So, you may recall me mentioning that I was putting my Tau on hold for the time being to work on some 'nids.

Well, it's true. I've been farting around with the washes and I have a good colour scheme for them. And today I bought the first battleforce I need to build them up. (The rest will come from a Tyranid Assault Brood, and stuff I have lying around... And maybe some FW purchases.)

So, no photos tonight, but here's a brief summary of what I'm shooting for for my force of around 2K points:

1 Flying Hive Tyrant /w 2x scy tals or scy tals and lash whip / bonesword.
1 Walking Hive Tyrand /w scy tals and lash whip/bonesword
3 Carnifexes (Carnifexii?) /w 2x scy tals
20 Genestealers
16 Spine Gaunts
48 Hormagaunts
3 Zoanthropes

Nice to have for a bigger (or apoc) force would be:
2 Carnifexes /w crushing claws and scy tals
"Some" Shooty Carnifexes
"Some" Gargoyles
"Some" Winged Warriors
Another walking hive tyrant
Tyrant guard
Trygon and/or Heirodule.

Of note, I will not be pushing myself as hard on this force as I was for getting my Tau ready for Cangames, as I'm not up against such a hard timelimit, and I've got to assemble (but not paint) a 2000 point force of High Elves for a HoH tournament.

Wow, I can't believe I've let this post stagnate for the last 5 and a half months... oh well I haven't really done much with my 'nids for 5 of those months, so I'll call it fair.

At any rate, still no photos, partly because I'm feeling slightly lazy, partly because I've only been working on them in fits and starts as I feel inspired, but I have 7 genestealers painted up, I'm about 1/3rd of the way through painting my 6 ForgeWorld ripper bases (which, by the way, I just can't stand to sit down and paint in one go, there's so much detail on them that I just need to take breaks every so often).

Oh yes, and I've mostly converted a broodlord, and am starting in on the flying hive tyrant.

The conversion work on the broodlord was a re-pose to make him running forwards instead of howling at the sky. Still to do: model feeder tendrils, the challenge? Do so without making him look like Cthulhu.

The flyrant is based off a current Hive Tyrant with the new high elf dragon wings (I had a spare pair of old dragon wings, and when I assembled my dragon mage those many months ago, I decided that I would pinch the nice new wings for my Tyrant) which give him a wingspan of roughly 11.5 inches.

Also, I've had relatively little time since the end of August, undergrad engineering takes up a lot of time, and right now is exams. On the bright side, I have almost 3 weeks between my last exam and the start of the winter term. Maybe I can get some good progress going then.

And now for some photos...

My two colour scheme test gaunts, the difference being the colour of the gun.

The (still in progress) broodlord.

And the flyrant, my overall plan is to replace the normal legs with another pair of talons, nidify the wings, sculpt a tail (note that I chopped the regular pelvis to bend the other way, not sure if I want to keep it bent over so hard or straighten it out, depends on the eventual pose), and attach it to a flying stand somehow.

My main 'problems' at the moment are,
0) Study for and pass my exams, which prevents me from spending lots of time on most other things.
1) I want to add some brighter 'streaks' to the carapaces, but I can't figure out how to do so without making them look too orange or pink.
2) How do I add feeder tendrils to the broodlord without sacrificing his lovely mouth full of teeth. (I don't want him to look like Cthulhu)
4) Just how do I want to pose my flyrant, as though he's descending from a great height to stab someone, as though he's down low and ready to stab someone, or with a kickass diorama base in which he's currently ripping the hell out of a marine dread. - If I do numbers 1 or 2, I'm faced with a quandry as to where to place the flying stand as the main body of the tail will be built up from greenstuff, if I do number 3, I'm faced with a 'slightly' bulky model that's going to have the profile of a toppling over dread with a flyrant clawing its way into the top.
5) Figure out where 3 went.
