Crazed Spirit of the Defiler

Hi guys and gals.

I have decided to do a running log of getting my chaos army ready for this year's GT> I usually speed paint stuff (to an ok standard) but I'm gonna take a little more time here.

I'm cheating a bit as I have a fullypainted army ready so if I dont finish anything I can just replace with painted stuff. Hopefully i'll get it all done though.

As I said, I have around 5k points of painted chaos so far. 1.5k more is surely a good thing?!?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just placed my FW order for far too much money so I can't do the tanks and stuff till all the extra bling comes through.

What I will be painting is this:

Brass Scorpion (will be used as a defiler!) - Done - 16/7

10 Word Bearer CSM.. *Done - 09/07!!

8 Deathguard * done - 13/7

Deathguard Rhino

Word Bearer Rhino x2

Tzeentch Demon Prince

Kharn

10 FW Berserkers - Pretty much done

Predator

World Eater Rhino - Done

Word Bearer Land Raider

Slaanesh Lash Prince (converted from a Be'lakor model)... High hopes for this one as mate is converting it and looking shweet so far!! - Nearly done

8 Khorne Raptors converted using FW bits, greenstuff and some sort of flying stuff.

------------------------------------------------------------

Any C&C at all really appreciated... I will post pics later today whilst at work of the first stages

-------------------------------------------------------------

First set of Pics:

Finished Nurgle DP:

Word Bearer CSM covered in scrolls/books/anything I could find:

Forgeworld Berserkers:

Berserker Aspiring Champion with GS face Mask

Deathguard:

Brass Scorp:

First Colour Test (ignore painting, this is a very rough guide on old models- just getting armour colours really):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First 4 generic CSMs done. What do people think?

Generally quite happy with how they are turning out so far. Semi-quick painting them though so will have more time for all the big stuff

C&C Always appreciated

Also, quick question. Can people see the pics? Im at work and the site is blocked by our facist network admins but I think they should work.

Those 4 first generic CSM's look real good. Also I like your Nurgle DP. It has a sufficient amount of nurglyness while still retaining a very "clear" look.
Looking forward to see those primed guys painted!

Very very nice. I like the scheme, was gonna use the same tone of red and bone for my kroot. The DP is also awesome.

Thanks for the comments guys... Got a lot to do before November.

I still havn't decided whether to do the bone style or the classic green for my deathguard. I have one unit already painted green (who will be coming along).

I also have a set of the FW deathguard used as bikers which look pretty sweet. I will get some pics up tonight/tomorrow hopefully. No painting tonight due to RL stuff but wifey is out tomorrow evening so should get a few hours in and hopefully get most of the CSM unit done.

Picking my first of 3 FW orders up from a friend's house tonight so will probably do Nurgle Marines & their Rhino next. I struggle with painting tanks so I need to think of a different way to do it. I may even sweet talk my friend to do the base colours with his uber airbrush.

I've always loved Word Bearers and you've just made them super tasty! The bone shoulder pads with the script on them is a nice touch.

Digging that paint scheme, those first four dudes are solid in my book. Great for Word Bearers, and OSL eyes ftw. Big Nurgle looks good too.

Luck with your horde of black-primed maniacs. What list you building towards?

I really like the green glow effects on the helmeted test CSMs. You've executed it really well.

Will be putting an update up tonight with 3 more Word BEarers(incl. champ), Nurgle FW bikers and a 1k Sons sorc.

I ask myself why I decided to OSL all the eyes in a 40 marine army.... It is quite literally driving me insane! I have done 3 sets so far (well 2 and im doing one as we speak!!!!)

I so want to do some Nurgle Bikers, but old school fluff keeps me from doing it. Nice bikers, and the DP is awesome; looking forward to seeing the Plague Marines.

First Plague Marine WIP Armour (wash is drying so i'm bored and took photo)

Looks a little "clean" at the moment but will sort that with lots of gribble later.

So, here's the current list. Now in a vague order so I can get a little organised with Schedules.

1) 10 Word Bearers - Done

2) 8 Plague Marines - Started 8/7

3) Brass Scorpion

4) Assemble:
4 Rhinos
Predator
Land Raider
Convert Dread

5) Paint Deathguard Rhino

6) Paint Word Bearer Rhino

6.5) Paint Slaanesh Prince

7) Paint New Land Raider

8) Paint Berserkers

9)Paint World Eater Rhino

10) Paint Predator

11) Paint 1k sons

12 ) Paint Dread

EEp, it's a lot^^

The shoulder pads on the World Bearers are the best part. This should do well in the painting scores.

Ok the heat is, as they say, on!

I have 2 practice tournaments before the GT. One on 2/3rd August and one at the end of August.

For the 2/3rd one this is what I still have to paint *(in order of importance):

8 Deathguard
Paint Brass Scorp
Assemble & paint Word Bearer Rhino
Assemble & paint Deathguard Rhino
Paint Slaanesh Lash Prince
-----------------------------------------
Assemble *& Paint predator
Paint FW Berserkers
Assemble *& paint Berserker LR

Quite a lot! Anything before the line is essential, after I would like to complete but can replace iwth ohter stuff.

Way I am thinking for schedule is this:

DG by the end of this week
Brass Scorpion next week 14/87
Assemble Rhinos at the weekend
Paint Rhinos week starting 21/7
Paint Lash Prince week starting 28/7 (if I'm lucky)

Pretty tight schedule but pressure is always a good motivator!

Ok, first 4 DG WIP.

Armour/metal done. Rusty metal seems to photo rubbish but looks much better than photo.

As always, wash is wet (when I take WIPs).

Need to do glowy eyes, shoulder pads, detailing and gribble

Ok, first 4 done minus the gribble and a few details:

Gribble and stuff added * Note that I re-blended the eye glow on 3 of the models since the pic makes them look too sharp a transition... They look better now

I'm assuming the Berzerkers are going to be all crimson?

This way your primary WBs are crimson & bone, the DG are bone, and KB are crimson, so the army ties together nicely around the WB color core.

What an awesome idea!

I hadn't really decided on Zerkers yet. Was going to do them dark grey bodies and blood heads. May try your idea though!

Thanks..

Thanks for all the comments guys... Much appreciated and motivating!

All my Forgeworld stuff has now arrived so I can start on the tanks and such.

It really is a lot of painting but I'm enjoying it (for now). Both the word bearers, and the deathguard (well, the half that is painted ) have been really fun to paint as I have been trying new things on them. I became quite disillusioned with painting models as I was speed painting them... Actually spending a decent amount of time/thought on something with an end result in mind has been really good.

@ Lycan: Yup, never tried it before but I'm quite happy with the results.

As a side note, the new washes make life so much easier... No more medium mixing needed. They take away some control of consistency but it's more than made up for by the fact you don't have to spend time mixing up washes.

Will be starting the last 4 DG tonight and hopefully have them done (depending on wife aggro) by the end of the weekend.

Then it's Brass Scorpion time!! (tm)
