I wonder if it's because some twonk HAS done the petrol (gasoline) in the paint jar thing?

It was going to happen.

Next up, I really don't think the laser pointer will be sold here, either. Not with the recent changes in laws banning pointers above 1mw power level.

After all the fanfare it would be a great hit to GW to have to recall it everywhere because they had inadvertantly provided kids everywhere with a portable flamethrower.

Hairspray was infinitely more effective... the better the hold the better the burn.

But...um...I don't know anything about that...

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

From Bell of Lost Souls:
"There are conflicting reports that the LOS pointer is an LED, not an actual laser as predicted by many, so there should be little in the way of safety concerns with it (the jury is still out on this one)."

I just got lucky when a local store was closing out airbrush kits, so I bought them out.

www.coastairbrush.com I suggest the Iwata Eclipse series.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

Actually, it may not be that someone used it with flammable material, after all it does go on sale on the 21st.

Two weeks ago, I was looking at it in my local GW, and noticed that on the paint jar, there is a mixing line running up the side of the jar: fill the paint to level x, fill the water to level y, sort of thing. Kind of neat because it takes the guesswork out of diluting the paint.

Now the mixing line started at the very bottom of the jar, except the thickness of the glass at the bottom of the jar was a half inch, thusly half of the mixing ratio was filled by the glass, totally screwing up the mixing line.

I mentioned this to the manager and said "Is this supposed to be like this?" Said manager (to me anyways, shrugged it off, as most people would). My guess is that someone else noticed this and said "We can't have people using their own intuition on how to mix paints!" and recalled the whole shebang.

Personally, I was waiting for a faq that asked "How much paint/water ratio should I use?" "Roll a d6 for it!"

Actually, it seems there is a problem with the hose connector. The hose has a tendency to detach itself while the propellant is still running.

BTW I once build a working flamer ot of a fridge compressor and an industrial spray gun. I had some great fun trying it out until my father found out. He went corkscrew, almost had a stroke and then bought me a sweet gaming rig (Pentium 2! It was the nuts then) out of sheer fatherly pride.

You know, I'm all for calling a turd a turd when the situation calls for it, but honestly, quality of non-rules products and customer service are not problems that I've encountered with GW.

I've started aquiring models to make a daemon army, and two of the boxes I bought, (out of about $1k US stuff) had missing bits. I called GW, and they immediately sent me replacement boxes. Apparently, without their bitz service, they can't just send me the two bitz I was missing. I have no problems, at all, with GW customer service.

Likewise, in terms of quality products, apart from rules, I think just about everything they've released lately has been excellent. The foundation paints are great, my limited use of the new washes has produced good results. I've really liked most of the miniatures they've released lately, and even those that I've disliked have been more for aesthetic reasons, not quality. I can't remember the last model I saw that I thought was a crappy sculpt.

GW has flaws. Pick on their rules team all you want. Their prices on some things are outrageous (GW hobby flock - repackaged Woodland Scenics stuff with a 200% markup, for example). But keep the criticism to the areas where it's warranted. Their quality and Customer Service aren't the areas lacking.

I would have to agree. I love to get on the bash GW corp bandwagon. But I've been buying for 15 years, and the quality of their minis has only gone up over the years. The only bit I would contest is that their line of tools are overpriced. The only thing I've seen that looks cheap is that silly vise, I've got an old red version, and it's garbage.

Well, compare their clippers to clippers you get at radio shack, or michaels, and the GW ones cost more. Clippers clip, yes? The GW file set costs $12 for 3 files - I get the same files for $1/each at my local railroad shop.

Again, nothing wrong with the quality of these files, knives, clippers, etc, they're just overpriced.

As for airbrushes - the hand-flamer looked like a decent inexpensive single-action airbrush using canned air. It's not a bad introduction to airbrushing, and should keep them selling air for $15 for a while, but for someone who wants to do more than basecoat models, moving up to a proper dual-action airbrush is inevitable, and as they're not that much more complex, you might as well get one of those to start with. I use a Badger 150, and I've had no problems.

I'd agree with most of what you say, redbeard--but all of the non-model stuff GW sells is:

1) Something cheaply made, OR
2) Something you can get elsewhere for cheaper, OR
3) The exact same thing but repackaged with a huge markup.

I haven't bought anything but models from GW in forever.

Hell, the only things I WANTED from GW I can't get anymore.

Primers in the correct colors.
The old style zip kicker.

Meh. I can't say how much money I've saved (and more models I've purchased) just by not buying GW primers at ten times the price...

Does anyone remeber the GW foamcutter? IIRC it was $25 - $30 for something you can pick up at the local hobby shop for $5....

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

For the old style zip kicker do you mean the spritzy kind of bottle? if you have a Hobbytown USA around, they pull a GW and repackage stuff with their own name on it, and their brand of zip kicker is in the old style spritzy bottle

Acctually its by Bob Smith International.
Most large hobby shops can become distributers with their store logo and information on the bottles. The stuff works great though.

Well, GW sells hobby supplies for a simple reason: people buy them. Unlike with their models, I've never seen a problem, even at a GW shop, with using non-GW tools or paints. They sell them because it's convenient for some of their customers (or their customers parents/wives) and because if nothing else it shows a new gamer what kind of tools are out there.

I'd certainly never buy any of it, but at the same time we don't have to, not even to the extent we have to buy their minis.

On a different subject, I was looking around for some fun proxie arbite/sisters models, and I was shocked at the prices for non-GW models. I don't know when it happened, but the era of GW models being way pricier then the competition is over, unless I'm totally missing something.

I'm working on one using 3" pvc pipe, some nylon flex hose, vavling, and a detached air compressor. Should work out great. Testing it with water first and making sure I'm covered in Nomex when I do live fire it.
