Subject: Is there ANY use for Sam Machorne & the Devil Dogs?

So in a moment of weakness maybe two years ago I got Sam Machorne & Co. They're sitting, unpainted, unloved, in the box. Waiting.
Every now and again I see a Talon blister at the FLGS and I consider painting them up, and then I look at their card again.
Am I missing something? Is there I use here that I'm not seeing with some caster? Or should I ebay these guys and pray I get something for them?
EDIT: name spelling etc.

They're okay in an Ashlynn list with a Mule. But you might be better off using Dirty Meg for that. I don't have them, so I can't offer that perspective, but I do know I don't fear them when my opponent brings them.

Thanks Oomie. Yeah. I've played against the DDs a couple of times with Irusk and wasn't impressed (they were not being used to 'jack marshal in those lists), and I have seen Meg marshal a Nomad to pretty good effect (though my Driller was making short work of it/them).
Anyone have any experience playing with them in a positive way?

I used them a few times (mostly against Oomie,) and all I can say is I never figured out how to use them. I wanted to, but I could just never pull anything successful off.
So now they sit, unpainted and missing a few bases I needed for other models. And that's how they will likely remain for a long tim.

Well, that settles it. They're going on the auction block. Too bad, they are pretty sculpts...

People keep hoping that the Devil Dogs and Boomhowler get something to make them worth fielding. I guess if you want to field a pretty army that gets beat a lot, they'd be worth it.

Indeed. It still blows me away how many of the early merc units sucked or were easily supplanted by not much later releases. Boomhowler in particular, as many of the other Prime units are still ace (IFP, Zealots, etc.). It's almost like they didn't quite know what to do with these guys.

I was hoping that Boomhowler would 'go epic' and the Devil Dogs would get a unit or weapon attachment in Legends, sadly this isn't to be. both units have close fluff ties with Magnus and 4 Star syndicate but they're not worth buying.
How'd they work with a marshaled Mariner? That seems like a mutually beneficial combination to me.
