A minor update to a possible Tau list I posted some time ago ment to take advantage of some of the v5 changes, namely the one where my Fire Warriors can steal my Pathfinder' rides as they'll be sitting in the back somewhere sniping and lighting stuff up.

Wow. I think that this may be the first Tau army I've seen without railguns/heavy support choices.

Without that ranged firepower, I see you have a great deal of trouble with vehicles that are protected by infantry. Seeker missiles just won't cut it (and that's a lot of points to put into one-shot weapons!).

If you see any armor 14 vehicles (Monoliths, Land Raiders, etc) you're in for a hurting.

One thing I don't understand is the lack of sniper drones.

3 snipers and a controller - 80 points

3 rail rifle pathfinders and a shas'ui - 88 points

I can understand wanting to split up your groups, or put rail rifles with the pathfinders, or you were going to buy the bodies anyway so you're really just paying for rail rifles...thats fine.

But the stealth field on the snipers is really useful. and you're getting it, in this comparison, for -8 points.

Another thing I don't get is the 6 seeker missiles. You only seem to have 11 markerlights. Thats one unused seeker on turn 1, and potentially more unused if the opponent is able to mow those piranhas down going first. Maybe your local area has big hills, but I know I'm going to have trouble hiding them turn 1 and they will be open to get shot up, 4+ save or no.

Why the shas'ui on every firewarrior team? You're already paying for shadowsun's LD bubble. Yeah, she'll probably die, especially with your lack of any long range anti tank, but it still feels like wasted points. Plus with FOF, the fire warriors will mostly be moving (getting out and shooting) and the markerlights would be wasted. You can buy a sniper drone team for the points you save losing the shas'ui from the firewarriors, and then you can drop a couple rifles from the pathfiners and you end up ahead in points, markerlights, and rifles (+1 rifles, +1 lights, +24 points). You lose your bonding, which may be an issue, but they're LD 10. Heck, lose a couple seekers and buy an ethereal - they will either be getting swept in combat or never running.

Theme wise the list is Elite Soldier, thus the lack of heavy tanks and suits. You got all the Shas'ui in there as vet serges, and the Bonding Knifes are a real bonus with Troops scoring down to the last man.

Messed around with the Pathfinders and the Snipers, and found it only cost a single Stealth Suit to swap out all the Rail Rifle Pathfinders for two Sniper Drone Teams. Must have been messing around with other options and got locked into that mind set and missed this, thanks.

Lots of long range fire power to take out AV 14 tanks isn't often necessary for me as you don't see many Monoliths or Land Raiders locally. You see some, but not enough to make it a horribly list. Only one guy tends to consistently play with Monoliths and multiple Land Raiders, and, well, I quite sure I'll never have to play him since I AM him.

Shadowsun's not as durable as a Lord I would point up myself, but her fig has grown on me (though i'd have to repose it to look more like the artwork in the book) and as an added bonus, most all the local Tau players are Farsight fans.

If your only planning your army to fight the local metagame its a fine list. But if you fought something unexpected, like say ork hordes, your lack of templates and ways of stopping them reaching your lines (pinning dosent work until the mob is below 11, usually start 25+ strong) would be game over on setup.

warhammer 40k mmo. If I can drive an ork trukk into the back of a space marine dread and explode in a fireball of epic, I can die happy!

I would fear Nidzilla more than Ork Hordes. While I lack the black markers, I have good bit of rifle fire to throw into em, with tanks to play line blocker. If I can't pin em, I'll just make it so I'm hitting em on 3s or 2s instead.
