Subject: Chameleon skinks in a southlands list, yes or no?

due to high points cost they seem a little ott for a skink with higher BS, but with all of thier rules they could be fun to use, and fairly hard to kill (unless its against a magic heavy army)
other problem being is that it would take up a special choice, being a southlands list i needed to get some hard hitting units from the special ie; kroxigors, horned one riders and terradons.
also, another prob, this time with rare, since im going for 2,000 points i can take 2 rare, only rare choices being steggadon or salamanders (ogres? not sure if i can take em, if so, could be a fun convertion)
i was thinking of 2 steggys, but the points cost would be pretty nasty, then thought about 2 salamanders units (3 per unit) but even though it gives great fire, still lacks CC, as does taking 1 of each, ideas?

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I prefer normal scouting skinks over Chameleon skinks, in general.
Normal Skinks: Move and shoot once, hit on 6+.
Chameleon: Move and shoot twice, hit on 6+.
But you get 2x Normal skinks for the price of 1x Chameleon. And they can still often get off two shots anyway.
Defensively they give you twice as many wounds, too. Basically Chameleons are just too expensive.
And Skink-skinks are Core.

yea i have to agree with Tacobake's take on chameleon skinks. their cost outweighs the benefit. however if you ever do get into a game 4000pts and up then they could become useful for things like march blocking etc as they have the expert scouts rule, and at those points you don't mind dropping 75pts on 5 guys as much as you do in a normalish sized list.

thanks for the input, i just love the models, but, due to points and the fact they take up a special slot i think its best not to take em, one spell and it would be easy points in a game.
thanks.
i think ill spend the points on another kroxigor or a terradon or 2 lol

i know, i use em mainly for warmachine killing, or smalling skirmishing units, or, if im against someone with a weak army ie; elf, empire, ill use them for picking on thier general, its worth losing 200 or so points to kill thier general.

I like Terradons. I think Salamanders are better from a pure damage perspective but Terradons are fun.

i know taco, in my 3,000 point southlands army i use ive got 2 packs of 3 salamanders, its amazing to watch as all of them fire at a nice big unit
12 - 60 shots a turn!
but also runs the risk of doing nothing and killing loads of skinks lol (a price im willing to pay)

sallies are great, but having terradons and sallies is the best way to go

i know, if a large unit is geting too close to my slann i generally blast them with the sallies then charge in with the terradons and krox to make sure they die lol

i'd simply charge them with my slaans block (should be temple guard) and crush them in one simple combo charge of terradons and temple guard. plus if the temple guard lose they have a stubborn ld8 re-rollable break test
either way terradons and sallies ftw
