I know I cannot model or paint without having some kind of ambient music to listen to. I normaly pick some thing some what repetitious since that seems to help me focus on my work but still helps bring out creativity. I know I am not the only one who does this so what do you all listen to while you paint and model?

Rock for me. Cause well thats pretty much the music that keeps me going. Without my music (espeicaly Rock) I would totally just die. When painting it really helps to stay alive I would think.

The War of the Worlds double album works nicely for me. I've listened to it so many times over the years that it lulls me right into a relaxed, detached mindframe.

I play all sorts of stuff when I paint, but generally its a load of Disturbed's albums since they get me in a good frame of mind to get jobs done.

Failing that i'l flick the radio onto BBC Radio 4 (THE only good station we get around here where the public arn't treated as idiots).

Personally, I'm very fond of Progressive Metal. That takes up at least 80% of the music I listen to while painting. Well, that and Death/Metalcore.

It might kill part of the whole "focus factor" thing, but at least it's compelling, and it also really good for helping me come up with new ideas while modeling and painting (especially considering that I'm a Chaos junkie). Hell, I'll even go ahead and credit the band Necrophagist for both the conversions and paint scheme on my Death Guard army.

If I'm in a late night painting grind, I'll probably be blasting the Grindcore or, at the very least, Death Metal. Better than coffee, I tell you.

I'm also very partial to Industrial music, but it's surprisingly rare on my painting playlist. Not quite as much of a mind opener, and it doesn't keep you going nearly as well.

Metal is pretty good for not paying attention to and just providing ambient sound.

Generic rock is usually what I listen to lately.

The Punk-O-Rama compilations never get old for me, and as a huge fan of compilations I have to say that the boys down at Epitaph Records are Ninjas when it comes to having ears for finding Classics with solid melodies. Besides, the comps are cheap! $5 or $6 for an hour or 2 is rad! Also been listening to some Producer stuff, like RJD2 or Madlib touches is gold. Madlib has a great sense of texture and maximizes on the things that we associate with the funk and blues movements to really just drive home the sensations that I look for in those genres. Madlibs "Shades of Blue" is a fabulous album where he was comisioned by Blue Note records (2 german expatriots back in the 50's that started the most pivitol Blues label on the planet) to take old Blue Note tracks and remix them in a turn-tablist fashion. Good stuff!
Good Speed Black Emperor, Silver Mt Zion, Fly Pan Am and the books are great for some alternative ambient action thet leave you with a slight post-apocalyptic feel that may just inspire you to rip the windshield off fo yoru car, replace it with expanded metal, mount a machien gun on the hood and stock up on non-parishable within your new found bunker fo a garage.

If it's during the day I'll listen to something softer like some rockabilly or prog rock, but if I'm tired and trying to grind some stuff out I'll bust out the prog metal (Opeth, Kamelot, Symphony X) or some 90's rock (Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana)

Iron Maiden throughout the whole Toegnasher build. I usually find a band or 2, and then stick with it through the whole project. I built and painted a trukk boy unit before that to Neko Case and Kaki King. My tastes are eclectic.

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

It's cool to see I am not the only one who feels as though they work better with a little music to urge them on. Lately for me I have been listening to older rock for something steady i.e. George Thorogood, Led Zepplin, and Buffalo Springfield. I have an extremely ecclectic tatste in music especially while modeling or painting.

I um generally listen to B.Lustmord, Autechre, Smashing Pumpkins, Demons and Wizards, Tiesto, some Benassi, Oakenfold, some Bowie too. I've been looking for some good Zombie killing music, but have yet to find anything that suits my taste. It's weird, I used to listen to a lot of rock, but have listened to a lot more electric music over the last 5 years.
