I have a number of armies for 40k, however I have always relied on my Alpha Legion throughout 4th edition for tournaments (and have won several locally with it). Having just come off of a 1.5 year break from 40k, I see that the new Chaos codex has rendered my army non-existent. The others I have are fairly competitive, but not to the level that I'd be comfortable fielding if I actually want to win something.

It's time to rebuild and since I've been away for a while, I'm looking for some knowledgeable Dakka input.

(1) How does the new Chaos book fare in tournament settings?

(2) Any comments on the following proposed list would be helpful:

HQ
Daemon Prince - Wings, MoS, LoS [155]
Daemon Prince - Wings, MoS, LoS [155]

TROOPS
8 Plague Marines - 2x plasma guns [214]
10 Khorne Berserkers - Skull champion, power fist [250]
Rhino - Extra armor [50]
10 Khorne Berserkers - Skull champion, power weapon, meltabombs [245]
Rhino - Extra armor [50]
5 Khorne Berserkers [105]

HEAVY SUPPORT
Defiler - Reaper autocannon, extra CC arm [150]
Defiler - Reaper autocannon, extra CC arm [150]
3 Obliterators [225]

TOTAL: 1749

Basically the idea is to run the plague marines and the small squad of berserkers to objectives while being screened by the rhinos. I imagine the tanks will be major targets due to their payload, however without the entanglement rule I can afford to lose them en route as long as I get a turn or two of movement out of them (and there are also the defilers and DPs to shoot heavy weapons at).

The two lash DPs can either move the enemy within berserker charge range or make units bunch of up to be wiped out entirely by on-target battlecannon/plasmacannon shots (between the 5 shots, at least one should hit).

In my experience if you want to run rhinos 3 is the minimum magic number. It is too easy to stop just two of them.

Defilers are not the best heavy support choices but with 2 of them and 3 oblits I think the threat of them all combined will be ok. Espescially in 5th when the defilers get cover saves and will be worth their points, and not fall to single shots all the time.

Your princes : Two lashes are good for a shooting army, but you need them supporting those zerkers in HTH or the zerkers are going to get owned by enemy special characters and elite units. My experiance says if you are assaulting one character minimum should be going with them.

If you changed the zerkers to noise marines or Tsons the two lashes would set you up for take advantage of the decent shooty army, plus noise marines are good counter assault as they can shoot every turn until the counter assault is needed then can rush in and usually go 1st.

I think you would have ok success with the list as it is ... some arimes woudl give you problems though ... Say, eldar who can shut down the lashes and bring enough high strength and high ap weapons in each turn to tear you down faster than you can reciprocate.

Thats just my 2 cents thought ... I'm pretty competitive but I don't use all the "uber" lists as I like to try out different combos and switch out units alot.

Yeah I was planning on having the DPs assist the berserkers so that's no problem. I tend to get a lot of opponents firing shots at the defilers anyway--I guess they bring a psychological advantage to the table.

I'm also worried about how to deal with Eldar due to the ease at which they will shut down lash.

Do you think it would make sense to drop the 5-man squad of berserkers in order to fill out the plague marines and pick up another rhino? The only reason I did this in the first place is because I'm concerned about my model count and only troops being able to capture objectives in 5th edition.
