Nope. It took about two hours to put it together thanks to a very unhelpful video online where the expert doesn’t go through the steps per instructions , and no close ups and no details of how he got to certain steps. But I finally just took parts and put them where they look like they go. It’s running the demo print of a cartoon dog now. Takes about 5 or so hours. So I’ll have time between prints.

In other words, your not that lucky

I’ve been looking at a bunch and saved the stl files to a usb card since it said it had a usb Drive.....it has a usb-micro SD card drive, so I have to switch the ones I like over to a micro sd card after changing them from stl files to code in a slicer. Been playing with that earlier this week.

So test print is at 12% right now after 56minutes. It’s fun to watch it in action. Going to convert some files now to print tonight, even if I end this print early to do it.

Glad I bought a full roll 2.2lbs/1Kg of PLA as the kit came with a tiny length that they didn’t even bother to put on a spool.

Well, can’t say I’m having fun with the printer. The first print had an issue at the start, I’ve leveled the bed again and this newer print is looking good so far. I don’t have a computer per se, I have a chrome book, which makes slicing the STL codes into printable Gcodes more difficult, but not impossible.

In the mean time, I finished another member of my warband. One of the two archers.

Also finished another treasure token. Decided not to do the base rims in gold.

117YTD.

3.5 hours, first wargaming print is done, pretty decent quality, I’ll be able to prime and paint it no problem. Might be hard to tell what it is, but it’s a brick pillar for a fence that’s been knocked over (bad Ash is in a mood). Rough size is 4” x 1”

I have since taken a toothbrush to it to clear off the whispy strands. Closer detail, center of the photo is five layers of bricks still mortared together.

Hard to see details since the spool of PLA filament I got was silver.

Next piece is running now, going to bed soon.

Well, I started a print last night before I went to bed figuring it was a 7-8 hour print. When I checked it four hours later (sleeping problems are back), this is what I found.

Not sure if it was a clog or what, anyway I restarted it and went to work at church. 1:1 scale painting, just got home and it’s 4.5 hours in and just over 50% done. At least it hasn’t messed up yet.

Should look like these basement/cellar stairs.

Just looked neat and a “point of interest” worth. Besides I have tons of castle doors from Mantic Dungeon Saga to mess about with.

Well as they say “ I have a cunning plan”. Mainly it’s to build stuff for the Frostgrave table, but usable just about anywhere. The knocked down pillar was part of a set of graveyard fencing which could be used in a scenario for frostgrave around a mausoleum, or during regular table setup. So I’m about to start another print now for it.

Still refining the machine, and definitely releveling the bed after each print. This print is mostly fine. Lost part of one of the gate rods, easily fixed with some plasticard tubing.

Zombicide KS exclusive fig for scale, couldn’t find bad Ash, he must be off being not groovy.

Its also missing one of the connecting parts(downward arch of the top of the gate where it would attach to the hinge), so I’ll probably mount the side to the right with the pillar behind it and put the misshapen gate on the ground like it rusted or was broken off.

Little cleanup, but should look great.

Next piece is a four inch ish length of fence with a pillar at the end of it. We’ll see in the morning how it turned out.

It looks bad I agree. I’m going to try and adjust the PLA heat level down. I think it might be running just a little hot and that could be the cause of the whisps. Just at 98% when I snapped this picture, finished as I was typing. Five hours on the nose.

As I need more than one section of this fence I think I’ll do the temperature adjustment and reprint this now.

Well, a few flawed starts and now I’m trying other things. Meanwhile, I took the back of my hobby knife to the prints that were done and the flash came off with little trouble.

Printing a fountain now.

Boxing thugly is one of my favorite, although this guy may have just taken his place.

The crossbowman only known as Trigger joined the warband at the same time as Larcenous Red Robbing Hood. Though they say they don’t know each other the rest of the band has noticed that they both are wearing the grey cloaks of a religious order which was brutally wiped out a few years back. They also have been seen exchanging glances and nods and each seams to be watching the others back more than the rest of the warbands. What is to be made of this is uncertain, but neither one of them is known to be very forthcoming about where they are from or why they chose to adventure to Feldstat.

