That monolith is looking great so far too. You've taken what is quite possibly the most visually dull model GW has ever produced and flipped it on it's ear. Very good stuff!

I wasn't just talking about the NMM, I was talking about the whole of that stunning piece, I'm especially curious as to the base and the hair, along with how you get white skin, are you mixing a little skull white/bleached bone into a skin tone?

Regular Dakkanaut

@malfred: I see ,till it's finished

@Solasun: the skin color is based on Skull white, Scab red, Elf flesh .and I was trying to make a world of warcraft dark elf color feeling.

the hair and NMM etc are all about the same technics called blending and glazing , if you could master these two ,then whatever color you want, so try to follow through that NMM tutorial.

some pics available for the base making

The Monolith is lovely, I've not seen camouflage done on Necrons before, nice detailing too.

Dakka has been lucky enough to have some great work posted here...but that is simply one of the best paint jobs I have ever seen on this board. As has been said.. the skin is AMAZING! The paint is smooth and the shading/blending is insane! Great work.

The only thing I don't like 1000% is the light blue highlight on the back of the hair. It isn't blended quite as well as the rest of the highlights.

Amazing work. I'll definitely be giving your technique for nmm a go on my next one off model.

btw, no one has posted a nmm article here on Dakka yet, yours would be one hell of a good start!

I think my favorite part of the entire model is the base. The color transition is absolutely beautiful. And the addition of the vegetation is spot on.

There isn't a single aspect of that mini that isn't gorgeous. This is the kind of paint job you'd expect to be 54mm. Tremendous!

VERY nice!! What is your blending method? I have been working with layering staggered with glazes for some good results.

I like seeing how you approached the base. I often flip-flop on whether to mount the mini on the base before painting or not.

For army projects, I tend to mount before painting to save time.

Great work!! It is nice to see stuff of this caliber on Dakka from time to time.

Thanks for the praises people .

@xenite: the painting technics are in my NMM tutorial. I usually mount the models on base after they are finished ,because most time I was just too eager to paint the model than making a base at first and sometimes mounting first will make painting the bases more difficult IMO.

Another query on your NMMing tutorial, when you're glazing the model with Scorched Brown are you drawing along the whole of the blade like with the Ice Blue or are you starting at say halfway down the blade and then limiting your brush to the lower end of the surface rather than covering the whole blade?

Ye man it's the very halfway , my bad for the miswriting. In fact it's even less than halfway, just concentrate the brush on the edge ,and then bush the color to the border, left a thin line of brown there .

I have that model, and now I can never paint it. Thanks a lot!

Seriously, though, fantastic fig. Really brought out the details.

Seriously dude ,paint your girl, there are also lots of powerful painters ,who can make me cry with their models ,but I still paint through my way , and I guess you are already better than those starters ,so why not?
