So I like Ms. Hellebron, a lot. Honestly it's the S10 nonsense more than the nekkid chick on a big monster part - I run a fellblade in my eshin so I think there's just the BT with the ridiculously expensive S10 gift and that's about it for this elite club of overkill. But unless I'm missing something, she has no save, right? Is the only useful way to field the Crone on foot in a block of slavering loonies? And even past the no save, if you put her on the manticrutch you just end up with something a lot like the old BT, frenzied and gigantic, right?

Curious if anybody is contemplating her at all. I know IF I did dark elves it'd be to use her, and likely some hydras, for something like ...

L: Crone Hellebron - manticore = 550
H: Sorceress - 2 dispel scrolls = 150

C: 5 Dark Riders - xbows, musician = 117
C: 5 Dark Riders - xbows, musician = 117
C: 5 Dark Riders - xbows, musician = 117
C: 6 Harpies = 66

S: 14 Black Guard - full command, banner of ASF, crimson death = 277
S: 15 Black Guard - standard, musician, banner of fear = 256

R: Hydra = 175
R: Hydra = 175

Total: 2000 points

After looking through the DE book at the store tonight. Additionally, are there nasty BG builds going around? The ASF + crimson death seemed solid, not sure about what to give a second unit ...

i don't like the executioner units especially they don't have a frontage of 6. that one more guy will make a huge difference in combat and for keeping ranks etc. honestly i think you also need to pick up at least two units of crossbow troops with shields otherwise your losing out on great shooting that you could have.

Executioner units?

There are no executioners, only black guard...

Yeah ... though oddly enough I ended up dropping the black guard altogether to get executioners with a 6-wide frontage :S

Also, not wanting the always-taken xbow core (also ugly models in my mind) but I am contemplating swapping 1 hydra for 2 bolters. Not sure, as 2x hydras is nice and MEAN if the cauldron (in my other list) is around particularly, though thinking the CHEESE factor goes down if my list has only 3 terror causers rather than 4 ...

The Hydra for bolt thrower trade is really interesting. I'd go with the bolt throwers, but I can see both sides of it. I think the Bolt Throwers are needed with the proliferation of Daemon armies with Bloodthirsters/Kairos and Vampire Count armies with maniac vampires on Dragons.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

You say that like being a nekkid chick on a big monster doesn't bear any consideration....

I've considered putting her in a unit of Black Guard with the Banner of Hag Graef. Seems like the safest most reliable place for her. You do still have to worry about people baiting her out of the unit, but at least she can annihilate just about anything that baits her. Sticking her on a Manticore just seems like tempting fate to me, she's just too fragile up there.

Crone on a Manticore is just too many points with no save.
