my mate and me finally got ourselves motivate enough to start building a decent board
we were both very impressed with just a days work, so i though i might share it on dakka, my first thread
its divided into 3 parts for storing/transporting purposes each about 24" x 48"
we screwed foamboards onto thin scrap wood(for want of a better word, my englisch isn't the best ) for stiffness and support. the big mountains (which are glued to the base) and the smaller terrain pieces (which are moveable) are made of the same foam board as the base. every surface has gotten (or is in the process of getting ) covered with filler to close gaps, give some stucture and to prepare for painting. here are some pics, enjoy

Looking really good ^_^.
It's always good to keep some terrain elements movable so you can vary up the terrain a bit from game to game. You can also just keep adding small pieces to the board as time goes on. Your board will never truly be complete!
Are you going to texture the surfaces at all? I'd highly recommend it. It'll give your board that additional detail that you'll really appreciate once you've put a drybrush to it during the painting phase!

I assume the "blue" areas are just frozen ice with no snow coverage? otherwise, alot of that board would be hard to traverse..

Some insulation foams come in a blue color. I believe they're made of a denser foam than pink insulation foam, but I could be wrong there.

I get those as well - virus scanner shows they are some browser hijacker. I'd avoid going to the site.

sieek - very nice, I will follow with interest as I wanted to make my own canyon board.
Point of recommendation:
Try to make it as scale-neutral as possible. Aeronautica Imperialis and a canyon make for good times...
