Here is my first Nid Warrior, testing a color scheme. Need to touch up/shade the green a bit more, but other than that this will be the scheme. Thoughts/feedback welcome:

I really like this color scheme (and the paint job ^_^). It's very muted compared to most 'Nids that I've seen, but I think that the effect is quite nice.

My center is giving way, my right is in retreat; situation excellent. I shall attack.

Yeah, I liked the Nids when they were more sentient and less bug. Nothing against it, as I've seen bug schemes that look great, but I always disliked bright carapace/patterned carapace. Perhaps it's due to debating why Nids would evolve a brightly patterned carpace...

Anyways, thanks for the feedback.

Their general run forward en masse doesn't really lend itself well to a camouflage, especially given they tend to eat most of the local flora anyways. However lots of bright coloration, assuming all the `Nids in the army shared the same colors, would make it harder for the enemy to pick out individual/important targets.

That and they probably don't care one way or another and the colors just end up random.

Excellent color scheme. The purple really pops against the bone color. Outstanding bone texture too, especially on the rear talon shot. If you wouldn't mind parting with the secret, I'd appreciate some hints on how you got that realistic carapace look.

Dude, you just get props for using purple! I like the look, but it's really the color that did it for me.

I'm not sure about the eyes, I like them white the way they are, but I feel like there should be more to them... I dunno, don't listen to me, just keep up the good work.

God, now I feel like I shouldn't have typed anything at all, but that would mean my post is pointless, and THAT means that I should delete it, but I just can't stop typing and I'm not gonna.

So when we gonna see the rest of them?

Thanks,

MegaDave

I like.

Did you use a dirty rag for that effect on the carapace? Or dirty water drybrushing?

Yes, I've done that...

Yes, but if they were all a dull color it would be equally difficult to pick out specific targets. I believe the majority of insects evolved bright colors for mating (Pick me!) but I'm not a evolutionary biologist. Regardless, their size still poses a problem (Shoot the big ones, not the bright colored ones). The only concept that ever made sense to me was that the first bugs that developed bright spots were picked out in shooting, which led the Hive to intelligently design more to soak up shots (But if they were all equally bright, this effect would be canceled). Anyways, not to turn this into a intelligent design/evolution thread...

Nice, I've always thought that pure white eyes somehow worked with nids. Thats how I do mine not because of laziness honest.

Also as a huge small bonus, classic stealers could work with this scheme!!!!!!!!! Do it.

Very cool paintjob OP. If I were you though, I'd go with a purple carapace, the white/pink combo didn't quite appeal to me. Still the paintjob is impeccable.

Wouldn't the intelligent thing to do be to simply nix the whole "brighter colors" concept from the get-go, much like you're doing with your paint scheme? I think what you're doing is much closer to what a "natural" Tyranid would look like. On Earth, insects have bright colors to 1)mate and 2)warn or confuse predators. Neither of these really seem very Tyranid-like, considering they're always the predator.

In short....I like the scheme. It looks good.
