Hello,
Meet...
The Emperor’s Heavenly Sword of Divine Mercy...
I would like to paint my Defense laser white with gold filigree/details. I want it to look like a holy gothic weapon of “mercy”
I’ll appreciate any advice on this matter. I was told to try: Grey base coat, light white coat, wash with black or brown.
Thank you for your time and input.
Sluggie McSlugg

This is one of the most impressive superheavies I've ever seen. Then again, is this small enough to be considered "superheavy"? hahaha
I think there might be a larger class, or so I've heard.
In any case, excellent work.

As I clicked on this thread, and the picture loaded the following words came out of my mouth:
"Mother of god, that is the most awesome model I have ever seen"
That thing is KILLER.
Just awesome, just completely, completely awesome.
Totally fits the theme of Apocalypse.
I'm not really familiar with the 40k Superheavies from Epic or the videogames, so is this a custom created super heavy or is it based something from a 40k computer game or maybe Epic?

it sound like you want it white cant give much advise their but if you want a cool gothic looking worn out threw time kinda of deal heres what i would paint it:
1.give the whole model a basecaot black(to late i suppose for that one)
2.ink it with badab black or just black ink
3.drybrush boltgun metal
4.give it a wash of 50/50 orangy color(any will do i preffer vomit brown) h2o
5.drybrush 50/50 chaos black and boltgun metal
6.drybrush boltgun metal
7. highlight mithril silver
8. badab black wash
9.add gold trimming to any details
10. ink the gold with 40/15/45 chestnut ink, brown ink, h20
11. highlight gold with brazen brass(very lightly and just in certain areas near bottom)
12. paint any insignias, skulls all that and then add weathering effects,
to do any detail just use your best judgment, i know this may not be what your looking for but since no one has replied id thought id atleast throw something out their.
any way you paint good luck and show some piks!

If the trim/details are going to be gold, I would suggest the white be washed with a warm color, not cool. Stay away from blues and greens and work with earthtones. This will complement the gold and give the vehicle an overall antiqued look. Try some test panels primed white then wash with bestial brown, scorched brown, or other earthtones.
As you have such a huge area to cover, I would make some magic wash with some paint and a lot of Future floor polish. Brush it on and allow it to fill the recesses then dab up excess with a paper towel from the raised details. After it has dryed, drybrush the model up through bleached bone to warm off white, then paint the gold details.

If more of us valued food and cheer and 40K over hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. |

Almighty Emporer! that's a huge bit....errr...beast! What components did you use to construct the barrel? I believe you have your work cut out for you.
As far as painting goes, on such large and magnificent artifacts of the Imperium, I always think there should be some red on the outside. A prideful symbol that the Mechanicus (duh) had quite a hand in it's creation in addition to a nod to the Omnissah.
If you are able to, check out the 4 brown/yellow color based Citadel Washes. I bet they'll make this baby look real pretty!

If you want filigree, I'd suggest penciling it on first, while looking at something else with lots of filigree (Hint: Imperial Russia) and then painting over with gold as a last step in the painting process.
Post more porn... err pics when you're done.

Thank you all for your most excellent replies and advice!
@ CplPunishment: Ha! Not sure… But it is smaller than a warlord and bigger than a warhound.
@ Lagduf: The design is custome and the stats can be found here: http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1180090_Imperial_Guard_Datasheet_-_Defence_Laser.pdf
@ ArmoredReaper: I can hit it with a black under coat… after that, I am scared!
@ Krak_kirby: Aye, I was thinking washes. I like the paper towel trick.
@ VermGho5t: I used PVC, Bottle caps, plastic-card, syringe, and green stuff. I am trying to get a game store to sponsor another one. If I can get them to give me the stuff, I’ll take WIP pic’s.
@ Le Grognard: I can’t wait to see it either.
@ H.B.M.C.: we’ll come visit… more Ausie babes in you area!
@ Valhallan42nd: I got’s 2 big brushes and not a clue!
@ Deadshane1: Be careful friend, The Emperor is watching
@ Sleazy: Originally I was going to plastic-card the sides. Then I saw I had a sector and factory boxes I figured I would never get to using… so I adjusted fire and after my bro donated some items I needed, Boom! There it is!
@ Eisenkeil: Wait for it! Waaaiit… Foooorr… Iiit…
@ HFJor: Thanks!
@ Flachzange: The turret is just a center magnet, that way I have options. A few guys and I figured with a little effort, I can use this as a Leviathan or something similar.
@ CrimsonTurkey: A Local gamer also recommended Imperial Russia! I’ll check it out!

@ Death By Monkeys: 10” x 22” x 22” Size Ref:
@ Alpharius: I think it looks harder than it was. Then toughest part was planning the layout because I build as a go. I do start with a sketch… but in the end, it never looks like the sketch.
@ CrimsonYurkey: That second one is jackpot! I actually want a mural of a space battle on the side of the main gun. Along the bottom will be a planet with space above hosting a field of stars and ships blasting each other.
@ Plank of Wood: Ha! Thanks, but you might want to look around
@ Aduro: I hear that a lot… but usually only after I drop my trousers.
@ Syr8766: It is pretty light considering the size. It is also very sturdy because of the layering, think box upon box. Nope, I just tote everything to the local game shop.
@ Quietus86: Bane Blade x2, WH Chapel x4, Imp sector and a bunch of smaller box sets. I just spoke with a black shirt at the LA Battle Bunker and he is going to see if they want to sponsor another one of these for the store. If they do, I will take lots of WIP pics and post them as I go. The DL is immobile, I just put the tracks on for fluff… to justify why the “Sword of Mercy” is on a moon or in a forest.
Scouts out!

I second the earth tone wash. The other way that sprang to mind was a grey undercoat and then give it loats of light sprays with white spray from an angle to build up to white, then add the details.
