Hey. I'm going to be playing in a small 40k campaign using the Mighty Empires tiles soon. I want to use Thousand Sons, but i've never played them before so need to get some advice before I begin painting and modelling. I realize 800pts isn't a lot, but the points will increase throughout the campaign (up to about 1500).

Any thoughts?
Thanks,

General consensus is that a pure thousand sons army is strong versus MEQs but weak versus others.

Your really going to have to focus on getting people out of cover with a Tsons army. A possible list could look something like this.

Troops:
10x Tsons, Aspiring Sorc (doombolt) 300 pts.
10x Tsons, Aspiring Sorc (doombolt) 300 pts.

HQ:
DP, MoT, Wings, Warptime, Bolt of Change 200 pts.

As for the progression, how many points do you think is going to be added each time? Depending you could probably up your count to another Tsons squad or oblits. If you just want to be cheesy though, I'd say scrap the DP above for a Fzorgle DP. Use the extra points for whatever.

The painting will be tough if you want to go with the stock color scheme. Yellow sucks hard to paint. I'd suggest a black and gold scheme with some blues mixed in on the flat parts of the ceramite armor. That would look pretty good.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

Thanks a lot guys.

Firstly, I designed the campaign so that winning a battle grants you extra points to your army total, so it really varies depending on success. Taking some tiles will grant additional points and bonuses, so it really depends on how well I play.
Also, i'm not going with a conventional colour scheme. Instead of Yellow, i'm using a deep gold with about five layers. The robes on the models will be painted dark blue.

Initially I thought about taking a Predator, which would probably dominate any armour in an 800pts game. It is expensive, but I thought I'd stick it in cover and start scrapping transports/ battle tanks. Hmmm... a gold tank...

I'm really still finding my feet. I'll be facing Space Wolves, Death Guard and Tau, so Inferno Bolts should be useful. Any more thoughts would be lapped up.

I really should be spending my time more constructively.
