Are transports even worth taking in V5?

With pretty much everything able to run now, what's the use of taking a transport that can move the same exact distance? I mean, maybe fast stuff like the eldar have might be ok, but a rhino? chimera? what's the use? Sure they have to blow it up so you get some extra armor, but a good glance is all it takes to immobilize it or stun the crew, then the passengers have to hoof it anyway. So, is it better just to run and save those points for other stuff?

Transports are now better than they were in 4th. Even the slowest transports move 12" a turn. Foot troops move 9.5" a turn. Advantage transports. Add in the additional protection of troops not being able to be shot at until the transport is gone and they become yet again more valuable. In addition, you don't get entangled when your transport blows up, you don't bail out if your transport gets penetrated, and you can't be killed by having your transport doors blocked off anymore. Lets also not forget 4+ cover saves due to cover or smoke and extra armor (and its equivelents) is still a great upgrade to keep your transport moving. Oh yah, and transports still make great mobile terrain for units moving up behind them.

All in all, I think rhino rush and other transport based armies will see a come back in 5th.

Also since Transports now can take any one that will fit you can use you transport to redeploy units that would be too slow or too big a target to get where they're need. Also in a pinch you can use them to ram enemy tank/walker(/s). ok you may lose your transport in the process but taking out a tank that cost more should be worth the risk

I agree with phoenix.

6"+D6" is not equivilant to 12" as you will more often than not roll the full 6" on the run roll.

Transports give you different tactical options than just having your units foot mounted. Besides, with area terrain not blocking LOS anymore, certain vehicles can actually be an excellent source of LOS denial or at least a mobile cover save.

OK I get it now... I read the rumors wrong, I thought run was a full 6" not a d6.

I always wanted to do a full mechanized force, planning that for my traitor guard eventually for the theme.. so it's good to know it will still be a good option.

Transports can contest objectives also right? Unless there is a specific rule preventing them from doing so, all models contest.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

hells yeah. For one thing, you can always roll a 1" for your run roll. I have been screwed on fleet rolls, it happens. And don't forget Rhinos are still perfect for rapid fire, and like yak said, mobile walls are more useful than ever.

A Rhino a day keeps the infantry away.

I agree that transports are even more usefull than before. Especially the Eldar transports, taking the 'just another gunship' role and mitigating it for better troop movement capabilities has really helped.

How? Well they move very quickly while carrying any unit of troops that fits in the number of models it is allowed to transport & they get great cover saves for moving very fast (their role). These can make some of the low model count specialists in the Eldar list into flankers or help them take advantage of isolated vehicles or objectives.

Transports are good!

Does this mean that if I have a 6 HB squad can I fit them inside their WS along with another clowns from hell squad at the same time?
If yes I only can say groovy!

No, just one unit in a (non-super heavy) transport at a time. It's just that transports can now carry any eligible unit after the game begins, not just the one they were purchased for.

What happens if you block the doors now? I didn't notice that.

You do an "emergency disembark" where you can be 2" from ANY part of the vehicle. I think you get pinned if you have to resort to that though. Still, better than dead!

There is some sort of penalty for it, but I can't remember off the top of my head what it was. Might have been a pin check, an auto pin, or everyone takes a wound on 4+. Can't remember.

*sigh* You know what they say, the mind is the second thing to go.

Only bad part about transports is that they give up killpoints as they count as seperate units.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

True, but they're more versatile and now more resilient, so I wouldn't be too worried about giving up KP's.

No more glancing death for vehicles. *sigh* So much for the usefulness of my gauss weaponry. Bring on the heavy destroyers!

Or you are placed where the vehicle used to be (in difficult/dangerous terrain)... if it blows up that is
