We were talking about this a while back and we still have'nt decided what should happen...
A vortex grenade is thrown and swallows up a objective, this repeats on other objectives. So what happens
(a) You forget about the objective and continue on with the game.
(b) A much more amusing way try to follow and control the new objective while trying to avoid the death and destruction it produces

I don't expect you to die a meaningless death I expect you to die for the emperor now CHARGE

The "objective" is just a marker, not a model or a piece of terrain (though it may be convenient and/or look cool to model it as such). It should not be removed in the first place.

That kinda diminishes the fun of it. My group is having fun remembering the joys of RT and 2nd ed when the VG would often romp around the table, eating troops, vehicles, terrain and passing small children. The fun part was trying to stay out of its way, and hoping it didn't 'breed' (split into two vortices which then continued on).

Cheexsta has it right. it stops the game getting complicated.

But, if you want objectives to be swallowed, play that who ever has the most models/units sucked into the template over the game counts as having captured it. Puts a new spin on things, although not sure if it'd be worth the loss...

Speaking of that, I recently had a small-ish Apoc game where the objective was to drive/run into a portal. Whoever had the most stuff in the portal won... but of course, you lost that unit from the game. It was an interesting balance between running in and fighting back.

We usually put objectives on terrain pieces, so if the vortex swallows the terrain the objective is gone, too. We usually have a vortex grenade in each army, so there's two bouncing around. Apoc is all about crazy stuff. Makes it fun.

if I remember correctly, (from rumours mostly) weren't Vortex grenades around in one of the Early editions of the rules? if so imagine what normal battles would have been like with them in!

THey were, but even more fun was a Stasis Grenade. If your opponents objective was to kill the character that had the grenade, you could just have him drop it at his feet. A Stasis grenade created an area where nothing could move in or out and weapons could not be shot into the area......

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

By having your character drop the Stasis Grenade, he couldn't be hurt by the enemy, therefore your opponent loses.

true, but seems to be an unfair advantage. Could psycic attacks hurt him, because technically there not weapons.

Well, there were alot of things in 2nd Ed that were unfair, the virus bomb strategy card for example...

That sound like an apocalypse idea if there ever was one. I assume it works like the Horus Heresy Novels depect it.

Yeah, pretty much.

Any army not in 'sealed' armour as pretty much dead.
Eldar aspect armour was 'sealed' as is PA/TDA.

It was pretty much a turn one win for the virus bomb player. There were toxins for eldar, humans, genestealers (tyranids didn't really have an army force), orks, etc, so you could tailor it to your opponent.

Sound like a boring way to play-may as well just say "I've got a Virus bomb, lets not bother playing"

Oh, there were more boring things than merely virus bombs (which were bad enough). We had nukes back in RT as well.

Two overwatching armies, for example. 6 turns of two armies having a staring match.

Many gaming groups banned several of the strategy cards...