Sorry I’ve been a bit quiet. I played around with settings on the Ender 3 and messed something up. Ruined a few prints, walked away, ruined more. All seams to be going better now though as the current print is now sticking to the print bed unlike the last dozen or so, and the detail is so much cleaner. Sometimes you just need to break a few things to learn how to fix them I guess.

Your Frostgrave stuff is multiplying at an alarming rate. Have you managed to play yet?

Also, you're a very brave man for getting into 3D printing. Given how much unassembled and unpainted stuff I already have, I'd be afraid to add so much more. Also, I'm pretty sure my wife would kick me out of the house.

No games played , even with three trapped kids and a wife home with me 24/7 till the corona crisis is over, I can’t get anyone to play my games. My pile of shame is huge as well, but my wife said when this started I was going to need something to keep me mentally occupied, and a $200 investment (covered by my new job before I was furloughed) seamed like a good one. Well, even with a roll of filament which I’ve barely touched it’s still only $220 shipped. All the files I’ve printed are free downloads, the slicer program I’m using (astroprint.com using cura 3.6) is free as well.

The prints are taking a lot longer than I thought. There’s a few options to improve speed I haven’t tried yet, but getting buried is not really something to worry about at this time. The amount of space and money saved by me not buying supplies to scratchbuild my own stuff will easily pay for itself in a few months.

If I hadn’t bought this I was looking at buying a Proxxon foam cutting machine, and a bunch of jigs like the ones used on the Black Magic Craft YouTube page.

3a.m. Is a stupid time. My clock is all off because of being home all the time. I guess I’ll go check the printer, should be at about 10 hours right no work on this print. Results soon...ish.

Front of this design, one of the free Ulvheim ruins, right off the print bed 9hours 32 minutes.

And back side

Still lots of strings. More YouTube researchto be doneguess. Well, off to fix the flash on here and start a new print.

Okay so quick learning lesson. After I had started this print (the guy had designed about 10 in this series) I saw he wrote that he prints these with NO SUPPORTS and at a 5% infill. Supports are like the gates on resin models where there’s a peg to allow the resin to get to all the places and infill is actually the internal structure of the model itself, so all the space in between the exterior walls. At 5% there is a bunch of air inside the model. I did put on supports (extra material) and used 20% infill(standard on the cura settings). I think these are what might be causing some of the issues.

The supports have caused objects to appear and block the actual print. Some of these broke off with a quick toothbrush scrub. The supports have also filled all the mortar lines between the stones as they were helping to support the overhangs. These can be taking care of by Plat adhesion instead. So next time I will try and do a similar print without supports.

So in this picture you can see on the left of the screen where I have removed the supports from between the bricks and under the window casing. On the right side the tower under the window isn’t all support structure for the window ledge and the oozing mortar is all supports for the brick overhangs.

Basically I gave myself more work to do that I didn’t need to do . Keep learning.

Back to infill and supports. This next piece is printing with supports, as seen on the left, which will support a large overhanging structure. The right side which looks like a Belgian waffle is the ice bridge’s infill. I think I have it set at 15%, can’t remember right now. So it will be mainly hollow.

The supports will be snapped off and maybe be used for debris, I’ll have to see if I can use it for something.

6 hours and change later, the ice bridge is done.

Took less than five minutes to remove the supports, and probably half of that was me staring at the details on the print. Basically I just grabbed, squeezed and pulled and they snapped off with ease. A quick drag of a spatula (or mold line remover underneath to get the last bits and this is what we have.

Thanks guys, I’m pretty happy with the results I’m seeing on these so far.

@CB, you have to do something while the printer isn’t running. Might as well paint, though I’ve also been playing Sid Meier’s: Alpha Centauri on the old desktop. 20 year old video game is still pretty fun and kills hours.

Frosty Delivery today while the guy was here measuring the house for carpet.

All the Frostgrave stuff, minus magazine articles. Lots of reading to do now , I hope I like the game .

I have a building printing right now. 6”x 4” with minimal infill and no supports. It’s at 3 hours now and only to 5%..... painting will happen today at some time.

Looks like you’re having fun learning the new printer and software. All of these people getting printers is making me jealous. Thankfully I recognise I have nowhere near enough time to get it right. Instead I’ll have to enjoy watching your terrain develop. Good work keeping the painting going, I was half expecting you to grow your pile.
