Here is the start of my Red Corsairs army following the original fluff where the renegade Marines keep their original chapter colours but paint all Imperial insignia red...

Very nice. Some criticism on the Tiger Claws/Astral claws, try to thin out the stripes and make them come to a sharper point. When I was painting a similar scheme, I used a real tiger skin pattern. You've probably seen this before but for reference : http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Image:Tiger_Claws_1989.jpg

Hmm. The way I remember the Red Corsairs info, they painted red crosses or x's over the original imperial insignia.

Peredyne, it was never stated how the red was painted as far as I know, GW painted the red crosses for the 3rd or 4th edition Chaos codex. The Red Corsairs I am trying to do follow the fluff from the original Rogue Trader and still use the Imperial Marine codex as they are not truly Chaos (gives me an excuse to paint as many different chapters as I like...).

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

That's only from the more recent codexes. Originally they actually obliterated their original markings with red paint.

The red shoulder pad is exactly what I did for my corsairs, and IMO serves much better to tie the army together than just painting red crosses on them.

So, looking good so far. It's interesting to see some of the old RT-era camo schemes on modern models.

the red X's on the imperial insignia was just GW's idea of the RC's, nothing stated that they painted red X's on themselves, just says how they mutilated the imperial icons.
and i think the pads keep the theme of the army alot better.

Cheers for the comments! Not happy with the Executioner (looks to bland) so going to have another go at him later...
