Subject: Direct fire ordinance, cover save question

This came up at my gaming store tonight and I figured it would be easier to tap into the distributed intelligence of Dakka than tracking down all the rules.
A direct fire ordinance shot from a russ scatters onto a unit of space marines.
-The marines who are hit are out of LoS behind vehicles with respect to the Russ (which the rule tell us is fine--they are still hit).
-The marines are in the open otherwise, not near any kind of area terrain or other cover.
-The marines are in the open with respect to the center hole of the blast marker's final position.
Do the marines get a cover save?

Draw a line from the gun to the unit with your handy dandy GW laser pointer. If the vehicles block LOS then they marines get cover saves, if not, they do not.

Page 21: "When any part of the target model’s body (as defined on page 16) is obscured from the point of view of the firer, the target model is in cover."
We are told that the ordnance can scatter out of LOS and still hurt things, however, nothing specifically overrides this rule, as 100% of the space marines' bodies are hidden by a friendly unit, they are entitled to a 4+ cover save.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

If the vehicle hides 50% or more of the models, the marines get a cover save. If the vehicle hides less than 50% of the models, they do not get a cover save.
