Recently I had the sudden urge to do some Guard straight out of the box, no conversions (apart from the Lt), no fancy camo, plain Guard. Apokalypse.
I need more troops. Here the first batch I painted:
What do you think?

My thoughts exactly. Between the time that I saw the photo but before I read the words of your message, I presumed you had posted a pic of 'eavy Metal Guardsmen and wanted to know how to copy some aspect of the studio army.

Hey
Thanks for your kind words.
@Datadep5 : the fist is indeed from a Cadian metal officer
@bosstiz : depends on your definition of 'whole army'.
But I want to paint at least two more squads and some tanks..

Amazing work. That is the same scheme that I use for both the tanks and the guardsmen. I think standard cadians look awsome.

Super-sharp paintjobs, man - that's about as clean of a look on an army as you can get. (Unfortunately because of how good it is, though, it reminds me just how much I dislike the Cadian heads...that's certainly not your fault, though)

Where are all the vehicles, man? You call this Imperial Guard?
Seriously, though - this army is amazingly well-painted, and I wish I could paint nearly this well.

These are solid, solid paint jobs. You could have snuck these into a WD photoshoot, and no one would have noticed. Good on ya.
Are these part of a larger army, or just an apoc add-on to your marines?
I know you don't want to do any conversions, but you might want to clip the las cannon of the russ and put a HB there instead. I prefer massed AP firepower, as opposed to a mix of AT/AP.
Oh, and for the chimera, assemble the back gate first, and then glue the top of tank to that. When I last assembled mine, the tops always seemed warped. But if I glued the top the gate, it pulled the top into it's correct position, and it made the tank gap less. Hope that helps.

Hi guys.
Weekly update. Not a lot. 3rd squad finished:
Platoon Command missing vets primed:
Company Command melta gunner, demolitions specialist, and master vox converted and primed:
This week I'm gonna be busy painting them. Next week probably the platoon's Chimeras or I wait until I get an Airbrush and do heavy weapons instead. Will see.
Cheers

I thought that, "models supplied unpainted. Scenery, glue and paint not included. Contents may vary from those shown. painting and assembly required " meant just that. Perhaps you got a couple of lucky boxes,
Seriously though, nice job!
As said before, crisp clean but one thing is bugging me (a very little bit) and that is the platoon marking 5s. how did you do them? It looks a bit like you cut out the transfer and glued it on then painted it? Just a small thing and my computer is showing these guys at 3 to four times their actual height so it may not even be visible in real life.
Thought about putting down the nids and get my guard back out again until little voice in my head said, 'Remember the vows!!!!'.

1st Platoon (3 squads+ command) and company command finally done. Chimeras and heavy weapons squad ought to be next.
Ultimate goal for this year are two more platoons infantry and a awful lot of tanks.

I think they're actually better than the HM version.
1. Because the highlights are softer,
2. Because the shading isn't in 13 trillion stages.

We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.

He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Nicely done. Lots of character. Is the plan to have it mostly mooks and tanks or are you going to add special elements (kasrkin, vets, etc.)?
Not that there's anything wrong with mooks and tanks, mind you...
