Most of this is so true, its ridiculous that no one has written it down so far.

From my own personal experience, however, I can warn readers not to get too attached to any one particular phrase. My own wife has caught on to some of my phrases and now knows that I'm not listening intently if I say one of them (because for some reason I don't use them when I really -am- listening to her). Secondly, beware of being questioned on things later - that's the true test of your mad multitasking skills. I am no expert in this capacity. The number of times that I have said, "Wait - what?" to which I've received the response, "I told you about that yesterday." is sadly way too high...

LOL you are wise. Sagelike even.
My wife has the dreaded , "hey look at this" attack.
Which I will and say "thats nice".
You all of course know it takes a good while to refocus after painted eyeballs on a 1 1/2 inch soldier and I have no idea what shes talking about, thats how she always gets me!!!

VERY VERY true... as well as being careful about overusing your "grunts" too often.
Diversity is the key on that.
As far as being questioned later... I have ensured that I am known to have a horrible short term memory.
It helps to nurture that reputation by forgetting things occasionally. LOL
Not remembering later is no problem for me.
Also, there's the defense of "Well, when you came and talked to me about that was I doing something already?"
::pause::
"I was."
::longer pause::
"So, you're upset that I don't remember something that you talked to me about while I was focussed on something else?"
Remember, guys... YOU are the victim here.

But this article is quite correct and very true. Practice makes perfect! Eventually your brain is capable of listening even when you aren't.

If you really want to frustrate the femme in your life, reverse the situation when SHE'S doing something of her interest that is concentration intensive. When she gets irked or annoyed, remind her how she does the same thing. A colleague of mine told me it worked for him, and I have actually seen his Missus walk into the hobby room and say "Nevermind, it can wait."
However, my better-half has realized I can split my attention 4 ways and not lose track of details or surroundings, so I am somewhat well and truly screwed.
Best of luck gents.

Heh, awesome. On a vaguely similar note, I've found that if you combine random things that a cherished female likes into one awkward phrase, it becomes the cutest nickname ever. Nevermind that it makes no sense. Examples that have worked for me include:
Baby pear
Lemon cupcake
Cuteness bee
|
Worship me. |

Hey, I just stumbled upon your article and I must admit that it's really accurate!!!!
But for me it's more when I play video games, where I don't even have more that 1% of my brain focused on her (just enough to realize she's sprouting some meaningless words and phrases from her mouth, and that I'll soon get a scowl )
As for painting & modelling, I have no problem following (or leading) a conversation... This shall stay a mystery, I guess... Unless some dark Magos Biologis out here knows about the male psyche....
@Lord Maleval: doesn't work for me... When she's intensely reading a book, whenever I say something, she calmly puts it down, takes a moment, always answers on purpose, waits for me to add something, and, reckoning that I don't, gets back to her book... Quite frustrating as well huh....
Anyway, Thx for the fun ladz!!

I would be the PITA and I greatly appreciate the hilarity of the obligatory 10% because I've had it pulled on me from: My youngest brother, my second youngest brother, my friend, and a boyfriend or two.
Saddest part is that I've done it to them and we've ALL done it to my mother, since we all congregate at my place for painting parties.

Another tip (perhaps I'll add it to the article) is to paint in the "family space". I got a TV tray and assembled some trolls while she was reading the other day and it worked just fine . But if I want to disappear to the basement to work on models... I'll be "neglecting" her within 30 minutes!
It's truly an art form that only comes with practice...

I actually automatically take this too far...
When I'm painting, if my door is open and I have no music on, my ears just open up, and suddenly I can hear everyone's conversations in the next few rooms of the house...
Then if someone comes in to tell me something, it's awkward because I already know what they're going to tell me, so I say it to them before they start speaking, and they say 'yeah,' and walk out kind of confused...
