So, I have an old beastman army I started to build back when the army book first came out, using all kroot models and for that reason was going for a Tzeentch theme (birdy looking and all). It's been shelved for a while but now I want to unshelf it. I'm hoping to go for around 1000 pts to start with, and possibly add from there, all using the 1 beast army book and not merging with hordes since you can't anymore.

In my collection I have:
1 demon prince (I know I can't use him till 2000 pts)
20 tzaangors/bestigors w/ great weapons w/ full command
13 ungors
10 gors
2 full commands for beast herds to make 2 small units if I wanna
12 hounds
1 minotaur w/ great weapon
2 Wargors with great weapons, 1 is a staff so i could make him a shaman maybe

unpainted/unbuilt I have:
5 screamers that I can't use now
1 charriot (I can also proxy more from my TK army)
3 more minos
2 more hounds
8 marauder horsemen w/ flails that I'll convert to have spears for Centigors

So anyone have any ideas on how I might put together a decent 1000 pt list, and then build from there? I was going to try and do 2 small herds but I'm afraid they won't have the #'s to win outnumbering and stuff for extra CR bonuses...

Any thoughts?

it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

ok that sounds like a good start maybe I'll give that a shot.

Would it be good to maybe lose a rank on the bestigors to add some extra hounds?

What about a standard for the herds, even if it's just a generic one?

More units is always better. An extra unit of hounds would give you the ability to have 2 units ambush (I would probably ambush with the Herds, given the low Ld of the hounds).

Right now the herds are so small, I wouldn't include a standard. The +1 CR does not balance the risk of giving up 100 VPs. I really would't risk giving them a standard until they pass 16 models in size, 20 would be better. Save the herd standards for larger games.

Speaking of standards, I gave the Bestigors the war banner just because. Swap it or drop it if you choose; I often give the Bestigors the Vitriolic Totem because everyone hates S6 poison attacks.

If you free up some points, look into giving the minotaurs great weapons or extra hand weapons- something to increase their hittiness. I consider light armor for them a waste unless I have points to spare.

Oh, my minos all have great weapons, they're modeled like that anyway.

What if I went for 1 bigger herd instead of 2 small ones? that may free up a few points too for some other goodies.

I gotta get my PC fixed, sucks not having army builder to mess with.. they need to make a Mac version :(

I thought about one bigger herd, but I wasn't sure exactly how many gors/ungors you had available. Also, I am a firm believer that more units is always better. It means you should be doing the outmaneuvering.

Well I have enough gors/ungors to do both of those small units or 1 big one of around 20 -24 models. My concern was just not having enough models to have real staying power if I get hit by a bigger unit, so I could have 1 big unit and some extra hounds or maybe a 2nd chariot if I can afford it?
