Gib Drib spread his golden plumage and squawked his spell of change.Ripples of chaos magic
swarmed over the ranks of the impetuous deamonetes who had come down his street to steal
his secret scrolls of knowledge. The she devils screamed in the ecstasy of torture as
their bodies warped and merged. The heads of the deamonette heralds literally exploding
as teenztchian tendrils crawled out their necks and consumed their black hearts.

The mighty change lord cackled gleefully seeing his master spell working so well.
The once proud slaneesh daemons were now warped and merged like two blue horrors into one
pink, except these creatures were never meant to be so twisted. Body and soul they were
sliced and merged into centaur like creatures of Gib Drib’s will.

P’tarix and Xirat’p speed to the scene, eager to write down the details of this
new and powerful enchantment. Quarrelling and bickering they set about recording the
effectiveness of Gib Drib’s grand unmaking. Tzeench himself will be most interested in
their detailed report.

Such fantastic success only served to drive Gib Drib deeper into madness and thirst for
knowledge.

Well, from a competitive perspective, could you make Gol Drib into Kairos Fateweaver? You seem to be focusing on overloading the magic phase with a minor counter-attack element from the experiment victims...and nobody does overloading the magic phase like Kairos.

That said, I'd be interested in seeing how well the all-flying mage squads do. Seems pretty strong, at least for VP conservation. I'd say another Chariot w/Herald is probably better than the Blue Scribes.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Thanks for the feedback. Much apprechiated.

Another Herald with chariot is more than 2x the cost of the scribes.

Fate weaver is only 35pts more than Gib Drib and is massively better in magic...

Competitively you are right Kairos is a no brainer.

A more competive list might look like this.

3x 10 horrors

1x 4 fiends

3x 5 furies (For march blocking, screening and redirecting charges)

Kairos

Hearld w mastery, chariot, BSB and helfire

Herald with mastery and chariot

blue scribes.

1991 pts

Not so sure I want to give up my fluff though.

If I wanted to field a one headed LOC and state he had the point cost and abilities of Kairos how do you guys think people would react?

You know...those furious could become a unit of Flesh Hounds...

Incredibly non-fluffy, but brutal.

Sigh....

If I keep listening to you 40k no one will want to play with me....

LOL

The real main reason I might not go for the kairos alternative is that it might not be fun for people to play against. Folks want to get into CC with thier armies and I think many would be kinda put off with an army that did nothing but fly around and wack the tar out of them every magic phase. You have to try to keep it fun.

I think relying on Kairos is a mistake.

He can fly around and cast magic but if he ever gets caught in close combat he is dead!

And if you are going up against flyers they can fly as fast as you.

The 3+ ward is good but you only have 1 attack at ws1 with S5 T5. LOC has WS6 S6 T6 and 5 attacks. Harder to hit and but once hit easier to fail a 5+ ward save.

Versus High elves you have to watch dragon armour as flaming to attacks will have no affect. And then if they have Bolt throwers they can use multiple shots and eventually you are going to fail your ward save.

The worst for Kairos will be close combat. Outnumber, banner, ranks versus 1 attack and he will face a Daemonic Instability Test. And if he fails he takes extra wounds in one round he could be dead.

The biggest opponents that would go after him are brets (pegasus), fast calv, VC (Danse threat), Chariots, With Ogres showing a good backup plan with impact guts.

If one unit can catch him long enough for another unit to charge in with support he will be gone too easily. So I would watch out for this.

Keep me posted on what you encounter either way!

I'm not sure what manner of movement Kairos is undertaking that he's getting threatened with charges, but even if you end your movement phase in such a way that a unit is threating a charge, it's still Kairos Fateweaver in a Tzeentch list!

I can't see a unit of Peg knights even being alive after staring him down for a magic phase, what with all Brets dispel dice coming from magic resistance on the charaters, who can't join a flying unit. VC aren't going to get the Dance off, and Kairos if going to be moving in such a way that to even have a shot at him they need to turn away from everyone else and pray for unstoppable force. Chariots will get Bolt of Changed. Ogres...I guess any kind of magic missile will do for them.

The ordinary Lord of Change may be adequate in close combat, but someone is just going to put cannon balls through him. It's just not worth it to abandon the extra magic power for close combat ability that you don't want to use anyway. If you want a flyer who CC's get a thirster.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

I agree with 40k here. The purpose of an LOC is magic not combat. The fact that an LOC can hold off an small squimish force is a bonus but does not make up for the much stronger magic and improved warmachine resistance of Kairos, for a LOWER COST no less.
