i was in need of your help with Captain Shrike.

Never found a way to get him balanced, he always kept falling on his face or back. Now,with some advice this is solved.

1) How do you fix full metal mini's when their weight is on top of them? Got answers thanks a lot!

2) How to fix his Backpack without filling the gap between Jumppack and power armor? <===

Suggestions to 2) most welcome!

Some times adding weights under the base can help to balance things up.

Ive not made the Shrike model so im not sure of the specifics of that one

@ grandmaster: hes a SM with jumppack darting forwards.

@ quietus86: really worked on this specific model?

Thanks for replies

The "shrike" problem is: he is using a full metal jumppack and has LC's,makes him heavy in his upper half.
Whilst he moves forward and has a interesting pose with spread arms,he also lacks groundcontact.
The original base is not big enough to counter this with weights.

Should i expand his base and make him a showcase-model ( only gw-supported base in 5th)
or exchange his metal jumppack with a plastic one and add weight to the lightened model?

Take the metal slot at his base and bend it 90 degrees so that it is flat to the top of the base. Put some superglue and/or greenstuff around where the bend is to reinforce it. Then glue it to a plain base like you'd get with a plastic marine. For a counterweight, glue a nickel to the bottom of the base.

If you put it on the non-supplied base you could still use it, only with your opponent's consent.

@ Foda_Bett : Termie base may help, if I can use it undisputed.

@Death By Monkeys :
Ive thought of counterweights, but he's topheavy and what I can fix under a standard base won't do. :S

I should combine greater base with weight to fix him. thanks!

Cpt shrikes disadvantage is his pose:
I'll have to place him in a 75° position or he looks like he's been shot and sprawling backwards.

Will try to stop his stumbling

@ Mekboy : I have already done a Raven Guard Cpt with LC and Jumppack before GW made shrike so
it possible to use another mini ( must forfeit his specials then) as HQ.

Why not get a standard plastic jumppack and load him up with that? Replace the metal one. If the metal one has cool iconography on it, you can always make GS molds of it and put the icons onto the plastic jumppack.

Shrike has the most iconographic jumppack available. Not easy to copy.
His raised arms and shoulderguards are to close at his Jumppack.
As a 2 piece mini there was no way in reposing his arms without losing
to much detail.

I'll have to paint whats on his metal JP to a plastic one. :S

Alterately, mount him on the normal 25mm base. Decorate accordingly.
Then glue this to a 40mm termi base in such a fashion that it corrects the imbalance.

In game, measure to the 25mm base, and let your opponant put models on the 40 for melee etc. Basically, just ignore the bigger base.

Another option is to get some lead from spent bullets, cut it up, and glue it to the base as "rubble". You will however need a lot. Unless you can get spent uranium. Maybe if you travel to former Bloc states...

good idea,"sandwich-bases" for legal use in 5th.

Spent uranium will make him a shiny model

Had never lack in bitz. Enough Metal parts to get some weight.
Made the mistake to build him "out of the blister", not thinking about changes to save him a fate as shelf-mini.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Or along those lines - stack a couple 25mm bases with nickels glued under them to get the counterweight you need.

try to glue him to a cardboard stand under his normal base with normal paper glue it wont look pretty but it will work as long as you dont bend the cardboard. you can base the cardboard to.

A friend of mine uses heavy, metal washers from hardware stores on the bottom of his bases. Seems to work a treat.

use the larger base (you can use larger bases, but not smaller @ least in 4th edition), get some 1.5 inch fender washers (they have a smaller hole than regular washers) and super glue a couple or so to the bottom of the larger base. you can use green stuff or similar product to make the washers and base look like one piece.

good luck

Balance problems with Shrike?

He doesn't have an invulnerable save, and in 5th, with no consolidating into another...

Oh, wait...

The washer under the base has worked well for me!

Guess I should've clarified that he was a Chaos Lt. for a Word Bearers LATD army I had before they vanished. Balance issues still applied though.
