i started to rebuild my tau army and have been for a while now. since back before the roumers of 5th ed were out.

i got to basing some of them, and dicided that they looked really urbanish (what i am shooting for) if they were standing on a pice of cork on thier base.

i dont want to make it look like i am modeling my army to be taller then some things so i can get better LOS or whatever (true LOS is pissing me off) in fact, i plan on having all of my models mounted to be standing on a pice of cork. even my crisis suits.

o and another thing i am worried about is when i modeled the crisis suits, i choped the lower part of the leg off and fliped it around. now it is 10 times easier to make more poses. like crouching, kneeling, jumping, climbing on something, smashing a marine in the face ect ect... but i have been told that makeing ANY of them crouching of kneeling is a cheep cheesy way to hide them easier.

i just like the way they look when the legs are like that. it makes the model look more fluid in its movement IMO.

anyways, just thought i would get a cheese factor from dakkadakka so i can press onward with this, or if i should do without the cork.

If it really bothers you, you can....

A) have a stand-in. Easier for the fire warriors than for the suits, but basically build one model that's standing in the most boring, upright pose that you possibly can on a completely flat base. When checking LOS, plop that guy down next to your model and look from him instead, so you get the "standard" height.

B) let your friends know your intentions. To be honest, crisis suits would be the least of my worries - with shield drones and gun drones to take hits and the chance to jump behind a line of your own troops, there's so many chances for them to get 4+ saves without needing to squat behind a building that I wouldn't start to suspect someone of cheating really.

But either way, if you make a model lower, while getting cover more easily [and technically not really as if your foot is covered you get cover regardless right?], you also will more easily give cover to anyone on higher ground.

My Grey Knight army is going ahead as planned and being modeled on cork-embellished bases.

I think unless there is an OBVIOUS attempt at gaining an advantage, there is no problem.

I dont see people actually getting bent out of shape at a single layer of cork to make our models look nicer....if theres a question as to whether I have line of sight and its questionable enough that my oppenent begins to blame the added 1/8th or so inch that the cork grants...I just wont take the shot. No biggie.

I have never failed to seize on 4+ in my life!

Just beware paranoia. Someone losing and pitching a fit may and probably will suddenly declare that your models are modelled to get a height advantage and that you're a dirty cheater - cuz that's why they're losing, obviously.

See this is the thing about gaming on many fronts, I game to have fun and if someone complains that my leader for my guardians is standing on a rock using a Dire Avenger helm, I just tell em to grow up, play by page 5, (which some times has people opening the warhammer book and looking at me funny) or just quit playing since they aren't having fun. (After all I dont know about you but I play games to have fun)

The end is never really the end, its the start of something new.

Everytime whiny players complain about creative basing that is obviously there to make the model look better and not there for an advantage need to be refered to "the most important rule"!

Yeah, don't see the problem if you are playing people who aren't really whiny. I am also generous when it comes to playing the TLOS, as some models (like firewarriors) are modelled crouching and some are modelled standing. I usually play with my friends that a model could stand/crouch so just use a "normal" model as a stand-in for models that are converted in a cool way. Otherwise my steel-legion heavy bolter teams have a really hard time seeing anyone, as they are lying down!

Remember that its a two way street. If the models are "taller", not only will they be able to draw line of sight easier, but other models will be able to draw line of sight to them easier.

You should model some lying down and firing to prevent any possible arguments while gaming.
