Adolescent Youth on Ultramar

Just want to say a quick hi to all.

I am very green to the whole world of WH40K,but i find it sure a break from reality for a few hours.

I visited the local GW in the Bull Ring Birmingham about 3 ago just to see what it was all about. The Manager came over and gave me a little background details of the Space Marines and he walked me through a mini game. I really enjoyed the game as i beat him...probably beginers luck

After the game he asked if i was interested in taking up the hobby and he handed me a 10 peice SM Tactical Squad and a starter paint kit. I deceided to go for the Ultra Marine design as i didnt know any other colour schemes or other varients available. Took me a couple of weeks to paint up....and TBH the look poo lol. Little did i know that the Blue i used wasnt the Ultra Marine Blue

So

I went out and bought Battle For Macragge and loads of correct paints this time and thought OMG what have i got myself in to. After painting nearly 30 models i have been going through Codex: Space Marines, i really want to change from Ultra Marines...i just dont think i could go through the hastle again.

So... Here i am 2 years later and im getting back into the whole WH40k. Im really enjoying the whole experience again.....Im nearly 30 and this really is a great hobby.

I am a huge Dawn of War and Comand & Conqure fan. I am a very tactical player and i hope my gaming style will rub off on my Table Top Gameplay.

The only thing im having a hard time with is the back history and all the technical stuff you lot go on about...its all over my head, please go easy on me as i will have a million questions and they have probable been asked before.

Well thats me and i would like to hear from some of you. Any hints and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Peter

Welcome to dakka, I hope you find some good info here

I dont want to spoil it for you, but GW employees are generally expected to let new people win their first game as part of the sales pitch - you might have won regardless anyway

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!

God's own city of Glasgow

How disappointing - there was me thinking I had pulled off a glorious victory in GW Glasgow! Och well, I'll get over it - a win is a win after all!

Welcome to dakka GodsHammer, enjoy your gaming. The history/fluff side of things becomes less confusing with time - and the dakka glossary is a big help!

Good guys go to heaven.

Bad guys send them there.

Welcome!

You've come in at an exciting time. The new edition is about to be released, so a lot of people are retooling thier armies, and are painting new units, etc.

Make sure you check out Dakka's articles: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Articles

There's a lot of collected wisdom there, and a good deal of inspiration. Don't be shy about putting pics of your models up. People will give honest critques, and help with any painting/modelling challenges you might be experiencing.

Good luck!

40k is about slamming two slegdehammers together and hoping the other breaks first. Malifaux is about fighting with scalpels trying to hit select areas and hoping you connect more.
