I have been playing Dark Elves for some time now, can they still take the Cult of Slaanesh I did not see any mention of it in the new codex.

Nope. Storm of Chaos has been largely invalidated. The only exception I can think of is the Hellcannon.

EDIT: However, if your local group is okay with you using the Cult with the old DE book, that another story. But in tournaments, it's now illegal.

Yes Cult of Slaanesh is gone now. I do hope GW does another SoC style book once all the other army lists are brought up to 7h edition standards.

That would be nice, but by the time they get all the armies up to 7th edition, they'll be starting in on 8th.

If the WD article that was put out for the 25th anniversary is any indication I don't think they are going to jump right to 8th edition. They are very satisfied with how 7th is preforming and I do have to say I enjoy it more than any other edition I have played. If anything they will do a 7.5 release cleaning up the language and tweaking the rules rather than an overhaul.

That's all that 7th edition is - a cleanup. They didn't overhaul the system like they did between 5 and 6. From what I've seen, they really like the system as it stands and probably won't overhaul it for a ong time.

Additionally, many units would not be hard to roll into a "counts as" themed army. Devoted or daemonettes could stand in place of witch elves or corsairs. Spawn or steeds/fiends of Slaanesh can pull chariots. The hydra could easily reflect a Chaos critter with many tentacles, claws, whatever. Dark riders sans crossbows could be modeled with mounted daemonettes. Harpies? Winged daemonettes. Mounted characters could be modelled on Chaos steeds. The manticore could be any winged Chaos beastie. Just do the elves in purple, black, pink, pastels or other slaaneshi color, roll in a few Slaanesh icons as standards and you're ready to go!
