being on every battle field ever is hilarious. I'd probably name him Eldrad 1 and then Eldrad 2, when I played my second game with the list and so on). Besides that just a bunch of rangers and maybe some Harlies. And if everyone uses Eldrad he must be good right?

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.
